  • Metaverse is a three-dimensional virtual space where virtual and reality interact and co-evolutionize, and social, cultural, and economic activities are carried out in it to create value. Among the types of metaverse, the virtual world metaverse is expected to bring innovation beyond time and space in all areas of industry and society following the Internet. This study empirically analyzed factors affecting consumer's intention to use the virtual world metaverse by an innovation diffusion perspective. It was analyzed as an expanded technology acceptance model by setting relative advantages, ease of use, and visibility among the attributes of the innovation diffusion, and social presence, telepresence, and interactivity among the characteristics of the virtual worlds as factors. The proposed research model and hypothesis were verified through a PLS structural equation analysis based on a survey of 216 people. Studies have shown that relative advantage, telepresence, and interactivity have a significant effect on perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment, but visibility does not have a significant effect on perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment. It was found that ease of use had a positive effect on perceived enjoyment, social presence had a positive effect on perceived usefulness, and perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment had a positive effect on the intention to use, respectively. This study is meaningful in that it empirically analyzed the factors affecting the intention to use the virtual world metaverse by dividing the psychological characteristics that induce consumer behavior into perceived usefulness which is an extrinsic motivation and perceived enjoyment which is an intrinsic motivation.

  • The Directional sign system in Korean high speed railway stations has a lot of problems. For an example, It lacks of consistency in the shape or allocation. Also, the signs do not match with the actual directions sometimes. Last but not least, the view is blocked by the other signs such as advertisement or other barriers. We suggested the methods to standardize the sign systems that include visibility, accuracy, consistency, and simplicity. First, we categorized signs into directional signs, locational signs, and infomational signs. Then, we examined the actual high speed railway stations in Korea to learn the real situation. Finally, we suggested the methods to standardize the sign systems considering the factors that are visibility, accuracy, consistency, and simplicity.

  • More than 42 000 fires occur nationwide and cause over 2500 casualties every year. There is a lack of specialized equipment, and rescue operations are conducted with a minimal number of apparatuses. Through-the-wall radars (TTWRs) can improve the rescue efficiency, particularly under limited visibility due to smoke, walls, and collapsed debris. To overcome detection challenges and maintain a small-form factor, a TTWR system-on-chip (SoC) and its architecture have been proposed. Additive reception based on coherent clocks and reconfigurability can fulfill the TTWR demands. A clock-based single-chip infrared radar transceiver with embedded control logic is implemented using a 130-nm complementary metal oxide semiconductor. Clock signals drive the radar operation. Signal-to-noise ratio enhancements are achieved using the repetitive coherent clock schemes. The hand-held prototype radar that uses the TTWR SoC operates in real time, allowing seamless data capture, processing, and display of the target information. The prototype is tested under various pseudo-disaster conditions. The test standards and methods, developed along with the system, are also presented.

  • In order to investigate the impacts of heat wave on human health, cluster analysis of meteorological elements (e.g., temperature, dewpoint, sea level pressure, visibility, cloud amount, and wind components) for identifying offensive synoptic air masses is employed. Meteorological data at Seoul during the past 30 years are used. The daily death data at Seoul are also employed. Occurrence frequency of heat waves which is defined by daily maximum temperature greater than the threshold temperature (i.e., $31.2^{\circ}C$) was analyzed. The result shows that the frequency and duration of heat waves at Seoul are increasing during the past 30 years. In addition, the increasing trend of the frequency and duration clearly appears in late spring and early autumn as well as summer. Factor analysis shows that 65.1% of the total variance can be explained by 4 components which are linearly independent. Eight clusters (or synoptic air masses) were classified and found to be optimal for representing the summertime air masses at Seoul, Korea. The results exhibit that cluster-mean values of meteorological variables of an offensive air mass (or cluster) are closely correlated with the observed and standardized deaths.

  • The diffuse attenuation coefficient for down-welling irradiance ($K_d$) is an important parameter for ocean studies including remote sensing applications. For the vast ocean, ocean color remote sensing is the only possible means to get the fine-scale measurements of $K_d$. To develop a technique of estimating $K_d$ from remotely sensed data, the following underwater optical parameters (absorption coefficient (a), attenuation coefficient (c), scattering coefficient (b), diffuse attenuation coefficient ($K_d$), etc.) have been studied. For this research we conducted the field campaign around the Yellow Sea at $8{\sim}9$ June, 2006. We obtained a set of underwater optical parameter data: down-welling irradiance ($E_d$), up-welling irradiance ($E_u$) and up-welling radiance ($L_u$) using TriOS optical sensors and a, c coefficient using Spectral Absorption and Attenuation Meter (AC-S). We then derived $K_d$ values from $E_d$ for each depth.

  • In a single frequency network (SFN) for Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital television (DTV) system, the interferences induced by the multiple transmitters and/or repeaters using the same frequency are inevitable. Since the presence of interferences results in performance degradation of the SFN, it is crucial to manipulate the interferences by adjusting the transmit power and timing of each transmitter and repeater. In the ATSC terrestrial DTV system, in order to facilitate the interference manipulation process, a transmitter identification (TxID) signal which is uniquely embedded in the signal to be transmitted from each transmitter and repeater is recommended. Even though the injection level of the TxID signal is much lower than the DTV signal, the TxID signal injection infects the DTV signal. Hence, the effect of the TxID signal on the DTV signal must be investigated before deployment. In this paper, the effect of the TxID signal on the performance of legacy DTV receivers under additive white Gaussian noise and multipath channel environments is investigated not only with computer simulation but also with laboratory and field tests. The test results show that the average threshold of visibility degradation of the legacy DTV receivers due to the TxID signal injection is less than 0.2 dB at the TxID injection level of -30 dB.

  • The Lunar orbiter is expected to be inserted into a ~300km low Earth orbit using Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II(KSLV-II). After the states are successfully determined with obtained tracking data, the Trans Lunar Injection(TLI) burn has to be done at appropriate epoch to send the lunar orbiter to the Moon. In this study, we describe in detail the mission scenario of the Korean lunar orbiter from the launch at NARO Space Center to lunar orbit insertion(LOI) stage following direct transfer trajectory. We investigate the launch window including launch azimuth, delta-V profile according to TLI and LOI burn positions. We also depict the visibility conditions of ground stations and solar eclipse duration to understand the characteristics of the direct transfer trajectory. This paper can be also helpful not only for overall understanding of ${\Delta}V$ trend by changing TOF and coasting time but for selecting launch epoch and control parameters to decrease fuel consumption.

  • This paper presents and analyzes laboratory test results of distributed translator (DTxR) for distributed frequency network (DFN) in the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) terrestrial digital TV broadcasting system. The DTxR laboratory test is classified to receiving part test and transmitting part test. The receiving part test includes dynamic range, random noise, single echo, and adjacent channel interference. The transmitting part test includes quality of output signal (out-of channel emission, quality of transmitting signal, and phase noise), frequency synchronization among output signals, and TxID (Transmitter Identification) signal's affect to the legacy receiver. By the laboratory test results, the receiving part of DTxR eliminates average -2.5 dB of single echo and has average 17.5 dB at TOV (Threshold of Visibility) under random noise environment. In addition, the transmitting part of DTxR satisfies the specification of US FCC (Federal Communications Commission), and frequency difference among DTxR output signals is less than 0.001 Hz.

  • Purpose: In this study, the luminance measurement analysis results of the smoke generation state are considered for visual signal display light color for real-time escape guidance in the underground common area. Method: We will analyze the scattering characteristics of light in the atmosphere and optical technology based on the visibility theory, and try to classify the elemental technology as a guidance function through a prototype of a visual signal display device for evacuation guidance. Result: In the experiment conducted under the smoke-generating condition, the results were derived with low luminance ratio and good visibility in the order of red, green, and yellow. However, this result is different from general lighting in which color rendering is considered, and is limited to signals for signals and detection. Conclusion: A conclusions were drawn by reflecting both the luminance measurement results in the smoke generation situation and the preference survey results conducted in previous studies for the light color of the visual signal for signal and detection. When events such as smoke occur, it is better to use the escape guidance visual signal in red or green.
