This study was carried out to investigate the effects of influent $NH_4^{\;+}-N$ load, C/N ratio and superficial air velocity on the nitrogen removal efficiencies. Laboratory scale upflow biological aerated filter(BAF) was consisted of an anoxic-aerobic filter packed with porous ceramic media and operated with synthetic wastewater. BAFs requires less energy and space for the system when compared to conventional activated sludge process. The influent C/N ratios were varied from 0 to 1 by adjusting acetate. Various superficial air velocity had been applied to investigate aeration effect on nitrogen removal. The BAF reactor showed more than 90% average $NH_4^{\;+}-N$ removal efficiencies at $NH_4^{\;+}-N$ loading in the range of $0.26{\sim}1.33$ kg $NH_4^{\;+}-N/m^3{\cdot}d$ and 62% average T-N removal efficiencies at the C/N ratio of 1. Moreover, average T-N removal efficiencies increased as the superficial air velocity increased, because of the increase $NH_4^{\;+}-N$ removal efficiencies.
This study was conducted to know the removal characteristics of ammonia nitrogen by commercially available cation exchange resins. Eight acidic cation exchange resins were investigated in batch reactors. Among them, the most effective resin for ammonia removal in solution was PK228, which was a strong acidic resin of $Na^{+}$ type. PK228 was compared with activated carbon and natural zeolite. The effects of cation exchange capacity, ammonia concentration, resin amount, temperature and pH on ammonia removal by PK228 were investigated in batch reactor, and the effect of effluent velocity in continuous column reactor. Strong acidic resins of porous type were more effective than week acidic resins or gel type resins for ammonia removal in solution. PK228 was more effective than activated carbon and natural zeolite for ammonia removal in batch reactor. With increasing initial ammonia concentration, the amount of ammonia removed by PK228 increased, but the proportion of removed ammonia to initial ammonia concentration decreased. The effect or temperature on ammonia removal by PK228 was very slight. The ammonia removal to acidic solution was more effective than that at basic solution. With decreasing effluent velocity of solution through column, breakthrough point extended, and ammonia removal capacity increased.d.
Flow-through aquaculture systems generate large amounts of wastewater containing compounds such as solids that can settle near aquafarms and cause eutrophication. The settled solids are often reintroduced into flow-through systems, and aquatic animals can be affected by the solids and pathogens associated with these solids. For a sustainable aquaculture operation, adequate wastewater treatment is required. Hydrocyclones are one of the most promising technologies for the removal of solids in aquaculture wastewater. In this study, a model for performance prediction of hydrocyclones was investigated under three different operating conditions: water temperature, solids concentration, and water inlet velocity. The synthetic solids solution was prepared using settled solids from abalone aquaculture farms. The daily solids removal rates of the tested hydrocyclones ranged from 0.18 to 26.0 g solids-m-3-day-1, and removal efficiency ranged from 5.1 to 34.4%. The inlet water velocity had the greatest effect on solids removal and hydrocyclone efficiencies. The following multiregression model equation was derived from the daily solids removal rate (g solids-m-3-day-1) results for water temperature (T, ℃), solids concentration (SS, mg-L-1), and tangential inlet water velocity (TIV, m-sec-1): daily solids removal rate: f(z)=4.465+0.809TIV-0.375T+0.217SS (r2=0.976).
A compressible media filtration process with synthetic fiber media was studied for combined sewer overflows (CSOs) treatment. Since the operation performance of fiber media filtration was dependent on the pattern of CSOs, the flow rate of CSOs was investigated and it was characterized by a big fluctuation. Thus, in this study, the fiber media filtration process was tested with wide range of filtration velocity. The removal efficiency was proportion to the increase in compressibility. As the filtration velocity was increased, the treatment efficiency was decreased and consequently leveled off when the velocity exceeded 750 $m^3/m^2$/d. An exponential equation was introduced to express the relationship between the removal efficiency and up-flow velocity. At columm test, six repetition of filtration and backwash cycle did not after the filtering velocity under the constant pressure condition.
This study was performed to measure the changes of the mandibular movement and the masticatory muscular activities - anterior temporal and masseter muscle of both side - reflected by intentional increase of anterior guidance angie. For this study, 5 volunteers (3 males and 2 females with average age of 24.0) were selected. Each volunteer had Angle's classification I and did not have any missing tooth except third molar and any extensive restorations. Metallic guide plate was made at volunteer's working model fabricated by improved dental stone and cemented to the palatal surface of maxillary central incisor using resin cement(Panavia $21^{(R)}$) and then adjusted not to give any occlusal interferences at intercuspal position. The activity of masticatory muscles and the changes of mandibular movement were recorded by EMG and Sirognathograph in Biopak analysing system(Bioresearch Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA). Measurement was done at before experiment, immediatley after placement, 1 week after placement, immediately after removal, and 1 week after removal. The results were as follows: 1. Moderate phonetic disturbance and mild headache were occured to 3 volunteers for 2 days after setting and 1 volunteer had positive reaction to percussion and slight midline diastema. But all of these clinical signs were diappeared 1 week after removal and the other volunteer did not have any special clinical sign. 2. In the EMG of the mandibular rest position, the mean value of anterior tempotal muscle was increased immediately after placement(p<0.01) and then decreased 1 week after placement(p<0.05) and increased 1 week after removal(p<0.05) but not recovered as before experiment. The mean value of masseter muscle was decreased during the experiment period. 3. In the EMG during mandibular protrusive movement, all muscular activity was decreased during the experiment period. Reduced activity was not recovered 1 week after removal(p<0.03). 4. During the habitual opening, anteroposterior movement of mandible was decreased immediately after placement(p<0.05) and then increased 1 week after placement but not statistically significant(p>0.1). Vertical movement was not shown significant difference during the experiment period(p>0.1). Lateral movement was decreased immediately after placement(p<0.05) and then increased 1 week after placement but not recovered as before experiment. The opening and closing velocity of mandible was shown minor changes but not statistically significant. 5. During the habitual opening, anteroposterior movement of mandible was decreased 1 week after placement(p<0.05) and then increased immediately after removal and recovered 1 week after removal as before experiment. Vertical movement was not shown significant changes. Lateral displacement of mandible was increased continuously and recovered 1 week after removal. Opening velocity was temporarily increased immediately after removal but recovered and closing velocity was not shown significant changes. 6. During the right side chewing, anteroposterior movement of mandible was increased immediately after removal but recovered and vertical movement was not shown statistically significant results. Lateral displacement and velocity of mandible were not shown significant results. 7. During the left side chewing, the changes of mandibular movement pattern were not shown statistically significant results.
The feasibility of foam separation to remove protein produced from fish culture water was investigated, By assuming foam separation column as a single well-mixed pool, a simplified model for foam separator conditions was alse studied under the batch operation. The model indicated that the protein removal could be described as a first-order reaction whose rate increases with both superficial air velocity and protein concentration in the bulk solution. from ,the results of an experimental study on the effects of superficial air velocity, the protein concentration, temperature, and pH on protein removal, the superficial air velocity and initial protein concentration in bulk solution were found to be important operational factors. Other experimental results important that foam separator operated under batch conditions would be considered as a completely mixed reactor. The protein removal rate by foam separation process was increased proportionally with the superficial air velocity, and the adsorptive removal rate of protein was found to obey Langmuir adsorption formula. The preposed simplified model was verified with the experimental data obtained from this study. Under the experimental range used, both temperature and pH did not affect the protein removal.

In this study, it was studied that the removal rate of VOC by the catalytic combustion. The combustion temperature was changed by the contact type of VOC(space velocity and catalyst depth) and the space velocity(SV) was defined by the rate of gas volume flow rate(Q, $m^3/hr$) over volume(V, $m^3$) of catalyst (SV=Q/V). The space velocity of catalytic combustor is maintained $10,000{\sim}50,000hr^{-1}$. it was studied that the conversion rate of VOC by the catalytic combustion. The combustion temperature was changed by the contact type of VOC and catalyst and the space velocity was defined by the rate of gas volume flow rate over volume of catalyst. The VOC which pass thru the heat exchanger was measured by the hydro ionic detector and measured the VOC removal rate by the activated catalyst in the reaction temperature range of 373K-423K. The removal rate was measured over 100 times. In the automobile painting booth The VOC concentration was 63.37ppm and the removal rate was 70 % at 373K and 78.92% at 423K. The removal rate was increased as increased the temperature.

In this study, the effectiveness of electrodialysis in removing inorganic arsenic from groundwater was investigated. To evaluate the feasibility of the electrodialysis, operating parameters such as treatment time, feed concentration, applied voltage and superficial velocity were experimentally investigated on arsenic removal. The higher conductivity removal and arsenic removal efficiency were obtained by increasing applied voltages and operation time. An increase of salinity concentrations in arsenic polluted groundwater exerted no effects on the arsenic separation ratios. Arsenic polluted waters were successfully treated with stack voltages of 1.8 ~ 2.4 V/cell-pair to approximately 93.4% of arsenic removal. Increase flow rate in diluate cell gave positive effect to removal rate. However, increase of superficial velocity in the concentrated cell exerted no effects on either the conductivity reduction or on the separation efficiency. Hopefully, this paper will provide direction in selecting appropriate operating conditions of electrodialysis for arsenic removal.

Air pollutants nitrogen oxides are inevitably generated in the combustion reaction. Its amount trend is steadily increasing because the rapid modern industrialization and population growth. For this reason, NOx is controlled to reducing the harmful components in the exhaust gas. So Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) take effect 'Tier I', 'Tier II' of air pollution regulation in 2005 and 2011 respectively. According to NOx emissions are strictly regulated management of the vessel through them. In addition, since 2016 the regulation enter into force in the next step 'Tier III' was confirmed by MEPC 66th committee. It's 80% enhanced emissions limits than the 'Tier I' Alternatively these emission regulation, research is actively being carried out about exhaust gas after-treatment methods through the vessel application of Selective Catalytic Reduction(SCR). Therefore depending on the basic specification of cell density according to the Area velocity, Space velocity, Linear velocity is studied the effects of NOx removal efficiency
The removal characteristics of H$_2$S from IGCC process over the natural manganese ore(NMO) containing several metal oxides($MnO_x$ : 51.85%, $FeO_y$ : 3.86%, CaO : 0.11%) were carried out in a batch type fluidized bed reactor(I.D.=40mm, height=0.8m). The $H_2S$ breakthrough curves were obtained as a function of temperature, initial gas velocity, initial gas concentration, and aspect ratio. The effect of particle size ratio and particle mixing fraction on $H_2S$ removal were investigated with binary system of different particle size. From this study, the adsorption capacity of $H_2S$ increased with temperature but decreased with excess gas velocity. The breakthrough time for $H_2S$ is reduced as the gas velocity is increased which leaded to gas by-passing and gas-solid contacting in a fluidized bed reactor. The results of the binary particle system with different size in batch experimental could predict to improve the behavior of continuous process of $H_2S$ removal efficiency. The natural manganese ore could be considered as potential sorbent in $H_2S$ removal.
