This study was conducted to provide the basic policy information for establishing efficient forest-road networks. Synthetic forest-road networks that consist of main and spur roads and forest-road networks with only main road (hereafter called "main-road network") were planned for the five forest-road experimental districts of Korea Forest Service in this study. Road density of the synthetic forest-road networks was calculated and compared with the road density of the main-road networks. The results showed that the optimum road density of the synthetic forest-road networks was 10.1~15.9 m/ha, and the road density of the main-road networks was 8.4~12.4 m/ha. The construction cost of the synthetic forest-road networks was estimated about 1~8% lower than the main-road networks, while the road density was 20~30% greater than the main-road networks. As timber volume and hauling cost increased, the optimum road density of the synthetic forest-road networks increased, within which the road density of highstandard main road rapidly increased. On the other hand, the spur road density increased with slope gradient.
In this research, forest cover distribution change, forest volume and carbon stock in Yongin-city, Gyeonggi procince were estimated focused on the forest of Yongin-City using forest type map and HyTAG model in relation to climate change. Present forest volume of Yongin-city was estimated using the data from $5^{th}$ Forest Type Map and Korean National Forest Inventory (NFI). And for the future 100 years potential forest distribution by 10-year interval were estimated using HyTAG model. Forest volume was also calculated using algebraic differences form of the growth model. According to the $5^{th}$ Forest Type Map, present needleleaf forest occupied 37.8% and broadleaf forest 62.2% of forest area. And the forest cover distribution after 30 years would be changed to 0.13% of needleleaf forest and 99.97% of broadleaf forest. Finally, 60 years later, whole forest of Yongin-city would be covered by broad-leaf forest. Also the current forest carbon stocks was measured 1,773,862 tC(56.79 tC/ha) and future carbon stocks after 50 years was predicted to 4,432,351 tC(141.90 tC/ha) by HyTAG model. The carbon stocks after 100 years later was 6,884,063 tC (220.40 tC/ha). According to the HyTAG model prediction, Pinus koraiensis, Larix kaempferi, Pinus rigida, and Pinus densiflora are not suitable to the future climate of 10-year, 30-year, 30-year, and 50-year later respectively. All Quercus spp. was predicted to be suitable to the future climate.

This study used the results of the 2022 national survey of forest welfare facilities and space users conducted in the Republic of Korea to identify the associations and combination patterns among use of forest welfare facilities and various user characteristics. In addition, a correspondence analysis-namely, a categorical data analysis-was performed regarding four facilities: National Natural Recreation Forest, National Soopchewon, National Forest Trail, and National Healing Forest. The cross-analysis revealed highly significant differences (p < .001) in the age, household income per month, means of transportation, companion type, path to information acquisition, and purpose of visit among the users of forest welfare facilities. Moreover, the results of the correspondence analysis demonstrated that users of National Soopchewon and National Healing Forest were distinguished from users of the other forest welfare facilities based on demographic characteristics such as age and household income per month. In addition, the means of transportation of National Forest Trail users differed from that of users of the other forest welfare facilities. Moreover, users of National Soopchewon were associated with the type of public group visit, acquisition of information from the websites of related institutions and facilities and via online portals, and the purpose of participating in education and experiencing education programs. Therefore, the companion type, path to information acquisition, and purpose of visit on the part of users of National Soopchewon could be differentiated from those of users of other forest welfare facilities. The findings of this study revealed the associations and combinations among forest welfare facilities and the characteristics of users of such facilities, with the scope of utilization of the forest welfare facility user data being expanded via correspondence analysis.

Research was conducted in a minirotation plantation with four different planting densities at Tatae-ri, Chongwoon-myon, Yangpyong-gun, Kyonggi-do, to investigate the relation between volume and biomass production. Nine-year-old Alnus hirsuta var. sibirica analyzed to determine volume yield and weight equations for aboveground parts. The results suggest that the most suitable harvesting or thinning period at highly dense plots, more than 6,000 trees per hectare, is five years after planting, and the most fitted regression equation model for estimating aboveground biomass or total tree biomass is $logY=b_0+b_1logd^2h$.

This study aims to make the stand density management diagram which is useful for establishing stand density management system in Chamaecyparis obtusa forest. By using 216 sample plots to estimate Yield-Density relationship ($R^2=0.743$), the stand density management diagram was modeled by the estimated parameters. As a result of this diagram, after planting 3,000 trees per hectare the mortality rate of this unthinned C. obtusa stands over 80 years was estimated to be equal to $12.0{\sim}18.1trees{\cdot}ha^{-1}{\cdot}year^{-1}$, and stand volume was $463.1{\sim}695.4m^3{\cdot}ha^{-1}$, and stand density was $1,555{\sim}2,038trees{\cdot}ha^{-1}$. Developed stand density management diagram for C. obtusa is effective to establish the management criteria and production objective. Therefore, this study allowed us to make the optimal forest working plan.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of parasititoids on the density-fluctuation of the pine needle gall midge, Thecodiplosis japonensis. The density of T. japonensis and its parasitoids was observed by emergence trap in pine forest in Namsung-dong, Keumho-eup, Youngcheon-shi, Kyeongsangbuk-do, Korea, from 1986 to 2005. After 1987, density fluctuations of adults pine needle gall midge and its parasitoids showed similar trends and density of parasitoids was dependent on density of host population. Sex ratio of the pine needle gall midge, T. japonensis, was female-biased and had some variations in according to years. These trends were similar to those of parasitoid populations and sex ratio of Inostemma seoulis was more female-biased than that of I. matsutama. T. japonensis adults emerged in the field from May 16 to July 27 and the peak of emergence was between late May and early June. The adults of Inostemma matsutama emerged from May 16 to June 11 (peak between late May and early June), whereas those of Inostemma seoulis emerged from June 9 to July 27 (peak: late June).

The study was conducted to determine the effects of forest restoration methods and stand structure on solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, soil temperature, and soil water content, based on volume, in forest stand after forest fire. The changes of the micro-climate elements in naturally and artificially restored forest after forest fire were measured in Goseong and Samcheok, Gangwon province. Pinus spp. were commonly appeared in ridges, barren lands or planted areas of the study sites while the other areas were dominated by Quercus spp. In the early stage, trees in the naturally regenerated site grow better than the trees in artificially rehabilitated site. However, the growth ratio rapidly decreased by time passed in natural regeneration area. The environmental conditions (solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, soil temperature and soil water content) were significantly different by the regions and the methods (p<.05). However, the coefficients of variations of the environmental conditions were not significantly different at 95% confidence level. As the coverage and tree height in crown layer increased, the relative humidity and soil water content were increased while the temperature and solar radiation were decreased. Especially, the relative humidity, solar radiation, and soil water content were clearly affected by the tree height and coverage ratio ($R^2$ means from 0.628 to 0.924). Even though the data should have collected at least more than 5 years in meteorological analysis, the two year results show some clear relationship between forest structure and microclimate elements.
Pinus pumila, which occurs in the northeast Asia, is found limitedly in Daecheongbong area of Mt. Seorak in the South Korea. This population was chosen to study spatial pattern, genetic diversity and spatial genetic structure. There were 48 polymorphic and 30 monomorphic I-SSR markers. A total of 65 individuals which distributed in the study site (40 m ${\times}$ 70 m) showed weakly aggregate distribution (Aggregate Index = 0.871). A total of 40 genets were observed from 65 individuals through I-SSR genotype comparison. Proportion of distinguishable genotype (G/N), genotype diversity (D) and genotype evenness (E) were 61.5%, 0.977 and 0.909, respectively. In spite of the small number and the limited distribution, Shannon's diversity index (I = 0.567) was relatively high as compared with those of other plant species. Spatial autocorrelation using Tanimoto's distance showed that the genetic patch was established within 12 m. Based on Mantel tests, there was relatively low correlation between genetic distance and geographic distance. Therefore, it seems the P. pumila population was formed by many parent trees in early stage. For ex situ genetic conservation of P. pumila, the sampling strategy is efficient at least above 12 m between individual trees.

Since the late 2000s, a serious Entomosporium leaf spot disease, caused by Entomosporium mespili, has been found frequently on leaves of Eriobotrya japonica and Photinia glabra at a nursery station in Goheung and Jeju, respectively. Studies were conducted to select fungicides that would effectively control Entomosporium leaf spot. Among the three fungicides tested, weekly foliar applications of propiconazole and chlorothalonil effectively reduced disease severity on E. japonica and P. glabra showing control value of 64.1% and 87.6%, respectively. Weekly treatments of thiopanate methyl were less effective. Propiconazole controlled the disease, but, it was phytotoxic to P. glabra.
