Advances in medical technology has enabled better management of complicated and chronic wounds. Negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is a novel dressing technique that uses negative pressure to drain exudates and blood from wounds. NPWT increases local blood flow and promotes reduction of edema and wound healing and is suitable for a variety of wounds. It is associated with few adverse effects and shows excellent efficacy and cost-effectiveness. NPWT promotes rapid growth of granulation tissue and wound contraction; thus, it is more advantageous than general dressings as it reduces the size skin of grafts or flaps required for repair, and patients with chronic wounds can be treated as outpatients. We investigated the general usage and mechanism of NPWT, its clinical applications and adverse effects.
The reinforced concrete (RC) structures usually suffer large residual displacements under strong motions. The large residual displacements may substantially reduce the anti-seismic capacity of structures during the aftershock and increase the difficulty and cost of structural repair after an earthquake. To reduce the adverse residual displacement, several self-centering energy dissipation braces (SCEBs) have been proposed to be installed to the RC structures. To investigate the seismic responses of the RC structures with SCEBs under the earthquake excitation, an extended Bouc-Wen model with degradation and self-centering effects is developed in this study. The extended model realized by MATLAB/Simulink program is able to capture the hysteretic characteristics of the RC structures with SCEBs, such as the energy dissipation and the degradation, especially the self-centering effect. The predicted hysteretic behavior of the RC structures with SCEBs based on the extended model, which used the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) for parameter identification, is compared with the experimental results. Comparison results show that the predicted hysteretic curves can be in good agreement with the experimental results. The nonlinear dynamic analyses using the extended model are then carried out to explore the seismic performance of the RC structures with SCEBs. The analysis results demonstrate that the SCEB can effectively reduce the residual displacements of the RC structures, but slightly increase the acceleration.

Recently, the production process system is largely composed automatic system using the wired network. The production process system using wired network has disadvantages that take place expense when the installed and inspected production of equipment was replaced. The each equipment happens to repair cost for control and management in production processes. In this paper, the industrial equipment that applied for IEEE 802.15.4(ZigBee) technology solves a complicated space at the plant. And then when the industrial equipments replace wired network with wireless network, this paper studied its user interface.
A 1.7-ton grade small excavator is a construction equipment that can perform various functions in limited spaces where heavy equipment cannot enter easily. Owing to the recent acceleration of urbanization, it has been used increasingly in drainage and gas pipes, as well as for road repair works in urban areas. The power train of a traveling reducer for a 1.7-ton grade small excavator utilizes a complex planetary gear system. Complex planetary gears are vital to the power train of a traveling reducer as it mitigates the fatigue strength problem. In the present study, the specifications of a complex planetary gear train are calculated; furthermore, the gear bending and compressive stresses of the complex planetary gears are analyzed to achieve an optimal design of the latter in terms of cost and reliability. In this study, the actual gear bending and compressive stresses of a planetary gear system are analyzed using a self-developed gear design program based on the Lewes and Hertz equation. Subsequently, the calculated specifications of the complex planetary gears are verified by evaluating the results with the data of allowable bending and compressive stress based on curves of stress vs. number of cycles of the gears.

Recently, the size of tiles used for bathroom walls in apartment houses is gradually increasing in size. The problem is that when these large-sized tiles are attached by the sticking method, due to the nature of the method, there is a concern about the stability of the attachment to the part (pupil) where the tile and the adhesive are not attached. The problem is serious as it leads to lawsuits in the outbreak court. In addition, it is urgent to verify the adhesion stability of the sticking method because secondary damage occurs due to a safety accident caused by the falling of the tile. Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport [Investigation of defects in apartment houses, calculation of repair cost and defect determination criteria] ① The tile adhesion strength is 0.39N/mm2 or more and ② It is specified to fill 80% or more of the base area of the tile backside, but this is currently trendy. It is considered that large-sized tiles need to be verified from multiple angles, and as part of that, we intend to verify the adhesion stability according to the area to be attached to large-sized tiles.

Composite materials are effective in forming externally bonded reinforcements which find applications related to existing structures repair, attributed to their high strength-to-weight ratio and ease of installation. Among various composites, fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) have somewhat been largely accepted as a commonly utilized composite for such purposes. It is only recently that steel fibres have been considered as additional members of the FRP fibre family, intuitively termed as steel reinforced polymer (SRP). Owing to its low cost and permissibility of fibre bending at sharp corners, SRP is rapidly becoming a viable contender to other FRP systems. This paper investigates the bond behaviour of SRP-concrete joints with different bonded lengths (50, 75, 100, 150 and 300 mm) and widths (15, 30, 40, 50, and 75 mm) using single-lap shear tests. The experimental specimens contain SRP strips with a fixed density of steel fibres (0.472 cords/mm) bonded to the face of concrete prisms. The load responses were obtained and compared in terms of corresponding load and slip boundaries of the constant region and the peak loads. The failure modes of SRP composites are discussed, and the range of effective bonded length is evaluated herein. In the end, a new analytical model was proposed to estimate the SRP-concrete bond strength using a genetic algorithm, which outperforms 22 existing FRP-concrete bond strength models.

The air transport industry is experiencing unprecedented fluctuations in aviation demand through the Covid-19 pandemic, and is more focused than ever on maintaining and generating business profitability. During the pandemic, demand for air cargo has soared, and the conversion business from passenger aircrafts to freighters(P2F) is drawing attention as a new business in the aviation maintenance industry. This study derives important factors to be considered in order to successfully carry out the P2F project through a wide range of cases and related literature, and analyzes the relative importance of each factor using the analytic hierarchy process. Through a survey of 33 aviation maintenance experts with more than 20 years of field experience, the importance of main factors and their sub factors was determined and implications were drawn. As a primary result, in order to succeed in the P2F project, the main factors were identified in the order of skill, finance, and location. The most important sub factors for each main factors were identified in order of securing airframe modification skill, securing infrastructure construction cost, and creating P2F business complex and district. The quantified success factors suggested the critical direction for the successful development of Korea's P2F business, and presented viable and specific business strategies and implementation plans for each factors.

Retentions are generally considered to be intended to act as a powerful tool to incentivize contractors/subcontractors to remedy defective work in cases of non-performance. This study attempts to establish the extent to which retentions can be used for this purpose by investigating case law connected with insurance and defective work. One of the significant questions is whether retentions are sufficient to deal with construction defects or value of retentions in the rectification of defects is illusory. The cost to repair a defect may vary depending on a number of components including type, cause, magnitude and the construction stage at which the defect occurs. It is expected that a review of existing cases on defective workmanship will provide an insight on the issues and whether retentions are effective in their intended function. In order to establish their functionality, the study described in this paper investigated 6 construction insurance cases to identify the critical issues and the causes of dispute. It was found that the nature and the cause of defects were different in each case. It was also established that certain defect types not covered by insurance may be covered by retentions - potentially one of the key uses of a retention strategy. It is expected that the findings will assist in forming a view on the quantum of money that may be required paving the way for a first time understanding on a rational basis for setting up retention regime.

This study developed a high strength and performance concrete pavement material with low shrinkage and reflection of sunlight. Based on the literature review, a new mix-design of applying flash ash to improve the strength and performance of the concrete as well as to reduce the dry shrinkage is suggested. In addition, adding black pigment to reduce the reflection and technique of applying OAG (Optimized Aggregate Gradation) is also included. The result of the laboratory experiment indicates that the brightness and the reflection, which depends on the ratio of black pigment addition, did not deviate from the normal range. When OAG is considered for the mix-design, the strength and performance of the concrete improved greatly. In addition, the mix-design using fly ash reduced the dry shrinkage of concrete and improved the resistance to the permeation of chloride ion. Furthermore, the mix-design, which uses fly ash (25% replacement) and black pigment (3% addition) with the application of OAG, is found to be the most effective mix to reduce the shrinkage and reflection as well as improving the strength and performance of the concrete. The result of an economic analysis indicates that the initial construction cost of this proposed mix is more expensive than that of normal concrete pavement material. However, it can be more economic in the long run because the normal concrete pavement material is likely to cost more due to higher probability of maintenance and repair and higher social cost due to traffic accident, etc.
This study is aimed at identifying the national economic value of the irrigation facilities by reviewing the existing papers on economic values of the irrigation facilities and presenting current status of dual O & M problems of the irrigation facilities. This study suggested the unified O & M system rather than continuing the existing dual O & M system of irrigation facilities based on the surveyed results of the activities of irrigation fraternities in Chungnam Province. The findings and proposals for the successful unified and mono O & M system of the irrigation facilities are as follows: (1) Total number of irrigation facilities in the nation accounts for 67,582, while the total length of irrigation and drainage canals amounted to about 174,259km. On account of the total length of structural canals was estimated at 31%, much losses of water and much O & M costs have been inevitable for the full irrigation rice culture. In spite of the past heavy investment for irrigation facilities, the ratio of rain-fed and partially irrigated paddy fields accounts for 23% in 2003. Both Korea Agricultural and Rural Infrastructure Corporation (KARICO) and the city and Gun Governments have managed the irrigation facilities separately by irrigation fraternities. The KARICO have commanded 59% of irrigation paddy area with 18% of the total irrigation facilities, while the city and Gun governments covered 41% of irrigation paddy area with 82% of the existing number of irrigation facilities representing small and medium scale. (2) The 1999 demand prices of irrigation water per ton expressed in 2000 constant market price was estimated at 388 won, the supply price was amounted to 184 won per ton. Considering the supply and demand curve of the irrigation water, the existing irrigation facilities could not satisfy the demand of irrigation water. (3) In 1999, total present added value of the irrigation facilities during the economic life accounted for 48 trillion won, while total supply cost was 44.7 trillion won. The marginal benefit and cost ratio of irrigation water was 1.08. (4) The total O & M cost per year amounting to 681.1 billion won have been required to maintain and repair the existing irrigation facilities in Korea. For the successful unified O & M of irrigation facilities covering whole irrigated paddy field in Korea, 950 billion won of O & M costs are required to keep up the marginal benefit of irrigation water as 2,800 billion won per year. The total O & M cost as 950 billion won should be allocated 40%, 380 billion won for O & M costs of irrigation facilities and 60%, 570 billion won for improvement of irrigation facilities. (5) The study investigated and reviewed the present O & M status of the irrigation facilities by small and medium irrigation fraternities. Most of the farmers belong to the irrigation fraternities preferred not only unified O & M but also KARICO take-over of the whole O & M activities of the irrigation facilities. The prevailing O & M cost per 10a expended by the Corporation was amounted to 104,890 won, while that of city and Gun governments was only amounted to 4,600 won per 10a. regarding the small amount of O & M cost expended by city and Gun governments, it is evident that the existing irrigation system have been managed ineffectively and deteriorated the facilities comparing that of KARICO. In conclusion, the Government could not satisfied the demand of irrigation water by suppling water with existing irrigation facilities. Therefore new additional investment and financial support for irrigation water development should be made to convert rain-fed and partially irrigated paddy fields into fully irrigated ones. The operation and maintenance cost should be supported to keep the marginal values of rice production of existing irrigation facilities in the national economy and to modernize the obsolete irrigation facilities. By unifying the existing dual O & M systems, all the farmers belong to the irrigated paddy fields have to be equally benefited and could be increased their farm income and be stabilized their rural lives.
