  • One of the major differences of Korean residential building compared with other countries is a rigid diaphragm of a floor due to the panel heating system. An increment of a gravity floor load might cause vibration problem when the composite floor system is introduced to the panel heating system. Since the noise criteria of a residential building is lower than that of an office building, the development of a noise absorbing system should be preceded. The response evaluation was performed for the finished floor, that is with panel heating and noise absorbing system. The natural frequency was obtained both from an experimental study and an analytical study. An appropriate vibration condition of a floor with panel heating and noise absorbing systems was evaluated from this study.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate actual condition of the modern adaptation of interior elements (wall floor ceiling door & window) in traditional house. The examined objects were 316 pictures of residential interior spaces from the 5 different monthly magazines between Jan. 1993 to Dec. 1997 The results of this study were as follows; 1. Mostly they were either parital adaptation from the original or partially transformed adaptation rather than entire adaptation of the original 2. Of the traditional interior elements adapted in residential space only specific elements were being adapted. For example. partial adaptation from the original were oiled paper flooring(Jangpan) rice papered wall (Hanji) a ceiling finish that left the rafters and beams exposed (Yondunt-chonjang) and window or door frame which is vertical lattices accented with horizontal lattices grouped into three sections(Ttisal-mun)And partially transformed adaptation were wood flooring(Chang-maru) rice apered wall(Hanji) Yondung-chonjang wind or door frame of Wan character(Wanja-mum) 3. In regard to space the mostly adapted spaces were bedrooms rather than living or dining rooms.

  • Based on the detailed analysis of output characteristics of PV array and residential load usage pattern, a design method to calculate optimal battery capacity for stand-alone PV generation systems is proposed. And also, according to power flow Actual irradiation and temperature data are analyzed to compose a PV array simulator and also six representative home appliances are electrically modeled for load simulator, along with 24hours usage pattern. The surplus and insufficient power can be calculated from the proposed simulation platform, so that selection of an optimal battery capacity can be possible. The theoretical analysis and design process will be explained, along with informative simulation results.

  • Our country already came into the aging society in 2000, and it will reach the ultimate aging society in 2026. Also it is necessary the architectural proposal to serve the aging society problem. Recently days, it is increased that the aged welfare facilities, and the concern of aged welfare facilities. This study, approaching the charged aged man welfare facilities suggested as an alternative about the increase of aged man and the aged man problem in architectural and environmental aspect, investigated about the overall environment from the establishment of the charged welfare facilities to indoor space on the basis of the satisfaction degree and requiring condition of users through the estimation after residing. Thus this study is purposed to insist importance about analysis the aged welfare facilities and dwelling conscious.

  • This study presents experimental results on the shut-down and start-up characteristics of a residential split-system air-conditioner with capillary tube, using R410A as a R22 alternative refrigerant. During shut-down, the transient characteristics are evaluated by measuring the high side and low side pressures and temperatures of the system. The dynamic behavior of the system after start-up is also investigated at the high temperature cooling test condition. All experiments are performed in psychrometric calorimeter. The cooling capacity, power consumption, dehumidification capacity and cycle characteristics after start-up are analyzed.

  • Noise and vibration induced by subway operation is one of the major problem for the residents living nearby railway tracks. Many scientists and engineers have been working on proposing the more accurate prediction equation of noise and vibration to provide the better residential environment. Some predictiction equations were determined to compare the measurement value of a noise obtained from the inside of a residential area. It was observed that the condition of a soil type is one of the major parameter which should be considered to obtain the more accurate prediction value of a noise.

  • The objective of this study is to apply the modular furniture system, which has been developed actively in western Europe and America since 1970's, to Korean contemporary furniture having converted into western style gradually. The factors requiring the modular furniture system in today's residential environment are as follows; 1. Population increase and urbanization 2. Development of industrial technology 3. Improvement of living condition and change of life style. As these factors increase the problem of diminishing space, multiple functional modular furniture concept has become a solution. Reviewing the current scene of the western modular furniture system, it is classified into modular seating system, mopular wall system, modular commode system and modular storage system. Korean wardrobe, which is am mixed style of traditional and contemporary furniture, should change to a closet eventually because of the grand size and unpractical use of space. Since most Korean family, however, have wardrobes already, it will be necessary to have a turning period to systemized the closet space in Korean residential interior. For the turning period, application of the modular wall system would be one answer to substitute the wardrobe.

  • This is about experimental comparison study between convective heating and radiation heating system to use the design criteria for residential house. Experiment was done in EC(environment chamber) under simultaneous outdoor condition for 4 kinds of heating system such as CRHP(Ceiling Radiant Heating Panel), BEHC( Bottom Electric Heating Coil Mat), EFCU( Electric Fan Coil Unit) and CEHU( Convective Electric Heating Unit). Result show that CRHP ,which is radiation heating system, can consume more 23% energy than convective heating system when it is operated by dry bulb temperature but can save 1 ${\sim}$ 10% when operated by glove temperature and 27% when operated by MRT.

  • Recently, Smart Grid is a emerging topic in power and communication industry. Smart Grid refers to a evolution of the electricity supply infrastructure that monitors, protects, and intelligently optimize the operation of the interconnected elements including various type of generators, power grid, building/home automation system and end-use consumers. In order to successful implementation of Smart Grid, energy management function will be the key factor that coordinates and optimally controls the various loads according to the operating condition and environments, and the load patterns in residential and commercial building will be required as fundamental element for load management. In this study, we collects many types of energy usage data of electric appliances, analyze their load curves, and make the general load patterns for electrical appliance.

The data were collected by individual interview, consisting of a sample of 258 elders living in Chungbuk province. Of them, 244 elders were used for the analysis. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, Anova, Tobit anlysis using SAS program. The results were as follows: there were significant differences in the health expenditures of the elderly by income, age, level of education, residential area, level of health condition, type of marriage, illness. The factors influencing the health expenditures of the elderly were income, residential area, and illness.
