  • Heavy rainfall events are occurred exceedingly various forms by a complex interaction between synoptic, dynamic and atmospheric stability. As the results, quantitative precipitation forecast is extraordinary difficult because it happens locally in a short time and has a strong spatial and temporal variations. GOES-9 imagery data provides continuous observations of the clouds in time and space at the right resolution. In this study, an power-law type algorithm(KAE: Korea auto estimator) for estimating rainfall based on the rainfall type was developed using geostationary meteorological satellite data. GOES-9 imagery and automatic weather station(AWS) measurements data were used for the classification of rainfall types and the development of estimation algorithm. Subjective and objective classification of rainfall types using GOES-9 imagery data and AWS measurements data showed that most of heavy rainfalls are occurred by the convective and mired type. Statistical analysis between AWS rainfall and GOES-IR data according to the rainfall types showed that estimation of rainfall amount using satellite data could be possible only for the convective and mixed type rainfall. The quality of KAE in estimating the rainfall amount and rainfall area is similar or slightly superior to the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service's auto-estimator(NESDIS AE), especially for the multi cell convective and mixed type heavy rainfalls. Also the high estimated level is denoted on the mature stage as well as decaying stages of rainfall system.

  • Marine surface winds observed by two microwave sensors, SeaWinds and Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR), on the Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-II (ADEOS-II) are evaluated by comparison with off-shore moored buoy observations. The wind speed and direction observed by SeaWinds are in good agreement with buoy data with root-mean-squared (rms) differences of approximately 1 m $s^{-1}$ and $20^{\circ}$, respectively. No systematic biases depending on wind speed or cross-track wind vector cell location are discernible. The effects of oceanographic and atmospheric environments on the scatterometry are negligible. The wind speed observed by AMSR also exhibited reasonable agreement with the buoy data in general with rms difference of 1.2 m $s^{-1}$. Systematic bias which was observed in earlier versions of the AMSR winds has been removed by algorithm refinements. Intercomparison of wind speeds globally observed by SeaWinds and AMSR on the same orbits also shows good agreements. Global wind speed histograms of the SeaWinds data and European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) analyses agree precisely with each other, while that of the AMSR wind shows slight deviation from them.

  • Group of genes controls the functioning of a cell by complex interactions. These interacting gene groups are called Gene Regulatory Networks (GRNs). Two previous data mining approaches, clustering and classification have been used to analyze gene expression data. While these mining tools are useful for determining membership of genes by homology, they don't identify the regulatory relationships among genes found in the same class of molecular actions. Furthermore, we need to understand the mechanism of how genes relate and how they regulate one another. In order to detect regulatory relationships among genes from time-series Microarray data, we propose a novel approach using frequent pattern mining and chain rule. In this approach, we propose a method for transforming gene expression data to make suitable for frequent pattern mining, and detect gene expression patterns applying FP-growth algorithm. And then, we construct gene regulatory network from frequent gene patterns using chain rule. Finally, we validated our proposed method by showing that our experimental results are consistent with published results.

  • In direct vehicle teleoperation, a human operator drives a vehicle at a distance through a pair of master and slave device. However, if there is time delay, it is difficult to remotely drive the vehicle due to slow response. In order to address this problem, we introduced a novel methodology of shared vehicle teleoperation using a virtual driving interface. The methodology was developed with four components: 1) virtual driving environment, 2) interface for virtual driving environment, 3) path generator based on virtual driving trajectory, 4) path following controller. Experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed approach in simple and cluttered driving environment as well. In the experiments, we compared two sampling methods, fixed sampling time and user defined instant, and finally merged method showed best remote driving performance in term of completion time and number of collision.

  • Many studies have been carried out on monitoring the target by cooperating a drone with remote sensors recently. This monitoring system uses static sensors to measure environmental data and drones to collect measured data. In geotechnical engineering, inspectors go around measuring the safety of construction site and it is impractical to compose a network among numerous sensors in terms of the cost efficiency. In this paper, we propose a data collection system based on interaction between a drone and a few sensors that are installed around the target structure for geotechnical projects. Through experimental results, we also verify the availability and the time and cost efficiency of the proposed system comparing with using inspectors.

  • Haptic rendering is a process providing force feedback during interactions between a user and a virtual object. This paper presents a real-time haptic rendering technique for deformable objects based on visual information of intervention between a tool and a real object in a remote place. A user can feel the artificial reaction force through a haptic device in real-time when a slave system exerts manipulation tasks on a deformable object. The models of the deformable object and the manipulator are created from the captured image obtained with a CCD camera and the recognition of objects is achieved using image processing techniques. The force at a rate of 1 kHz for stable haptic interaction is deduced using extrapolation of forces at a low update rate. The rendering algorithm developed was tested and validated on a test platform consisting of a one-dimensional indentation device and an off-the shelf force feedback device. This software system can be used in a cellular manipulation system providing artificial force feedback to enhance a success rate of operations.

  • Cupredoxin-like proteins are mainly copper-binding proteins that conserve a typical rigid Greek-key arrangement consisting of an eight-stranded β-sandwich, even though they share as little as 10-15% sequence similarity. The electron transport function of the Cupredoxins is critical for respiration and photosynthesis, and the proteins have therapeutic potential. Despite their crucial biological functions, the identification of the distant Cupredoxin homologs has been a difficult task due to their low sequence identity. In this study, the overlapped conserved residue (OCR) fingerprint for the Cupredoxin superfamily, which consists of conserved residues in three aspects (i.e., the sequence, structure, and intramolecular interaction), was used to detect the novel Cupredoxin homologs in the NCBI non-redundant protein sequence database. The OCR fingerprint could identify 54 potential Cupredoxin sequences, which were validated by scanning them against the conserved Cupredoxin motif near the Cu-binding site. This study also attempted to model the 3D structures and to predict the functions of the identified potential Cupredoxins. This study suggests that the OCR-based approach can be used efficiently to detect novel homologous proteins with low sequence identity, such as Cupredoxins.

  • We introduce about XBRL, eXtensible Business Reporting Language, which is widely accepted as the international standard language for business financial reporting. XBRL is a language for the electronic communication of business and financial data which is revolutionizing business reporting around the world. It provides major benefits in the preparation, analysis and communication of business information. It offers cost savings, greater efficiency and improved accuracy and reliability to all those involved in supplying or using financial data. XBRL is a kind of XML application based on the open Internet technologies. We propose a framework for enterprise information supply chain using XBRL Web services. A Web service is defined as a software system based on XML and designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network by the W3C. Web services are frequently just application programming interfaces (API) that can be accessed over a network, such as the internet and executed on a remote system hosting the requested services. An XBRL Web service-based enterprise information supply chain enables for companies to implement seamless information supply chains from businesses to financial institutions, to supervisory authorities, and to other stake holders for real time information access. And thereby it is expected to contribute to the increase in the value of companies due to the enhanced visibility and transparency of accounting and management.
