Recently, much attentions have been paid on the commercialization of PEMFC, especially for the applications of residential and portable. In order to achieve the early commercialization of PEMFC, thee are two hurdles to overcome. One is cost down and the other is improvement of durability of the system components. Numerous companies have tried to reduce the production cost and the main research topics have been changed from performance to durability improvement. In this work, acceleration test were performed to find and evaluate the main reason of degradation of the MEA(membrane-electrode assembly) which is one of the core component of the PEMFC system. Based upon the test results, a way to make durable MEA was suggested. Acceleration tests were made by applying high voltage of 1.2V to the several kinds of single cells to increase the growth of catalyst particles. Cell performance, ac-impedance and electrochemically active area measurements were made atfter every 8 hours of acceleration test. Degradations of catalyst and membrane were examined by SEM, TEM and XRD. Obtained results were discussed in terms of structural stability and loss of catalyt and ionomers in the electrode layer. In addition, the way to make highly durable MEA was suggested.
For commercialization of polymer electrolytemembrane fuel cell (PEMFC), durability of membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) has to be improved. Especially, long-term stability of MEA is one of the most important issues for frequent shut-down and start-up processes of PEMFC. The degradation of MEA could be attributed to chemical attack of hydrogen peroxide radicals that are formed at high cell voltages without any special treatment to remove residual hydrogen from anode gas channel after shut-down of the fuel cell. In this study, we investigated the long-term stability of MEA under different on/off operation conditions. Residential hydrogen gas was removed from the anode flow channel by purging air or nitrogen. Also, a dummy resistance was applied to the fuel cell to exhaust residential hydrogen at the anode. In these cases, MEA showed much more stable durability. Electrochemical characteristics of the fuel cell were measured byrepeating the on/off cycles with the hydrogen removal processes. Also, degradation of MEA components was examined by SEM, TEM and XRD analyses.

In order to overcome the limitations of the individual renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaic (PV) and solar-thermal and effectively realize zero energy buildings, the photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) technology is being proposed. The current PVT module was simply combined with a PV panel and a solar-thermal collector. Therefore, it was difficult to commercialize because the PVT module is heavy and has no significant advantages compared to applying the individual technology. In this study, an attached PVT module is proposed for the commercialization and securing competitiveness in the renewable energy market. The attached PVT module enables on-site work with a simplified manufacturing process and can significantly reduce the supply price of the product. Moreover, it can be easily applied on already installed the PV panels. This study aims to commercialize the attached PVT module, the basic data was established as follows: (1) latest technology related to PVT module, (2) Global trends of the PVT module market. The possibility of commercialization of the attached PVT module was reviewed based on the results of the latest technology and market trends analysis. The supply price of the attached PVT module is lower than the existing products and it is considered that there is a high possibility of commercialization and introduction market with the advantage such as utilizing the existing PV industry and market. Moreover, the attached PVT module can be produced simultaneously the thermal and electrical energy, and it can be presented as an innovative alternative that can respond to the energy demand for residential sector.

Second, there are technical services using artificial intelligence(AI) and robots. Robots based on advanced intelligence can serve as an assistant for the health and rehabilitation of senior citizens by supporting services that enable the daily lives of senior, checking their health conditions, and high-quality medical care. For the commercialization of these silver care systems, information and services appropriate to the current situation, such as the physical ability and health status of the elderly, should be provided, and it would be desirable to gradually expand the use of essential technology to reflect the needs of the elderly in use so that the digital alienated.
Fuel cell systems are a completely different form of electricity source that has been used so far and is an aggregation of multiple technologies with multidisciplinary features that can be operated safely only when gas and electrical safety are being considered. Since fuel cells generate through electrochemical reactions there are difficulties in ensuring electricity safety, power quality assessment, effective control and reliability standards for system faults using conventional inspection techniques and even though they are necessary as a primary means for reduction of CO2 owing to the Climate Convention, electrical safety assessment and measures are required for the prevention of faults in residential facilities. Although small-scaled distributed power supplies can be utilized as important means of peak control and energy management measures, research is required for observing the effects on the system and the development of inspection technology to ensure stable operation, and the electrical safety of residential fuel cell systems need to be assessed and the problems derived for establishing electrical safety standards. From the year 2002, Japan has established laws on technical safety standards and development and rules on the product specifications and standards for the industrialization of hydrogen fuel cells. Also, a lot of effort have been made for the commercialization of fuel cells by building one-stop certification services. Internationally, the IEC TC 105 has established international standards based on fuel cells. In order to protect the national interest, the country should be able to respond accordingly meet global standards. In fact, in Korea, to comply with the international trend, Korea Energy Management Corporation is establishing a certified agenda for fuel cells and Korean Agency for Technology and Standards is enacting technical standards for fuel cells. The current terms of fuel cells are that research has been focused more on the quality and performance of manufactured products rather than stable power operation and maintenance over time. In this paper, by considering the household fuel cell as a power device, the safety standards of the fuel cell system for a reliable operation with the existing power system is being proposed.
This paper studies development of a solar thermosyphon hot water system which is suitable to korean climate and life style, to save energy consumed for domestic water heating. The system consists of two flat plate collectors(or three flat plate collectors) connected in parallel and a storage tank of 300 liter capacity with heat exchanger and the optimum system was designed through the comparative measurements of five different storage tanks. The developed system manufactured with domestic materials were installed in residential buildings in seven cities(Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, Kwangju, Taejeon, Kangneung, Cheju) for demonstration and field test and results show possibility for commercialization.

In power system research fields, one of current key issues is the construction and commercialization of micro grid site which is called green island, carbon zero island, energy independent island, building micro grid, etc. and various affiliated technologies have been being vigorously developed to realize. In addition, various researches about electric vehicles (EVs) are in progress and it is expected to penetrate rapidly with the next a few years. Some new load models should be developed integrating with electric vehicle loads because the EVs' deployment could cause the change of load composition rate on power system planning and operations. EVs are also resources for micro grid as well as distributed generation and demand response so that various supply and demand side resources should be considered for micro grid researches. In this paper, the load composition rate of residential sectors is prospected considering the deployment of EVs and the resource configuration of micro grid is optimized based on net present cost. In the optimization, the load patten of case studies includes EV's charging characteristics and various cases are simulated comparing micro grid environment and normal condition. HOMER is used to compare various cases and economic effects.

Carlos Jimenez's 'House and Studio' was self-designed to fully function as both a home and workplace. Since its establishment in 1983, the installation has been continuously updated for almost 30 years solely under the guidance of the owner's life occurrences and routine needs. The additions and alterations succeeding the building's erection were executed to incorporate small yet symbolic fragments of the resident's memories and life episodes. The particularity of the 'House and Studio' can be compared with other residential remodeling and expansion projects in regards to certain key aspects. These means of comparison include, but are not limited to, building strictly under the direction of a master plan of development vs. allowing natural adaptations that comply with the resident's needs, rapid development vs. gradual advancement, the ornamenting by exposing showy features vs. the enhancing by addition of modest natural components, sustainability vs. sustenance, systematic room divisions vs. ambiguous spatial organization, possession as a materialized asset vs. preservation as a recollection of memories, and finally the recognition as one example of signature architecture vs. the witnessing of a maturing animated shelter. The given propositions can be further explained with the comprehension of Erich Fromm's theory of the 'Having' mode and 'Being' mode, two mechanisms that categorize the essence of human life. The 'Having' mode is described by the human greed for wealth, power, and influence, whereas the 'Being' mode is comprised of compassion, joy, and productivity. Fromm's thesis applies to the general sense of human life, but the ideas can be narrowed to accommodate the architectural standpoint. In architecture, the 'Having' mode can be translated to be the conspicuous form-oriented and self-contained object. The 'Being' mode, on the other hand, is transposed as the more natural form, incorporating the needs of the owner before commercialization. The growth of Jimenez's 'House and Studio' can be perceived as an architectural suggestion to the overcoming of human indifference caused by fixation on the 'Having' mode.

This study attempts to analyze the spatial clustering of survived and closed coffee shops based on the land price and land use for each coffee shop location. The locational characteristics of survived and closed coffee shops for each cluster type are identified through various locational properties such as transport factors (physical accessibility), shop properties (franchise information, newly open/closed business experience), and spatial density (kernel density estimation). To this end, we categorize the clusters of survived and closed coffee shops into three types (general locational distribution type, commercialization type of residential area and location type of commercial center), and then analyze their locational characteristics. As the result, we found that the locations of newly open and closed coffee shops show different distribution characteristics, even though they are classified into the same type due to the double sidedness of new open and closed locations. The results of this study can be provided as basic data for planning the location of coffee shop as well as regional commercial district.
