This study was performed to investigate the effect of low power laser irradiation on Substance P(SP) expression in the burned skin of the rats. Burns of about 3cm in diameter were created with $75^{\cric}C$ water on the back of the rats, and the lesion of experimental group were irradiated on days 1, 2, 3 and 4 postwounding. Control leasions were not irradiated. After burns, low power laser irradiation was applied by using 1000Hz, 830nm GaAlAs(Gallium-aluminum-arsenide) semiconductor diode laser. The expression of evaluated Substance P(SP) immunohistochemistry on rabbit anti-SP The results of this study wereas follows 1. The Substance P was expressed in the lamina I and II of dorsal horn of spinal cord. In expression of SP, the lesion of control group made SP to more induce significantly than experimental leasions. 2. SP immunoreactivity in burned leasion of spinal cord were decreased markedly 4 days after burns, and decreased gradually from 1 day to 2 days in burns which is laser irradiation These data suggest that low power laser have a pain release effect in the burned skin of the rats.

Protein kinase C (PKC) isozymes, a family of serine-threonine kinases, are important regulators of cell proliferation and malignant transformation. Phorbol esters, the prototype PKC activators, cause PKC translocation to the plasma membrane in prostate cancer cells, and trigger an apoptotic response. Studies in recent years have determined that each member of the PKC family exerts different effects on apoptotic or survival pathways. $PKC{\delta}$, one of the novel PKCs, is a key player of the apoptotic response via the activation of the p38 MAPK pathway. Studies using RNAi revealed that depletion of $PKC{\delta}$ totally abolishes the apoptotic effect of the phorbol ester PMA. Activation of the classical $PKC{\alpha}$ promotes the dephosphorylation and inactivation of the survival kinase Akt. Studies have assigned a pro-survival role to $PKC{\varepsilon}$, but the function of this PKC isozyme remains controversial. Recently, it has been determined that the PKC apoptotic effect in androgen-dependent prostate cancer cells is mediated by the autocrine secretion of death factors. $PKC{\delta}$ stimulates the release of $TNF{\alpha}$ from the plasma membrane, and blockade of $TNF{\alpha}$ secretion or $TNF{\alpha}$ receptors abrogates the apoptotic response of PMA. Molecular analysis indicates the requirement of the extrinsic apoptotic cascade via the activation of death receptors and caspase-8. Dissecting the pathways downstream of PKC isozymes represents a major challenge to understanding the molecular basis of phorbol ester-induced apoptosis.

Automotive manufacturers have recently developed various technologies for improving fuel economy and satisfying enhanced emission regulations. The ultra-lean direct injection engine is a promising technology because it has the advantage of improving thermal efficiency through the deliberate control of ignition. A conventional LPG engine has been redesigned to an ultra-lean-burn LPG direct injection engine in order to adopt combustion system of ultra-lean-burn. This study is aimed at investigating the effect of a change in the compression ratio on the performance and emission characteristics of a lean-burn LPG engine. The fuel consumption, heat release rate, combustion pressure, and emission characteristics are estimated depending on changing the effect of compression ratio. When the compression ratio is increased, it is difficult to improve the fuel consumption owing to an unstable combustion state, but the total hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxide emissions are reduced.

Hence, AMCT groups therapy is most effect able for pain reduction with lateral epicondylitis patients.
Cordyceps militaris (CM) has been used as a tonics in the traditional medicine. To investigate the anti-diabetic principle of CM, activity guided fractionation was conducted. Hot water extract of CM was fractionated into 3 parts: above 100,000(A), $100,000{\sim}20,000(B)$, below 20,000(C) in molecular weight using in membrane filter system. All fractions showed mild hypoglycemic activity in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats by oral administration (300 mg/kg). The fraction C which was most active among them was fractionated again into two parts, C-1 and C-2 by Sephadex LH 20 column chromatography. The fraction C-1 showed hypoglycemic activity but C-2 did not show activity compared with control in STZ mice. In glucose-fed hyperglycemic mice, fraction C, C-1 and C-2 also showed significant glucose lowering activity. Their decreasing rates of plasma glucose level after 1 hours administrations of fraction C, C-1 and C-2 were 24.5%, 29.3% and 22.0%, respectively (Tolbutamide: 48.4%). These results suggested that CM has both insulin like and insulin release promoting activity and could be developed as an antidiabetic agent.

We attempted to determine the action target of Shiitake mushroom extract with a known anti-hyperlipidemic effect in poloxamer(P) 407-induced hyperlipidemia model. We investigated the anti-hyperlipidemic effects of the water extract from Shiitake mushroom on the progress of high fat diet for 4 weeks. Experimental rats were divided into 5 different experimental groups including an normal group (normal diet; n=10), control group (hyperlipidemia; n=10), Experimental group I (hyperlipidemic rats treated with Shiitake mushroom extract (100 mg/kg, PO), n=10), Experimental group II (hyperlipidemic rats treated with Shiitake mushroom extract (300 mg/kg, PO), n=10), and Experimental group III (hyperlipidemic rats treated with Shiitake mushroom extract (500 mg/kg, PO), n=10). It is to analysis changes in body weight, visceral fat weight, blood lipid profiles, HMG-CoA reductase and histological findings. Body weight and epididymal fat weight was not significantly change in experimental groups (p>0.05). The level of total cholesterol, TG, arthrogenic index, and HMG-CoA reductase were significantly lower in experimental groups than control group (p<0.05). These results suggested that the Shiitake mushroom extract administration may act by inhibitory the release of cholesterol related factors and HMG-CoA from the hepatocyte without liver and kidney cell damage in hyperlipidemia rats.
The present laboratory investigation was conducted to assess the effect of heavy metals on carbon mineralization. Soil was treated with three concentrations (50, 100 and $150{\mu}mol\;g^{-1}$ soil) of two heavy metals (Cd and Zn) in a factorial combination of treatments replicated four times. Determination of carbon mineralization was carried out at 3, 7, 14, 21, 28, 42 and 56 days after metal treatments.. The amount of $CO_2$-C released from heavy metal treated soils was found to be decreased at an increasing rate during the first 28 days, followed by slow release as incubation progressed. The total amounts of $CO_2$-C released were 448, 382 and $348mg\;kg^{-1}$ soil respectively for soils treated with 50, 100 and $150{\mu}mol\;g^{-1}$ soil of Zn. The corresponding figures for Cd treated soils were 406, 354 and $282mg\;kg^{-1}$ soil implying that dose-dependent reduction in cumulative $CO_2$-C released from soils. The inhibition of carbon mineralization was found to be high in Cd treated soils than that of Zn treated. Therefore, tolerance and adaptation of the microbial community is likely to be related to the concentration and the type of metal. According to the results, carbon mineralization can be considered as possible indicator of soil pollution by means of heavy metals.

This study was intended to clarify (1) the release of free formaldehyde (2) transfer of free formaldehyde to the contacted fabrics during storing, and (3) the removal effect of free formaldehyde by washing from resin finished fabrics. The results of this study were as follow; 1. The decrease rate of free formaldehyde content in fabrics was higher during storing in open air, poly bag, and glass tube in descending order and the content of free formaldehyde in fabrics was decreased in glyoxal resin finished but, increased in Melamine M-3 resin finished when the fabrics was stored in polybag and in glass tube. 2. Increased amount of formaldehyde transfer to contacted fabrics was noted with Melamine M-3 resin finished than that of glyoxal resin finished. Increased amount of formaldehyde transfer as well as more free formaldehyde were noted in cotton fabrics than in polyester/ cotton blend. 3. The effect of removing free formaldehyde from the fabrics was better in case of solid alkaline soap, synthetic alkaline powdered detergents, neutral detergents in descending order. The romoval of free formaldehyde was marked after the 1st washing and almost no increase in free formaldehyde was found after three times of washing. 4. After first washing, the content of formaldehyde in Melamine M-3 resin finished fabrics increased more rapidly than that of glyoxal resin finished fabrics in condition of closed storing.
Objective: This study evaluated the effect of acid whey and freeze-dried cranberries on the physicochemical characteristics, lipid oxidation and fatty acid composition of nitrite-free fermented sausage made from deer meat and pork fat. Antioxidant interactions between acid whey and cranberry compounds were also explored. Methods: Four formulations of fermented venison sausage were prepared: F1 (control), F2 (with 5% liquid acid whey), F3 (with 0.06% of freeze-dried cranberries), and F4 (with 5% liquid acid whey and 0.06% of freeze-dried cranberries). Each sample was analyzed for pH, water activity ($a_w$), heme iron content, 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) value and conjugated dienes at the end of the manufacturing process and at 30 and 90 days of refrigerated storage. Fatty acid composition was measured once at the end of the manufacturing process. Results: At the end of ripening, all samples presented statistically different values for a pH range of 4.47 to pH 4.59. The sum of the unsaturated fatty acids was higher, while the conjugated diene and the TBARS values were lower in sausages with freeze-dried cranberries as compared to the control sausage. The highest content of heme iron (21.52 mg/kg) at day 90 was found in the sausage formulation with the addition of freeze-dried cranberries, which suggests that the addition of cranberries stabilized the porphyrin ring of the heme molecule during storage and thereby reduced the release of iron. The use of liquid acid whey in combination with cranberries appears to not be justified in view of the oxidative stability of the obtained products. Conclusion: The results suggest that the application of freeze-dried cranberries can lower the intensity of oxidative changes during the storage of nitrite-free fermented sausage made

Acer tegmentosum Maxim (AT) is a species of the maple genus, which is native to North-Eastern China and Korea. Traditionally, AT has been already used for pain relief in Korea. On the other hand, its antidepressant-like activity and related molecular mechanisms is not completely understood. Using the Forced Swimming Test (FST), the effects of a subacute treatment with AT(100, 200, and 400 mg/kg, p.o.) on the immobility and FST-induced changes to the immune parameters, cortisol, ACTH, and cytokine, in rats were investigated. The tendency of immobility showed a dose-dependent decrease in FST. The levels of cortisol, IL-6 and $IL-1{\beta}$ in the peripheral blood were increased significantly after FST exposure. Overall, these results suggest that AT treatment can decrease the immobility time and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the FST, suggesting that the anti-inflammatory effects of AT might be involved in the antidepressant-like effect.
