This paper presents a terminal-assisted frame-based packet reservation multiple access (TAF-PRMA) protocol, which optimizes random access control between heterogeneous traffic aiming at more efficient voice/data integrated services in dynamic reservation TDMA-based broadband access networks. In order to achieve a differentiated quality-of-service (QoS) guarantee for individual service plus maximal system resource utilization, TAF-PRMA independently controls the random access parameters such as the lengths of the access regions dedicated to respective service traffic and the corresponding permission probabilities, on a frame-by-frame basis. In addition, we have adopted a terminal-assisted random access mechanism where the voice terminal readjusts a global permission probability from the central controller in order to handle the 'fair access' issue resulting from distributed queuing problems inherent in the access network. Our extensive simulation results indicate that TAF-PRMA achieves significant improvements in terms of voice capacity, delay, and fairness over most of the existing medium access control (MAC) schemes for integrated services.

In this paper we focus on dynamic reservation slot allocation scheme for supporting QoS of a voice traffic in WATM MAC. Especially, voice traffic is the most important real-time object, and so we propose a new MAC protocol for voice traffic over WATM networks in the multimedia environment. According to the characteristics of voice traffic which is repeatedly in silent state and active state, new protocol allocates reservation slots dynamically with respect to the number of silent voice source of which starting time is stored to the state table in base station (BS). The simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance than slotted ALOHA in average access delay, collision rate, better than NC-PRMA(Non Collision Packet Reservation Multiple Access) in band width efficiency, and can provide a certain level of QoS requirement by the given slot assignment even though the number of voice terminals is increased.

In this paper, we propose a wireless MAC protocol named APRMA, which is capable of supporting the ABR type data service and maximizing channel utilization. In PRMA protocol, data terminals with random data packets cannot reserve slot. That is, slot reservation is applicable to the time constraint voice packet exclusively. But the reservation scheme has to be performed for loss sensitive data packet, and so data packets can get their quality of service. Therefore, in wireless MAC, reservation technique has to be used for both voice and data services. But in service aspects, if a fixed bandwidth is allocated to data terminals, time constraint voice packets may have a low efficiency. So in this study, the terminal which wants to request for ABR tyupe service, acquires a minimum bandwidth from system for thefirst time. If the system has extra available bandwidth, ABR terminals would acquire additional bandwidth slot by slot. As a result, APRMA protocol cansupporty the data service with loss sensitivity and maintain their channel utilization high. Also high priority services like voice can be satisfied with their QoS by APRMA.

In this paper, we analyzed the DRMA(Dynamic Reservation Multiple Access) protocol with Rayleigh fading, shadowing, and capture effect for the Broadband fireless Access System. We consider the TDMA-based protocols, since these are based on the standard for IEEE 802.16 WMAN, IEEE 802.20 MBWA, and ETSI HIPERLAN//2. The results of analytical model will be apply the development of collision resolution algorithm, scheduling algorithm and the dynamic change of system parameters.

One of the important issues of in this research is effective usage of energy to increase life time of nodes which form a network. Existing LEEM protocol causes unnecessary active time due to small packets with shorter transfer time than active interval period of node and packets with transfer time of more than twice of active interval period of node. In this paper, we propose Energy-Efficient MAC by Reservation (EEMR) protocol which can increase energy effectiveness in wireless sensor network environment by reducing unnecessary active time using a method that reserves next-hop depend upon the size of packet. We evaluated effectiveness of our proposed method through experiments. The result showed that using EEMR protocol had better energy effectiveness than existing LEEM protocol by 15%.

In a multi-channel network based of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology, an efficient protocol is needed in order for the transmitter and receiver to be tuned to the same wavelength during message transmission time. This paper proposes a priority-based reservation protocol that can efficiently support variable-length messages that require different QoS requirements. In this proposed protocol, high-priority nodes can reserve the data channel before low-priority nodes. However, once a node reserves a data channel successfully, it can persistently use the reserved channel till message transmission is finished regardless of the priority of the node. Moreover, the protocol can operate independently of the number of nodes, and any new node can join the network anytime without requiring network re-initialization. The protocol is analyzed with a finite population model and the throughput-delay characteristics are investigated as performance measures.

In this paper, for the WiMedia Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB. performance degradation due to the Distributed Reservation Protocol (DRP) conflict problem caused by devices' mobility is analyzed. And a DRP relay protocol and a DRP conflict resolution (CR) are proposed to overcome the performance degradation at DRP conflicts. In order to give the loser device at DRP conflicts a chance to maintain resources, the proposed DRP relay protocol executed at each device helps the loser device reserve an indirect link maintaining the required resources via a relay node. Simulation results considering the mobile environment have indicated that the DRP relay combined with the CR prevent the throughput decrease even though mobility of devices increases.

In this paper, we classified the wavelength reservation mechanisms of optical burst switching (OBS), and investigated the path length priority effect of the offset time/delayed reservation (OT/DR)-based scheme like the just-enough-time (JET) protocol. And, we showed that the fiber delay line (FDL)-based scheme can avoid the path length priority effect in multiple hop network environments. Also, we proposed a novel FDL/DR with hop-by-hop priority increasing (HPI) scheme which can improve the end-to-end throughput by increasing the priority of bursts hop-by-hop using the input FDLs at each node. The simulation results showed that the proposed FDL/DR with HPI scheme could avoid the path length priority effect and enhance the end-to-end throughput in multiple hop network environments.

In this paper, we investigate the existing medium access control (MAC) protocols to integrate the voice and data services in packet-based CDMA networks and furthermore, propose a new approach to circumvent the operational limits inherent in them. We propose the $P^2R$-CDMA (Prioritized Packet Reservation Code Division Multiple Access) protocol for the uplink in the synchronous multi-code CDMA system, which employs the centralized frame-based slot reservation along with the dynamic slot assignment in the base station using the QoS-oriented dynamic priority of individual terminal. The simulation results show that, as compared with the existing scheme based on the adaptive permission probability control (APC), the proposed approach can significantly improve the system capacity while guaranteeing the real-time requirement of voice service.
