  • Ultraviolet spectrophotometric investigation has been carried out on the rate constants for 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of 4-substituted-3-phenyloxadiazole derivatives with dipolarophiles such as phenyl acetylene, propiolic acid methyl ester and dimethylacetylene dicarboxylate. From there, the rate constants for 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition were determined at 80, 100 and $120^{\circ}C$, and the reaction rates were increased with increasing temperature. From these rate constants, the values of the thermodynamic activation parameters were obtained. Some thermodynamic activation parameters such as $E_{\alpha}$, ${\Delta}H^{\ast}$, ${\Delta}S^{\ast}$ and ${\Delta}G^{\ast}$ from Arrhenius equation were also calculated for the electrophilic 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of 3-phenyloxadiazole derivatives with dipolarophiles. In order to the proposal the mechanism and reactivity of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction, the effect of substituents having various kinds of electron withdrawing or releasing groups were examinated. Considering the effect of substituents, an electron withdrawing group attached at the 4-carbon position in 3-phenyloxadiazole derivatives decreases the reaction rate because of the lack of electron density in 3-phenyloxadiazole ring.

  • To gain insight into the relationship between the occurrence of occlusive arrhythmia(OA) and the incidence of reperfusion arrhythmia(RA), this study used 25 open-chest dogs anesthetized with halothan, these were ligated between anterior ventricular branch and marginal branch of left circumflex artery for 30 minutes and occlusive arrhythmia were observed during the ligation. After releasing of the ligation, TA were observed during 5 minutes. The results were summerized as follow; 1. Such arrhythmias as ventricular fibrillation(VF), short run type VPC Premature contraction(VPC), Venticular tachycardia(VT), ventricularc and trigeminy VPC(TVPC) were observed during occlusion and reperfusion. 2. The cases occurred VT, SRVPC and TVPC during occlusion necessarily were Incidence of RA. 3. RA never occurred without appearence of occlusive arrhythmias. 4. The occurrence rate of OA showed 55.5% in the incidence group of RA and 24.6% in the non incidence group of RA. 5. The occurrence rate of VPC during occlusion showed 9.9+5.85(episode/min) in the incidence group of RA and 4.46+5.88(episode/min) in the non-incidence group of RA. These results may be estimated that the occurrence of VT, SRVPC and TVPC, and the high occurrence rate of VPC during occlusion can be predicted the incidence.

  • The incidence of reperfusion arrhythmia(RA) according to occlusive position of coronary artery was induced in 25 open-chest dogs anestherized with halothan, these were ligated between anterior ventricular branch and marginal branch of left circumflex artery for 30 minutes and after releasing of the ligation, the incidence of RA was observed during 5 minutes. The incidence rate of RA occurred in 36%(9 heads) of the cases, 20%(5 heads) of them died before reperfusion and 44%(11 heads) of them survived after reperfusion. In the classification according to the length of anterior ventricular branch in left circumflex artery, the incidence rate of RA occurred in 80% of the group I(5 heads) which belongs to short size of anterior ventricilar branch, in 50% of the group II (8 heads) which belongs to medium size, in 8.3% of the group III(12 heads) which belongs to long size and in 61.5% of the groups I and II(13 heads). These results showed the higher incidence rate of RA than in other occlusive position (left anterior descending artery), and it may be estimated that the incidence of RA changed with the significant difference according to the lengthe of anterior ventricular branch, in other words, dimension of ischemic area in left ventricle.

  • In this study, a BTX degrading microbial consortium was obtained from the activated sludges of a BTX releasing sewage water and city sewage water treatment plant. The MY microbial consortium was developed for benzene and toluene degradation, whereas the MA microbial consortium was developed for xylene isomers. The major microorganism of the MA consortium was identified as Rhodococcus ruber DSM 43338T, whereas that of the MY consortium was Rhodococcus sp. In terms of the degradation of a single component, the removal rate of benzene was fastest and decreased in order; toluene, o-xylene, p-xylene and m-xylene. For degradation of mixed BTX, most BTX were degraded within 108 hours and the degradation rate showed either stimulatory or inhibitory effects depending on the composition. MA and MY microbial consortium obtained in this study may be used effectively to remove BTX biologically.

  • In order to let a wind generator (WG) support the frequency control of a power system, a conventional inertial control algorithm using the rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) and frequency deviation loops was suggested. The ROCOF loop is prevailing at the initial stage of the disturbance, but the contribution becomes smaller as time goes on. Moreover, its contribution becomes negative after the frequency rebound. This paper proposes an inertial control algorithm of a wind power plant (WPP) using the maximum ROCOF and frequency deviation loops. The proposed algorithm replaces the ROCOF loop in the conventional inertial control algorithm with the maximum ROCOF loop to retain the maximum value of the ROCOF and eliminate the negative effect after the frequency rebound. The algorithm releases more kinetic energy both before and after the frequency rebound and increases the frequency nadir more than the conventional ROCOF and frequency loops. The performance of the algorithm was investigated under various wind conditions in a model system, which includes a doubly-fed induction generator-based WPP using an EMTP-RV simulator. The results indicate that the algorithm can improve the frequency drop for a disturbance by releasing more kinetic energy.

  • The oxidative decarboxylation of phenylsulfinylacetic acid (PSAA) by Cr(VI) in 20% acetonitrile -80% water (v/v) medium follows overall second order kinetics, first order each with respect to [PSAA] and [Cr(VI)] at constant [$H^+$] and ionic strength. The reaction is acid catalysed, the order with respect to [$H^+$] is unity and the active oxidizing species is found to be $HCrO_3^+$. The reaction mechanism involves the rate determining nucleophilic attack of sulfur atom of PSAA on chromium of $HCrO_3^+$ forming a sulfonium ion intermediate. The intermediate then undergoes ${\alpha}$,${\beta}$-cleavage leading to the liberation of $CO_2$. The product of the reaction is found to be methyl phenyl sulfone. The operation of substituent effect shows that PSAA containing electron-releasing groups in the meta- and para-positions accelerate the reaction rate while electron withdrawing groups retard the rate. An excellent correlation is found to exist between log $k_2$ and Hammett ${\sigma}$ constants with a negative value of reaction constant. The ${\rho}$ value decreases with increase in temperature evidencing the high reactivity and low selectivity in the case of substituted PSAAs.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between conception rate and other parameters (body condition score; BCS, progesterone concentrations and follicle size) before estrus induction with CIDR(intravaginal progesterone-releasing controlled internal drug release). The conception rate in cows with < 2.75, 2.75 to 3.25, and 3.25 <, BCS regardless of AI (artificial insemination) time was 46.6%, 63.3%, and 46.6% at CIDR insertion, respectively. The conception rate regardless of BCS was 54.9% in cows inseminated based on detected estrus, and 48.7% in cows inseminated at 72 to 80 hours (timed artificial insemination, TAI) after removal of CIDR. The conception rate regardless of AI time was 40.0% in cows with low progesterone concentrations (less than 1.0 ng/ml), and 56.6% in cows with high progesterone concentrations (more than 1.0 ng/ml) at CIDR injection. The conception rate regardless of progesterone concentrations was 53.8% in cows inseminated based on detected estrus, and 38.0% in cows of TAI after removal of CIDR. The conception rate regardless of AI time was 43.3% in cows with small follicle (less than 5 mm), 53.3% in cows between 5 mm to 10 mm of follicle, and 63.3% in cows with large folliclc (more than 10 mm) at CIDR injection, respectively. The conception rate regardless of follicle size was 58.4% in cows inseminated based on detected estrus, and 45.9% in cows of TAI after removal of CIDR. These results indicated that if the cows with BCS 2.75 to 3.25, active corpus luteum, and/or large dominant follicle (more than 10 mm) are used for estrus induction, the conception rate will be greater.

  • The aim of the present study was to determine whether brain corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and a new peptide, urocortin (UCN) have a direct action in brain mechanisms controlling feed, water and salt intake in sheep. We gave a continuous intracerebroventricular (ICV) infusion of the peptide at a small dose of $5{\mu}g/0.2ml/hr$ for 98.5 hrs from day 1 to day 5 in sheep not exposed to stress. Feed and water intake during ICV infusion of CRF or UCN decreased significantly compared to those during artificial cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) infusion. NaCl intake during infusion of CRF or UCN was the same as that during CSF infusion. Mean carotid arterial blood pressure (MAP) and heart rate during ICV infusion of CRF or UCN were not significantly different from that during CSF infusion. On the other hand, the plasma glucose concentration during ICV infusion of CRF or UCN tended to be higher than that during CSF infusion. These observations indicate that decreased feed intake induced by CRF and UCN infusion is not mediated by the activation of both the pituitary-adrenal axis and the sympathetic nervous system. The results suggested that brain CRF and UCN act directly in brain mechanisms controlling ingestive behavior to decrease feed and water intake, but do not alter salt intake in sheep.

  • Ovulation of maturing femal mandarin fish, Siniperca scherzeri was induced using single injection of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) or gonadotropin releasing hormone-analogue (GnRH-a), GnRH-a plus prostaglandin F2 (PG$F_2$) or GnRH-a plus pimozide. The response was evaluated by fertilization, embryo-formation and hatching rate after insemination. Those rates were generally higher in GnRH-a group than in HCG group. The higher hatching rat of above 89% was achived using a dosage of 5,000 IU/kg HCG plus 10 ${\mu}$g/kg GnRH-a, 10${\mu}$g/kg GnRH-a plus 500 ng/kg PGF2, and 10 ug/kg GnRH-a plus 1-5 mg/kg pimozide. Ovulation was induced in all female injected with sex-maturation hormones and stimulator, but blocked in female injected with HCG plus GnRH-a plus dopamine combination, and GnRH-a plus PGF2 plus indometacin combination. These results show that the mandarin fish in spawning period secrete a sex-mutruation assosiated hormones and gonadotropin-releasing -inhibiting factor(GRIF).

  • Soils in agricultural lands contain large amount of organic matter and nutrients due to the injected fertilizers and manure. During heavy rain, surface water and base runoff pollutants flows into a nearby stream or lake with eroded soil from agricultural lands. On the other hands, agricultural lands near the lake are inundated due to the increase of the water level in the lake, leading to organic matter and nutrient release from the inundated soil. In this study, releasing rates of nutrient salts and organic substances were analyzed for the soil in the agricultural land, where cultivation activities has been carried out and periodically flooded, to account for the possibility of contamination from the inundated agricultural land in reservoir areas The experiment results have shown that COD was released from the soil in anaerobic conditions, and T-P was released in both anaerobic and aerobic conditions. However, in the case of T-N, it was found that the runoff by soil was not made before the rainfall occurred, and when the soil was impound due to rainfall, the elution occurred under the aerobic conditions. Through the results of this study, it was possible to account for the effect of flooded agricultural lands on the water quality in the lake, and this could be reflected in an efficient agricultural non-point pollution management policy. In order to determine the precise releasing rate for each agricultural land, it is believed that the leaching experiment for paddy fields and grasslands are needed.
