The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the treatment outcome of proximal tibial graft. Thirty-nine patients were grafted with proximal tibia for the repair of maxillofacial defect. Complications can be considered incidental and neglectable clinical significance. It is concluded that the proximal tibial metaphysis offers a promising alternative sources of cancellous bone for the repair of maxillofacial defect.

Between January of 1980 and December of 1989, we are encountered 121 cases of Down syndrome here at Yonsei University Medical Center. of these being endocardial cushion defect, ventricular septal defect, tetralogy of Fallot, atrial septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus and complicated anomalies. The mean age was 1 month 2 years with the sexual division at 31 males and 29 females. Among these 60 patients, 10 of them were treated trough surgical management, 8 of them being open heart surgeries, the 8 open heart surgeries are broken down as follow: 4 total correction of ECD, 2 patch repair of VSD, 1 total correction of TOF, 1 patch repair of ASD secundum. Another 2 operative management are ligation of PDA and modified Blalock - Taussig shunt of TOF. Postoperatively all patients were weaned and extubated on an artificial ventilator without any respiratory complications, and were discharged without incident.

A cracking failure of a austenitic stainless steel elbow in a naphtha cracking line in a petrochenmical plant occurred, resulting in leakage of organic compound flowing inside the elbow. Due to the failure, emergency shutdown of the plant was enforced to repair the troubled part of the line. The repair cost as well as production loss during the unscheduled plant shutdown has cost the company a great amount of financial loss. In this studies, a failure analysis of the cracked elbow was performed using NDT, chemical analysis, microstructural analysis including optical microscopy as well as scanning electron microscopy with EPMA, mechanical testings such as tensile testing, hardness testing and Charphy impact test fractography. The results indicated that several problems such as a welding defect and presence of a detrimental phase which was found to be relate to improper postforming heat treatment process was identified and the failure was concluded to be due to a low temperature embrittlement of the defect-containing elbows.

Although outcomes of neonatal cardiac surgery have dramatically improved in the last two decades, low body weight still constitutes an important risk factor for morbidity and mortality. In particular, cardiac surgery in neonateswith very low birth weight (${\leq}$1.5 kg) is carried out with greater risk because most organ systems are immature. We report here on a successful case of early one-stage total repair of coarctation of the aorta and a ventricular septal defect in a 1,480 gram neonate.

Confirmation of a damage degree and repair about a damage part are very hard for an underwater structure. And quality control of a construction is very complicated even if repair work is carried out on a damaged structure because repair work is carried out in water. If repair work is carried out while a defect part of the structure which there is in water keeps dry state, a efficient of repair is maximized. However, as for the repair technology about an underwater structure, a systematic researcher is not enough because of the environmental trouble. And, as for the effect about repair method to be applied to a currently underwater structure, it is not certainly proved. In this study The repair work of an underwater structure damaged applied the method that used a fiber panel form work. And a efficient of structure repaired was evaluated.

We at Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center experienced simultaneous repair of pectus excavatum and secundum atrial septal defect We used resection deformed perichondrium, raising sternum at right angle to secure good operative field for open heart surgery. Mechanical ventilation was applied which could be weaned on postoperative 2 hours. The hospital course was uneventful without any other sequale. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 6.

TTD1BI cells are non-hypersensitive to UV irradiation and perform normal genome repair of pyrimidine dimers but fail to excise 6-4 photoproducts and, concomitantly, are unable to restore RNA synthesis levels following UV irradiation. This pointed to a detect in gene-specific repair and this study was undertaken to examine repair of 6-4 photoproducts at the gene-level. The results indicated a defect in gene-specific repair of 6-4 photoproducts in active genes, although strand-specificity of 6-4 photoproduct removal was essentially similar to that of normal cells. These findings indicate that the near normal UV resistance of TTD1BI cells may be due to the inability of these cells to remove DNA lesions preferentially, as well as to the cells opting out of the cell cycle to repair damage before resuming replication.

A 62 year old female, who had suffered from severe pulmonary and cardiac failure with postinfarction VSD [NYHA class IV], underwent successful concomittant patch closure of ventricular septal defect and coronary artery bypass for obstructed first diagonal branch. The operation was performed electively 4 weeks after occurrence of the postinfarction VSD.

Ventricular septal defect[VSD] associated with aortic regurgitation[AR] represents 2 to 7.5% of all VSD which is most common congenital heart disease. The aortic valve may by normal in infants with VSD, but the aortic regurgitation may be developed in these patients later. The aortic valve became fibrotic, thickened, deformed and prolapsed, so these late deformities require to be corrected with plication, valvuloplasty or aortic valve replacement [AVR]. There are some controversy between the early repair of VSD alone and the late repair of VSD and aortic valve till now. From December 1971 to August 1983, we had experienced 24 patients of VSD associated with AR which constitute 6.5% of our total patients with VSD. The VSD was subpulmoary [type I] in 14[58.3%], subcristal [type II] in 8[33.3%], atrioventricular canal type[type III] in 1, and combine of type I and II in 1. Patch repair of VSD was made in 15 patients and direct suture of small VSD in 9.14 patients had aortic plication of valvuloplasty and 9 had AVR accompanying VSD repair, and 1 patient had VSD closure alone. The postoperative courses of these patients were uneventful except in some cases. A patient who was undertaken AVR with Starr-Edwards ball valve and VSD closure, died due to left ventricular failure and low cardiac output syndrome. Follow up shows, in 14 patients with aortic plication or valvuloplasty, AR was developed in 9. In 9 AVR, there were two later complications which were paravalvular leakage in one and re-AVR due to subacute bacterial endocarditis in another.
