  • Blind equalization of transmission channel is important in communication areas and signal processing applications because it does not need training sequences, nor dose it require a priori channel information. In this paper, an adaptive blind MMSE channel equalization technique based on second-order statistics in investigated. We present an adaptive blind MMSE channel equalization using multichannel linear prediction error method for estimating cross-correlation vector. They can be implemented as RLS or LMS algorithms to recursively update the cross-correlation vector. Once cross-correlation vector is available, it can be used for MMSE channel equalization. Unlike many known subspace methods, our proposed algorithms do not require channel order estimation. Therefore, our algorithms are robust to channel order mismatch. Performance of our algorithms and comparisons with existing algorithms are shown for real measured digital microwave channel.

  • Multivariate control charts are widely used to monitor the performance of a multivariate process over time to maintain control of the process. Although existing multivariate control charts provide control limits to monitor the process and detect any extraordinary events, it is a challenge to identify the causes of an out-of-control alarm when the number of process variables is large. Several fault identification methods have been developed to address this issue. However, these methods require a normality assumption of the process data. In the present study, we propose a bootstrapped-based $T^2$ decomposition technique that does not require any distributional assumption. A simulation study was conducted to examine the properties of the proposed fault identification method under various scenarios and compare it with the existing parametric $T^2$ decomposition method. The simulation results showed that the proposed method produced better results than the existing one, especially in nonnormal situations.

  • Main sources of increased vibrations and air noise on ship are main and auxiliary engines and ship ducts. The various ways of transfer of vibration energy and air noise in passenger cabin of a vessel require, in general case, of various methods of attenuation. The transfer of vibration energy from engines through a support requires, alongside with shock-absorbers, availability active shock-absorbers. The transfer of vibration energy and hydrodynamic noise on ship ducts requires availability, alongside with flexible muffler, active mufflers. The availability of air noise from working equipment can require, along with absorbent covers, of space systems of active noise control. In the given article it is spoken about the unified approach to formation of the block-diagram of active noise and vibration control. The complex approach permits to receive additional efficiency in reduction of noise in passenger cabin of vessels.

  • This paper deals with the lifetime prediction of Aircraft Flaperon Joint made of AISI 4130 steel. Reviews are performed on the published damage models at first. And three different damage models are used for predicting the fatigue life of the structure subjected to variable amplitude fatigue loading. These models require no increase in complexity of use, nor do they require additional material property or mission loading information to achieve the improved accuracy. Finally a comparison among the fatigue results is performed. It is observed that the Miner's rule could predict longer life than other cumulative damage models which take into account loads below the endurance limit.

  • This paper explores new techniques that are based on a hidden-layer linear transformation for fast speaker adaptation used in deep neural networks (DNNs). Conventional methods using affine transformations are ineffective because they require a relatively large number of parameters to perform. Meanwhile, methods that employ singular-value decomposition (SVD) are utilized because they are effective at reducing adaptive parameters. However, a matrix decomposition is computationally expensive when using online services. We propose the use of an extended diagonal linear transformation method to minimize adaptation parameters without SVD to increase the performance level for tasks that require smaller degrees of adaptation. In Korean large vocabulary continuous speech recognition (LVCSR) tasks, the proposed method shows significant improvements with error-reduction rates of 8.4% and 17.1% in five and 50 conversational sentence adaptations, respectively. Compared with the adaptation methods using SVD, there is an increased recognition performance with fewer parameters.

  • We consider the D2D sum utility maximization in the cellular system. D2D links reuse the uplink resource of cellular system. This reuse may cause severe interference to cellular users. To protect the cellular users, interference limit from the D2D links is required. In this setting, D2D sum utility maximization problem is investigated. Each D2D link has limited transmit power budget. Because optimum solution may require global information between links and computational complexity, we propose the distributed algorithm which only require the local information from each D2D link and simple broadcasting. Simulation results are provided to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Tunnelling in urban environments is very common nowadays as large cities are expanding and transportation demands require the use of the underground space for creating extra capacity. Inevitably, any such new construction may have significant effects on existing nearby infrastructure and therefore relevant assessment of structural integrity and soil-structure interaction is required. Foundation piles can be rather sensitive to nearby tunnel construction and therefore their response needs to be evaluated carefully. Although detailed three-dimensional continuum finite element analysis can provide a wealth of information about this behaviour of piles, such analyses are generally very computationally demanding and may require a number of material and other model parameters to be properly calibrated. Therefore, relevant simplified approaches are used to provide a practical way for such an assessment. This paper presents a simple method where the pile is modelled with beam finite elements, pile-soil interaction is modelled with soil springs and tunnelling-induced displacements are introduced as an input boundary condition at the end of the soil springs. The performance of this approach is assessed through some examples of applications.

  • Data deduplication technology improves data storage efficiency while storing and managing large amounts of data. It reduces storage requirements by determining whether replicated data is being added to storage and omitting these uploads. Data deduplication technologies require data confidentiality and integrity when applied to cloud storage environments, and they require a variety of security measures, such as encryption. However, because the source data cannot be transformed, common encryption techniques generally cannot be applied at the same time as data deduplication. Various studies have been conducted to solve this problem. This white paper describes the basic environment for data deduplication technology. It also analyzes and compares multiple proposed technologies to address security threats.

  • Calcific tendinitis is the leading cause of shoulder pain. Among patients with calcific tendinitis, 2.7%-20% are asymptomatic, and 35%-45% of patients whose calcific deposits are inadvertently discovered develop shoulder pain. If symptoms are present, complications such as decreased range of motion of the shoulder joint should be minimized while managing pain. Patients with acute calcific tendinitis respond well to conservative treatment and rarely require surgery. In contrast, patients with chronic calcific tendinitis often do not respond to conservative treatment and do require surgery. Clinical improvement takes time, even after surgical treatment. This review article summarizes the processes related to the diagnosis and treatment of calcific tendinitis with the aim of helping clinicians choose appropriate treatment options for their patients.

  • Local school buildings are critical facilities that can provide shelter in disasters such as earthquakes, so they must be more resistant to seismic forces than other structures. In this study, a sensitivity analysis was conducted to determine which columns-as the most critical members in a reinforced concrete building-most urgently require seismic retrofitting. The sensitivity analysis was conducted using an optimization technique with the location of each column as a parameter. A numerical model was developed to simulate a realistic collapse mode through a three-dimensional dynamic analysis. Based on numerical analysis results, it was found that the columns positioned in the lower floors, such as the first floor and in the outer part of a building, urgently require retrofitting. For reinforcement of the RC columns, which has been proven for its performance in previous research, was applied. Through this study, the importance of appropriate retrofitting is demonstrated. Further, a method for determining the appropriate location for retrofitting-when retrofitting is not possible on the entire structure-is presented.
