  • Recently, applications of the reluctance torque motor have been quite limited due to their inherent limitation of noise and vibration and thus, researches on the reluctance motor have been limited as well. However, with the tremendous increase in the cost of rare earth material magnets, studies of the reluctance torque motor are being conducted more and more. In principle, reluctance torque is generated when the inductance is changed. Therefore, in order to generate continuous torque in the switched reluctance motor, it is necessary to figure out the exact inductance level corresponding to the rotor position and the current level to be applied in that rotor position, respectively. If the current level or the rotor position is not accurately determined, then the generated reluctance torque becomes unstable and undesirable torque ripples prevail to eventually cause noise and vibrations. In this research, a flux switched reluctance motor (FSRM), which is classified into the switched reluctance motor (SRM), was studied. A methodology using the current shaping control according to the rotor position was proposed. Based on the proposed methodology, the optimal current waveform and the torque distribution function for the FSRM to minimize torque ripple was established and demonstrated in this paper.

  • Currently, switched reluctance motors are studied to increase energy efficient. The switched reluctance motor is possible to control higher speed and torque than the induction motors and composition is simple. Current and rotor speed are considered to install the switched reluctance motor. In this paper, Simulink model of the switched reluctance motor is suggested and the adaptive controller is applied to the model for the speed control. Asymmetry converter including the IGBT is concerned with real-time control and the speed of switched reluctance motor is controlled by installing adaptive controller.

  • This paper examines the design and the performance of a PMA-RSM(permanent-magnet assisted reluctance synchronous motor) for washing machine. A FEM(finite element method) is used to analyze performance and maximum torque characteristic of the proposed PMA-RSM. The designed motor is a combination of salient poles, which is making reluctance torque, and permanent magnet which are located on the air-gap of rotor to get a enough torque during low speed resign. Typical flux barrier type reluctance synchronous motor and the effects of adding magnet into the flux barrier of the rotor of a PMA-RSM are compared and examined. Also the maximum torque point of the reluctance torque by reluctance and reaction torque by magnetic alignment torque, which is in barrier, of the proposed PMS-RSM are derived through simulation. Using this results, the characteristics analysis of a performance, an average torque and a torque ripple of flux barrier RSM and the proposed PMA-RSM are performed through FEM under the saturation effect respectively.

  • Classically, reluctance torque of IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) by using inductance according to current phase angle generates an error. This error is affected by total torque. From current phase angle $0^{\circ}$ to large errors will occur, because reluctance torque include current phase angle. But, reluctance torque from steady-state voltage equation of IPMSM is represented by linkage flux. So, reluctance torque is unrelated to the current phase angle formula can be derived. In this paper, operating torque was analyzed by d, q-axis linkage flux of IPMSM and reluctance torque to perform calculations reduced the error of the total torque calculation.

  • Electric locomotive is adapted to high speed driving and mass transportation due to obtaining high traction force. The electric locomotive is operated by motor blocks and traction motors. Train speed is controlled by suppling power from motor blocks to traction motors according to reference speed. Speed control of the electric locomotive is efficient by spending energy between motor blocks and traction motors. Currently, switched reluctance motors have been studied because the efficient is higher than induction motors. In this paper, model of the switched reluctance motor is presented and the PID controller is applied to the model for the speed control by using Simulink. Asymmetry converter is used for real-time control and system performance is demonstrated by simulating the speed of switched reluctance motor including PID controller.

  • The single phase switched reluctance motor has been studied and developed actively in the various applications with several kinds and forms because of the developments of the design technique by using the computer and of the driving technique power electronic technology, which has the merits of a simple and robust structure, and first of all reducing the number of the switching devices in comparison with poly phase switched reluctance motor. And also, the studies are making progess to substitute the switched reluctance motor for single phase induction motor. In the previous studies, the single phase switched reluctance motor for the drive of blower is designed with the design theory of the conventional rotating electric machine and poly phase switched reluctance motor. In this paper, we intend to select the optimal pole arc and pole pitch ratio by the FEM analysis, because the pole arc and pole pitch are very important factor to determine the characteristics of switched reluctance motor.

  • This paper presents a study on the design parameters that consider the magnetic saturation effect in a rotor core of a synchronous reluctance motor. Two important design parameters in a rotor are selected to analyze the saturation effect of a synchronous reluctance motor, particularly in a rotor core. The thickness of the main segment, which is the main path of the d-axis flux, and the end rip, which affects the q-axis flux, are analyzed using the d-axis and q-axis inductances. Moreover, the characteristics of torque and torque ripple when magnetic saturation takes place are analyzed. The saturation effect is verified by comparing the reluctance torque between the experiment and FEM simulation.

  • This paper presents a hybrid motor prototype convenient to modify the magnet and reluctance torques. The rotor of the prototype consists of magnet and reluctance parts, so the generated torque includes both magnet and reluctance torques. A considerable feature of the motor is that the ratio of the magnet and reluctance parts can be modified on the rotor and the rotor hybridization ratio can be varied. Another important point is the mechanical angle between the parts changed by means of the suitable construction of the parts on the rotor shaft. Finite element (FE) analysis was carried out for the proposed motor and static torque measurements were realized. The FE results were compared with the experimental results. Average torque and maximum torque values were obtained and three dimensional 3-D graphs were formed by using the experimental data. It is possible to make different combinations by changing the parts and the angle between the parts due to the proposed motor. So the magnet and reluctance torques are modified and different combinations give different torque behavior.

  • Some works about the current sensorless control of a synchronous reluctance motor have been presented. However, there is no analysis about the performance and the detuning effect of the current sensorless control. This paper presents the problems and the detuning effect of the current sensorless control of a synchronous reluctance motor by simulation results. In addition, torque limiter is proposed to limit the torque current within the torque limit.

  • Because of the powerful tolerance of overload, dynamic response and anti-erosion, Reluctive Pressure Transducer(RPT), as a measuring element of oil pressure equipment is applied to the measuring system of vessels, air craft. The Electrical reluctance appeared in the pressed diaphragm. To process the reluctance as a electric signal, bridge circuit is used. The design using the reluctance of pressure sensor is described in this paper. For the high efficiency of the sensitive RPT, pressure sensor structure is presented and electrical signal processing is simulated.
