Damping of Inter-Area Low Frequency Oscillation Using an Adaptive Wide-Area Damping Controller

  • This paper presents an adaptive wide-area damping controller (WADC) based on generalized predictive control (GPC) and model identification for damping the inter-area low frequency oscillations in large-scale inter-connected power system. A recursive least-squares algorithm (RLSA) with a varying forgetting factor is applied to identify online the reduced-order linearlized model which contains dominant inter-area low frequency oscillations. Based on this linearlized model, the generalized predictive control scheme considering control output constraints is employed to obtain the optimal control signal in each sampling interval. Case studies are undertaken on a two-area four-machine power system and the New England 10-machine 39-bus power system, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive WADC not only can damp the inter-area oscillations effectively under a wide range of operation conditions and different disturbances, but also has better robustness against to the time delay existing in the remote signals. The comparison studies with the conventional lead-lag WADC are also provided.

The intelligent substation is build in Gochang 765kV testing facility and consists of electronic instruments, digital control panel, remote monitoring and diagnosis system and digital relay system. Rogowski coil type CT(RCT) and capacitive voltage divider(CVD) are applicable for instrument transformer of conventional type. Digital control panel(DCP) replaces local panel which is drived by mechanical operation. For monitoring condition of GIS and TR, various sensors are used. In this paper, we report the synopsis and the progress state of project.

  • A new monitoring system is proposed to give direct visual information of the remote site when working with a tele-operation system. In order to have a similar behavior of a human when he is inspecting an object, multiple cameras that have different view point are attached around the robot hand and are switched on and elf according to the operator´s motion such as joystick manipulation or operator´s head movement.   • 본 연구에서 개발한 홈 자동화 시스템은 임베디드 시스템에 LabVIEW PDA 모듈을 사용해 원거리 제어가 가능하고, PDA 장비 프로그래밍이 가능한 데모 장비이다. 모든 작동 프로그램은 LabVIEW로 이루어져 있다. 또한, 각 임베디드 시스템은 개인용 PC와의 배선 없이 스스로 동작하는 모드로 이루어져 있다. 이 홈 자동화 시스템은 무선 랜(802.11b)을 통한 PDA의 LabVIEW에 의해서 통제된다.

Energy-Efficient DNN Processor on Embedded Systems for Spontaneous Human-Robot Interaction

  • Recently, deep neural networks (DNNs) are actively used for action control so that an autonomous system, such as the robot, can perform human-like behaviors and operations. Unlike recognition tasks, the real-time operation is essential in action control, and it is too slow to use remote learning on a server communicating through a network. New learning techniques, such as reinforcement learning (RL), are needed to determine and select the correct robot behavior locally. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient DNN processor with a LUT-based processing engine and near-zero skipper. A CNN-based facial emotion recognition and an RNN-based emotional dialogue generation model is integrated for natural HRI system and tested with the proposed processor. It supports 1b to 16b variable weight bit precision with and 57.6% and 28.5% lower energy consumption than conventional MAC arithmetic units for 1b and 16b weight precision. Also, the near-zero skipper reduces 36% of MAC operation and consumes 28% lower energy consumption for facial emotion recognition tasks. Implemented in 65nm CMOS process, the proposed processor occupies 1784×1784 um2 areas and dissipates 0.28 mW and 34.4 mW at 1fps and 30fps facial emotion recognition tasks.

  • 유비쿼터스 환경을 위한 센서 네트워크 분야에서 RFID 관련 기술들은 매우 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있다. RFID는 정보의 실시간 처리 및 네트워킹의 특성으로 현재 사용되고 있는 바코드를 대체하여 유통 및 물류 분야 등의 산업 전반과 각종 원격측정장비 그리고 보안분야에 걸친 다양한 응용 서비스분야에 이용되고 있다. 현재 RFID 기술을 이용한 항만의 관리 시스템은 컨테이너 차량의 이동, 화물 장치, 화물 선적 등의 분야에 이용되어 작업 시간의 단축 및 정보의 정확성의 향상 등에 이점을 제공하고 있지만, 물적 자원을 위주로 운영되고 있어 인적 자원에 대한 관리는 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본 논문은 항만 내 작업인원에 대하여 2.4GHz 대역의 RFID 태그를 소지하게 하여, RFID 리더를 통해 위치 정보를 수집하여 모니터링 할 수 있는 시스템을 설계하였다.

  • A prototype of the Bridge Transported Servo Manipulator (BTSM) system has been developed to do operation and maintenance jobs remotely in a hot cell. The system consists of a telescopic transporter, a slave arm, a master arm, and a control system. In this paper, the system is introduced and several performance test results are presented. The results have been used to design an upgraded system that will be used during demonstrations of the advanced spent fuel conditioning process.

  • 본 논문은 실생활에서 낭비되는 다양한 에너지 손실 중 주유소, 세탁소 등에서 손실되는 휘발성 유기화합물 (VoCs : Volatile organic Compounds)을 재활용하는 장치를 지능화하고 자동화 하는데 있다. 또한, 지그비(zigbee) 모듈 및 TCP/IP 통신기술을 활용한 ICT(Information Communication Technology) 기술을 도입하여 액화기를 원격지에서 모니터링하고 관리할 수 있는 통합관리시스템을 제시한다. 뿐만아니라, 안드로이드(android) 기반의 스마트 앱(App.)를 개발하여 원격지에서 관리할 수 있는 서비스 모델을 제시하고자 한다. 본 논문의 구성은 MCU 기반의 지능형 액화기 제어시스템의 구성과 지그비(zigbee) 기반의 브릿지(bridge) 모듈내부에 구현되는 통신 프로토콜을 제시한다. 통합관리시스템의 모바일 서비스를 위하여 안드로이드(android) 기반의 스마트 앱의 개발과 액화기 원격지 관리용 DB 서버(MS SQL 2012)와 웹서버(OS:Windows 2008)를 제시한다.
