Korea's elevator industry is one of the world's eighth-largest industrial sectors and the third largest in the world by new installations. This year, the number of elevators has exceeded 700,000, and the number of new installations is 30,000-40,000 every year. However, the news of elevator-related accidents is reported continuously through the media and the accident rate is not decreasing. In particular, among the recent accidents related to elevators, accidents related to elevator workers are increasing, causing social problems. This year, the National Assembly's Environmental Labor Relations Commission's National Auditors lost five lives a year and 12 elevator workers were killed in fall and stenosis accidents during the installation, maintenance and replacement of the elevators for about two years since 2018. It took place to adopt the representatives of four domestic elevator companies as witnesses. An elevator worker is a collective term for workers involved in the design, manufacturing, installation, replacement, maintenance, inspection, management, and supervision related to the elevator industry, and the related accidents are called elevator worker accidents. Analysis of elevator-related accidents in the past has shown that the fault of the user accounted for 70% of the total, and the fault of the worker accounted for about 2.5%, and the accident occurred to the user or the user due to carelessness of the worker during the lift-related work. Currently, elevator-related accidents are reported by the Korea Elevator Safety Agency under Article 48 of the Elevator Safety Management Act under the Ministry of Interior and Safety. If deemed necessary for the prevention and prevention of recurrence of an elevator accident, the cause and condition of the elevator accident may be investigated. However, the current draft law is limited only to elevators after installation inspection, and is separated from the Ministry of Employment and Labor's data on accidents occurring in the manufacturing and installation stages related to the elevator industry. This study analyzes the recent safety accidents of elevator workers and prepares safety measures to prevent them through the risk analysis, and also draws out the problems and improvements of the current elevator worker accident investigation to find the elevator worker accident rate that is on the increase trend.
Background: Replacement drivers represent a significant portion of platform labor in the Republic of Korea, often facing night shifts and the demands of emotional labor. Research on replacement drivers is limited due to their widespread nature. This study examined the levels of presenteeism and absenteeism among replacement drivers in comparison to those of paid male workers in the Republic of Korea. Methods: This study collected data for replacement drivers and used data from the 6th Korean Working Conditions Survey for paid male workers over the age of 20 years. Propensity score matching was performed to balance the differences between paid workers and replacement drivers. Multivariable logistic regression was used to estimate the adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals for presenteeism and absenteeism by replacement drivers. Stratified analysis was conducted for age groups, educational levels, income levels, and working hours. The analysis was adjusted for variables including age, education, income, working hours, working days per week, and working duration. Results: Among the 1,417 participants, the prevalence of presenteeism and absenteeism among replacement drivers was 53.6% (n = 210) and 51.3% (n = 201), respectively. The association of presenteeism and absenteeism (adjusted OR [95% CI] = 8.42 [6.36-11.16] and 20.80 [95% CI = 14.60-29.62], respectively) with replacement drivers being significant, with a prominent association among the young age group, high educational, and medium income levels. Conclusion: The results demonstrated that replacement drivers were more significantly associated with presenteeism and absenteeism than paid workers. Further studies are necessary to establish a strategy to decrease the risk factors among replacement drivers.
This paper evaluated the amount of radiation generated by wedge filters during radiation therapy using a high-energy linear accelerator, and the dose to the worker during wedge replacement. After 10-MV photon beam was irradiated with wedge filter, the wedge was removed from the linear accelerator, and the dose rate and energy spectrum were measured. The initial measurement was approximately 1 uSv/h, and the radiation level was reduced to 0.3 uSv/h after 6 min. The effective half-life derived from the dose rate measurement was approximately 3.5 min, and the influence of AI-28 was about 53%. From the energy spectrum measurements, a peak of 1,799 keV was measured for AI-28, while the peak for Co-58 was not measured in the control room. The peaks for Au-106 and Cd-105 were found only measurement was done without wedge removement from the linear accelerator. The additional doses received by the radiation worker during wedge replacement were estimated to be 0.08-0.4 mSv per year.

Nowadays, the power quality issue becomes very important in the electric distribution system. Especially, when a distribution transformer is replaced, the customers who are supplied electricity from the transformer feel inconvenience due to electric outage. Therefore, an advanced method for the distribution transformer replacement without outage is strongly required. The conventional method is the primary-secondary high voltage bypass method according to the transformer utilization factor and the field condition. But it is inconvenient and has some problems such as breakdown and security troubles of the workers according to the unauthorized and temporary work. Therefore, the new scheme for the replacement with uninterruptable power supply is demanded. This paper proposes the new replacement method using the phase converter. The proposed method can reduces the process of replacement work and also ensures worker's safety. Therefore, the method is reasonable in comparison with the conventional method. The proposed method is able to contribute the national economy growth and elevate the convenience of national life by uninterruptable power supply.

This study investigated to determine the microbial contamination levels of strawberries at harvest and distribution stages and to suggest a control measure for reducing the microbial contamination of strawberries by replacing worker's gloves used at harvest and distribution stages. According to the monitoring results, the contamination levels of total aerobic bacteria (TAB) were in the order of soil ($7.12{\pm}0.61{\log}_{10}CFU/g$), gloves ($6.06{\pm}1.80{\log}_{10}CFU/cm^2$), strawberry ($3.28{\times}0.98{\log}_{10}CFU/g$), and water ($3.08{\pm}0.55{\log}_{10}CFU/g$) at harvest stage. TAB of strawberry at was harvest stage reduced from $3.28{\pm}0.98{\log}_{10}CFU/g$ to $1.85{\pm}0.21{\log}_{10}CFU/g$ and $2.6{\pm}0.30{\log}_{10}CFU/g$ at cold and room temperature storage, respectively. By the replacement of worker's gloves and distribution temperature, TAB levels of the strawberries were significantly reduced when compared to those of the strawberries treated without replacement of worker's gloves and distributed at room temperature. For reusing the replaced gloves, washing with a commercial disinfectant, clorox, was effective to reduce microorganisms contaminated on the worker's gloves. These results demonstrated that appropriate replacement of gloves at the harvest and distribution stages is an effective method for reducing microbial contamination of fresh strawberries.
The radiological safety of the spent resin treatment facility with a14C treatment capacity of 1 ton/day was evaluated in terms of the external and internal exposure of worker according to operation scenario. In terms of external dose, the annual dose for close work for 1 h/day at a distance of more than 1 m (19.8 mSv) satisfied the annual dose limit. For 8 h of close work per day, the annual dose exceeded the dose limit. For remote work of 2000 h/year, the annual dose was 14.4 mSv. Lead shielding was considered to reduce exposure dose, and the highest annual dose during close work for 1 h/day corresponded to 6.75 mSv. For close work of 2000 h/year and lead thickness exceeding 1.5 cm, the highest value of annual dose was derived as 13.2 mSv. In terms of internal exposure, the initial year dose was estimated to be 1.14E+03 mSv when conservatively 100% of the nuclides were assumed to leak. The allowable outflow rate was derived as 7.77E-02% and 2.00E-01% for the average limit of 20 mSv and the maximum limit of 50 mSv, respectively, where the annual replacement of the worker was required for 50 mSv.
It takes lots of time and labor if a worker have to measure the water quality at a certain but designated time every day in an un-automated aqua farm. In addition, if the equipment is soaked in the sea water consistently, it will be contaminated by diverse floating matters and barnacles, and it often becomes mal-functional within 2~3 months. Therefore, we need to develop a system with which the sensed data could be checked in real time and operated automatically, while preventing the contamination of the sensor, a crucial component for water quality measuring equipment, as much as possible, and increasing the replacement cycle. We have developed a non-cleaning water quality measuring equipment and its software which are used in the fishery household of offshore aqua farms. By providing the workers with a mobile application which has a function of monitoring the water quality in real time, they can check the situation directly without going to the fishery household.
The permanent disability benefit(PDB) system whose purpose lies in helping affected workers with their self-realization through compensating them for their work-related injury or disease and facilitating their timely return to work is very important in terms of social welfare. Actually, the portions of PDB's in all WCI expenditures have been on the sharp increase. In spite of its positive aspects like this, however, an excessive amount of PDB's may have negative impacts on the affected workers' will to work or return to work, and increasing trends in the amount of PDB's payable in annuity will remain in an aging or aged society a potentially risky factor posing a threat to the soundness of WCI budgets. In this respect, the author attempted herein to identify the long-term reality of trends in the number of claimants entitled to PDB's and the amount of PDB's payable to them through making the long-term budget projections of PDB's; address problems with PDB's payable in annuity, which are or will potentially be one of the gravest burdens in securing the soundness of WCI budgets; and discuss how to optimize the amount of PDB's through studying & analyzing overseas cases and income replacement rates and what kinds of improvements are thinkable. It's recommended to reduce the absolute amount of benefits payable in annuity in a phased way considering claimants' life-cycle instead of sticking to the current system, which takes the form of lifelong pension plan.
This study was carried out to idedtify Worker's general health diagnosis and specific health diagnosis state and provide the basic data about occupational health nursing services in Kyung Sang Nam Do. Data was obtained from 36 industry in Chang-won, Jin-joo, Geo-jeoi, Chung-moo area during Dec. 20. 1992-Feb. 18. 1993 through questionaire survey. Data was analyzed into frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation and score sum The main findings are as follows : 1) 83.3% of subject was manufactures. The factory which have over 1000 Worker's are 41.7% and 500-999 are 36.1%. 2) Health managers are composed of 5 man power. Doctors occupied in 44.4% of factories, average age of them are 43.9 years, average careers are 4.0 years. Nurses occupied in all factories and their average ages are 27.6, average careers are 3.0 years. Industrial hygienist occupied in 33.3% of factories, environmental hygienist occupied 69.4% of industries, and nurse aids occupied in 19.4%. 3) 99.9% of workers are received general health diagonosis. And 10.8% of workers are received elaborate health diagnosis. Among them 30.9% are C class and 23.4% are D class. Among D class, 50% of workers are treated as work time shortening, work replacement, being under treatment. Total specific health diagnosis' subject are 19.3% of workers but 79.9% of them are received specific health diagnosis. Among them 18.6% are needed follow up treatement. Only 44.9% of them are received follow up treatement. 4) 69.4% of industries have their referral hospital and 97.2% have their clinics. Among Occupational health services, health diagnosis are carried out first. of all and the next, environmental management, industrial diagnosis, health education are carried out.

The widespread adoption of aluminum slab formwork in modern construction, evident in both domestic and international projects, offers numerous advantages. However, a critical challenge persists regarding the dismantling process for these slabs. The current industry standard involves dropping the slabs to the ground floor upon removal. This practice raises several concerns, notably the generation of significant noise pollution that disrupts nearby communities. More importantly, the risk of worker injuries due to falls from height during the dismantling process is a serious safety hazard. Additionally, the impact from dropping the slabs can damage the aluminum itself, leading to increased replacement costs. These drawbacks necessitate the exploration of alternative dismantling techniques that prioritize worker safety, material sustainability, and overall process efficiency. Accordingly, in this study, when the entire first-generation slab formwork of an apartment house is simultaneously lowered to a reachable position for workers, it is then disassembled and lifted for transport to the next floor. This approach has the potential to demonstrate improvements in safety, quality, economy, and process efficiency.
