Recently, the share of wind power in energy markets has sharply increased with the active development of renewable energy internationally. In particular, large-scale wind farms are being developed far from the coast to make use of abundant wind resources and to reduce noise pollution. In addition to the electromagnetic interference (EMI) caused by offshore wind farms to coastal or air surveillance radars, it is necessary to investigate the EMI on global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) communications between ship and coastal stations. For this purpose, this study investigates whether the transmitted field of MF/HF band from a ship would be subject to interference or attenuation below the threshold at a coastal receiver. First, using geographic information system digital maps and 3D CAD models of wind turbines, the area of interest is electromagnetically modeled with patch models. Although high frequency analysis methods like Physical Optics are appropriate to analyze wide areas compared to its wavelength, the high frequency analysis method is first verified with an accurate low frequency analysis method by simplifying the surrounding area and turbines. As a result, the received wave power is almost the same regardless of whether the wind farms are located between ships and coastal stations. From this result, although wind turbines are large structures, the size is only a few wavelengths, so it does not interfere with the electric field of MF/HF distress communications.

The future energy consumption pattern will show a very different pattern from the present due to the increase of distributed power sources such as renewable energy and the birth of the concept of prosumers, etc. Accordingly, it can be predicted that the direction of establishment of an appropriate production and supply plan considering the stability and consumption efficiency of the entire power grid will also be different from now. This paper proposes a simulation model that can test a new operational strategy when faced with a number of possible future environments. Through the proposed model, it is possible to simulate and analyze power consumed and supplied in a future Smart Grid environment, in which a large amount of new concepts including energy storage service (ESS) and distributed energy resources (DER) will be added. In particular, it is possible to model complex systems structurally by using DEVS formalism among the ABM (Agent-Based Model) methodologies that can model decision-making for each agent existing in the grid, and several factors can be easily added to the grid. The simulation model was verified using given dataset in the current situation, and scenario analysis was performed by simply adding an ESS, one of the main elements of the smart grid, to the model.

There has been an increasing number of studies on photovoltaic energy generation system in an offshore site with the largest energy generation efficiency, as increasing the researches and developments of renewable energies for use of offshore space and resources to replace existing fossil fuels and resolve environmental challenges. For installation and operation of floating photovoltaic systems in an offshore site with harsher environmental conditions, a stiffness of structural members comprising the total system must be reinforced to inland water spaces as dams, reservoirs etc., which have relatively weak condition. However, there are various limitations for the reinforcement of structural stiffness of the system, including producible size, total mass of the system, economic efficiency, etc. Thus, in this study, a floating breakwater is considered for reducing wave loads on the system and minimizing the reinforcement of the structural members. Wave reduction performances of floating breakwaters are evaluated, considering size and distance to the system. The wave loads on the system are evaluated using the higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM), considering the multi-body effect of buoys. Stresses on structural members are assessed by coupled analyses using the finite element method (FEM), considering the wave loads and hydrodynamic characteristics. As the maximum stresses on each of the cases are reviewed and compared, the effect of floating breakwater for floating photovoltaic system is checked, and it is confirmed that the size of breakwater has a significant effect on structural responses of the system.

The perovskite solar cell is an active part of research in renewable energy fields such as solar energy, wind, hydroelectric power, marine energy, bioenergy, and hydrogen energy to replace fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas, which will gradually disappear as power demand increases due to the increase in use of the Internet of Things and Virtual environments due to the 4th industrial revolution. The perovskite solar cell is a solar cell device using an organic-inorganic hybrid material having a perovskite structure, and has advantages of replacing existing silicon solar cells with high efficiency, low cost solutions, and low temperature processes. In order to optimize the light absorption layer thin film predicted by the existing empirical method, reliability must be verified through device characteristics evaluation. However, since it costs a lot to evaluate the characteristics of the light-absorbing layer thin film device, the number of tests is limited. In order to solve this problem, the development and applicability of a clear and valid model using machine learning or artificial intelligence model as an auxiliary means for optimizing the light absorption layer thin film are considered infinite. In this study, to estimate the light absorption layer thin-film optimization of perovskite solar cells, the regression models of the support vector machine's linear kernel, R.B.F kernel, polynomial kernel, and sigmoid kernel were compared to verify the accuracy difference for each kernel function.

This paper proposes a fuel cell education framework installed on a Metaverse environment, which is to reduce the burden of education costs and improve the effect of education or learning. This Meta-Fuel cell platform utilizes the Unity 3D Web and enables not only theoretical education but also hands-on training. The platform was designed and developed to accommodate a variety of unit education contents, such as ppt documents, videos, etc. The platform, therdore, integrates ppt and video demonstrations for theoretical education, as well as software content "STACK-Up" for hands-on training. Theoretical education section provides specialized liberal arts knowledge on hydrogen, including renewable energy, hydrogen economy, and fuel cells. The software "STACK-Up" provides a hands-on practice on assembling the stack parts. Stack is the very core component of fuel cells. The Meta-Fuelcell platform improves the limitations of face-to-face education. It provides educators with the opportunities of non-face-to-face education without restrictions such as educational place, time, and occupancy. On the other hand, learners can choose educational themes, order, etc. It provides educators and learners with interesting experiences to be active in the metaverse space. This platform is being applied experimentally to a education project which is to develop advanced manpower in the fuel cell industry. Its improvement is in progress.

The elastic and inelastic responses obtained from the experimental and analytical results of two RC building structures under the service level earthquake (SLE) and maximum considered earthquake (MCE) in Korea were used to weinvestigate the characteristics of the mechanisms resisting shear and torsional behavior in torsionally unbalanced structures. Equations representing the interactive effect of translational drift and torsional deformation on the shear force and torsional moment were proposed. Because there is no correlation in the behavior between elastic and inelastic forces and strains, the incremental shear forces and incremental torsional moments were analyzed in terms of their corresponding incremental drifts and incremental torsional deformations with respect to the yield, unloading, and reloading phases around the maximum edge-frame drift. In the elastic combination of the two dominant modes, the translational drift mainly contributes to the shear force, whereas the torsional deformation contributes significantly to the overall torsional moment. However, this phenomenon is mostly altered in the inelastic response such that the incremental translational drift contributes to both the incremental shear forces and incremental torsional moments. In addition, the given equation is used to account for all phenomena, such as the reduction in torsional eccentricity, degradation of torsional stiffness, and apparent energy generation in an inelastic response.

This study examined changes in the energy landscape, focusing on the photovoltaic module carbon certification system. As the global photovoltaic market has been reorganized around Chinese companies, the South Korean government has pushed to strengthen the competitiveness of the nation's photovoltaic industry. However, a limitation remains in that the government-led effort was not sufficient to bring about dynamic changes in the energy landscape. Against this backdrop, this study explored the stages leading to the multi-level perspectives of "macro-environment, socio-technical regime, and niche" to track the process of the government and domestic photovoltaic companies as part of a socio-technical regime responding to global market changes. In particular, this study raised an issue with the conceptual discussion of multi-level perspective, which placed a particular emphasis on the rate of change at each level and the niche in which innovative experiments take place, and thus attempted to fill this gap by tracking the energy landscape that varies differently from space. These spatial discussions can track different carbon emissions coefficients and industrial characteristics for each country, and have a higher level of explanatory power for the system thus constructed. In addition, through discussions on the problems and implications of the government-led introduction of renewable energy policies, this study suggests the need to create and implement a field-oriented system.
Vanillin is the primary flavor and fragrance compound of natural vanilla and is extensively used in the food, beverage, perfumery, pharmaceutical industries, and other applications. Vanillin can be produced by chemical synthesis, extraction from vanilla plants, microbial bioconversion of natural precursors to vanillin, and direct fermentation using glucose. Currently, most commercially available vanillin is produced by extraction from cured vanilla pods and by chemical synthesis using guaiacol and glyoxylic acid as starting raw materials. Due to environmental issues, health complaints, preference for natural sources, and the limited supply and soaring price of natural vanilla, biotechnology-based vanillin production is regarded as a promising alternative. As many microorganisms that are able to metabolize several natural precursors, including ferulic acid, eugenol, isoeugenol, and lignin, and accumulate vanillin, have been screened and evaluated, myriad strategies and efforts have been employed for the development of commercially viable production technology. This review outlines the recent advances in the biotechnological production of natural vanillin with the use of these natural precursors. Moreover, it highlights the recent engineering approaches for the production of natural vanillin from renewable carbon sources based on the de novo biosynthetic pathway of vanillin from glucose, together with appropriate solution strategies to overcome the challenges posed to increase production titers.

The construction of new renewable energy facilities is steadily increasing every year. In particular, the offshore wind farm market, which has abundant development scalability and a high production coefficient, is growing rapidly. The southwest sea has the highest possible offshore wind power potential, and related projects are to be promoted. This study presents a basic design procedure by the EUROCODE and considers structural safety in the development of an effective of shore wind foundation in the clay layer. In a previous study, the wind power generator of 5MW class was the main target, but the 8MW of wind turbine generator, which meets the technical trend of the wind turbine market in the Southwest sea, was selected as the standard model. Furthermore, a foundation that fulfills the geological conditions of the Southwest sea was developed. The structural safety of this foundation was verified using finite element method. Moreover, structural safety was secured by proper reinforcement from the initial design. Based on the results of this study, structural safety check for various types of foundations is possible in the future. Additionally, specialized structural design and evaluation guidance were also established.
Alkaline fuel cells using liquid fuels such as hydrazine and ammonia are gaining great attention as a clean and renewable energy solution possibly owing to advantages such as excellent energy density, simple structure, compact size in fuel container, and ease of storage and transportation. However, common shortcomings including cathode flooding, fuel crossover, side yield reactions, and fuel security and toxicity are still challenging issues. Real time monitoring of fuel concentrations integrated into a fuel cell device can help improving fuel cell performance via predicting any loss of fuels used at a cathode for efficient energy production. There have been extensive research efforts made on developing real-time sensing platforms for hydrazine and ammonia. Among these, recent advancements in electrochemical sensors offering high sensitivity and selectivity, easy fabrication, and fast monitoring capability for analysis of hydrazine and ammonia concentrations will be introduced. In particular, research trend on the integration of metallic and metal oxide nanoparticles and also their hybrids with carbon-based nanomaterials into electrochemical sensing platforms for improvement in sensitivity and selectivity will be highlighted.
