  • Location-based service is an important spatiotemporal database application area that provides the location-aware information of wireless terminals via positioning devices such as GPS. With the rapid advances of wireless communication systems, the requirement of mobile application areas including traffic, mobile commerce and supply chaining management became the center of attention for various research issues in spatiotemporal databases. In this paper we present the A-Quadtree, an efficient indexing method for answering location-based queries where the movement vector information (e.g., speed and velocity) is not presented. We implement the A-Quadtree with an index structure for object identifiers as a.Net component to apply the component to multiplatforms. We present our approach and describe the performance evaluation through various experiments. In our experiments, we compare the performance with previous approaches and show the enhanced efficiency of our method.

  • Background: As personalized healthcare industry has attracted much attention, big data analysis of healthcare data is essential. Lots of healthcare data such as product labeling, biomedical literature and social media data are unstructured, extracting meaningful information from the unstructured text data are becoming important. In particular, text mining for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) reports is able to provide signal information to predict and detect adverse drug reactions. There has been no study on text analysis of expert opinion on Korea Adverse Event Reporting System (KAERS) databases in Korea. Methods: Expert opinion text of KAERS database provided by Korea Institute of Drug Safety & Risk Management (KIDS-KD) are analyzed. To understand the whole text, word frequency analysis are performed, and to look for important keywords from the text TF-IDF weight analysis are performed. Also, related keywords with the important keywords are presented by calculating correlation coefficient. Results: Among total 90,522 reports, 120 insulin ADR report and 858 tramadol ADR report were analyzed. The ADRs such as dizziness, headache, vomiting, dyspepsia, and shock were ranked in order in the insulin data, while the ADR symptoms such as vomiting, 어지러움, dizziness, dyspepsia and constipation were ranked in order in the tramadol data as the most frequently used keywords. Conclusion: Using text mining of the expert opinion in KIDS-KD, frequently mentioned ADRs and medications are easily recovered. Text mining in ADRs research is able to play an important role in detecting signal information and prediction of ADRs.

  • Recently, Internet based Electronic Commerce is recognized as one of the alternatives for strengthening sales power of small and medium companies. However, small and medium manufacturers can't adjust properly to the new environment because they are in short of money, personnel, and technology. To cope with this problem, this paper deals with the development of virtual manufacturing agent to support sales agent. The sales activity of most of parts manufacturing companies is based on orders of buyers. The process of promotion, receipt and selection of orders of the parts manufacturing is closely coupled with the load status of the production lines. On deciding whether to accept an order or not, as well as negotiating with buyers, sales person needs information such as load and schedule of production lines, manufacturability of the order. Therefore, the functions of virtual manufacturing agents manufacturability analysis, process planning, and scheduling are key features in developing an agent of sales activity for the parts manufacturing business. While most of research on virtual manufacturing system so far is focused on the simulation of each product, this paper deals with the development of agent assisting internet-based product sales by supporting production information promptly. The pilot system of virtual manufacturing agent is implemented using KQML-based agent template and Java-based expert system shell for a small molding company.

  • Variable Message Signs have been used for providing information on the current traffic conditions. However, it is considered more important to achieve optimal traffic allocation among the alternative routes by strategic VMS information provision. Fuzzy control is very effective and efficient to deal with such systems that are too complex and uncertain to build mathematical models. In this paper, a fuzzy feedback controller for VMS is proposed, whose goal is to achieve the travel time equilibrium between the two alternative routes. The performance of the suggested controller is implemented and examined using MATLAB/Simulink. More robust controller applicable to a real highway network is suggested for the further research.

  • Recent technological advances in wireless networks and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) have led to the development of different types of mini-UAVs and their utilizations in various ways. This study endeavors to develop a low-cost mini-UAV with autonomous flight capability, in order to obtain geospatial information of a small or medium-sized area, and also assess its flight stability by comparing the predetermined flight paths against the actual flight paths. Based on a post-development flight test, stable flight has been proven achievable as follows: the maximum endurance speed is 1 hour, the flying distance is 50km, the horizontal accuracy of flight paths is about ${\pm}6{\sim}8m$, and the altitude accuracy is about ${\pm}8m$. Therefore, it is deemed that high-resolution images which can be utilized for geospatial information are obtainable. This indicates that a UAV flying at an altitude of 200m can acquire images across a $2km{\times}3km$ area on the ground within 25 minutes, which validates its high usability for obtaining high-solution images at low altitudes in the future.

  • In this paper proposed the sensor fusion algorithm between a gyroscope and an accelerometer to maintain the inverted posture with two wheels which can make the robot body move to the desired destination. Mobile inverted robot fall down to the forward or reverse direction to converge to the stable point. Therefore, precise information of tilt angles and quick posture control by using the information are necessary to maintain the inverted posture, hence this paper proposed the sensor fusion algorithm between a gyroscope to obtain the angular velocity and a accelerometer to compensate for the gyroscope. Kalman Filter is normally used for the algorithm and numerous research is progressing at the moment. However, a high-performing DSP and systems are needed for the algorithm. This paper realized the robot control method which is much simpler but able to get desired performance by using the sensor fusion algorithm and PID control.

  • Based on the internet-based infrastructures such as various information devices, social network systems and cloud computing environments, distributed and sharable data are growing explosively. Recently, as a data analysis and mining technique for extracting, analyzing and classifying the inherent and useful knowledge and information, Formal Concept Analysis on binary or many-valued data has been successfully applied in many diverse fields. However, in formal concept analysis, there has been little research conducted on analyzing interval data whose attributes have some interval values. In this paper, we propose a new approach for classification of interval data based on the formal concept analysis. We present the development of a supporting tool(iFCA) that provides the proposed approach for the binarization of interval data table, concept extraction and construction of concept hierarchies. Finally, with some experiments over real-world data sets, we demonstrate that our approach provides some useful and effective ways for analyzing and mining interval data.
