  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of infrared and visible light laser irradiation on cell viability of human gingival fibroblast. For the present study, the author used cultured fibroblast originated from sound gingiva which were fifth of sixth passage. Laser machine utilized here were stomalaser which irradiate infrared (GaAs diode) and red (HeNe) laser in turn with pulse wave pattern or continuous wave pattern, and the machine had several frequency mode presented by regeneration, relaxation and analgesic modalities. Cultured fibroblast samples were divided by this modalities of cell counts and laser exposure time which were 7-seconds of 150 seconds, respectively. 1 day after laser irradiation, each cell-well was treated with MTT and measured optical density with ELISA. The obtained results were as follows : 1. There was a tendency of increasing optical density in proportion to irradiation time in groups of $1\times10^4$ cell per well but in groups of $5\times10^3$ cell per well, reverse phenomena were observed. 2. The difference of optical density according to frequency modalities were not showed significantly except several cases in groups of $5\times10^3$ cell per well. 3. In general, cell viability of cultured human gingival fibroblast wer not showed consistent feature by low level laser irradiation.

  • This paper considers a fully coupled 3D BEM-FEM analysis for the ship structural hydroelasticity problem in waves. Fluid flows and structural responses are analyzed by using a 3D Rankine panel method and a 3D finite element method, respectively. The two methods are fully coupled in the time domain using a fixed-point iteration scheme, and a relaxation scheme is applied for improve convergence. In order to validate the developed method, numerical tests are carried out for a barge model. The computed natural frequency, motion responses, and time histories of stress are compared with the results of the beam-based hydroelasticity program, WISH-FLEX, which was thoroughly validated in previous studies. This study extends to a real-ship application, particularly the springing analysis for a 6500 TEU containership. Based on this study, it is found that the present method provides reliable solutions to the ship hydroelasticity problems.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the human error of bodyguards caused in the process of performing access control activities between security missions, focusing on multiple risk cases, and to suggest countermeasures accordingly. To verify this, after arranging the sequence of events in a time series, the VTA technique and Why-Why analysis technique that can easily identify the problem centered on the variable node were used. In addition, environmental factors and personal factors that cause human errors were extracted through M-SHEL Metrix. As a result of analyzing multiple risk cases through such a method, the security environment factors that cause access control accidents include lack of time (impatience), prejudice against visitors, intensive work methods, lack of security management, unattended travel, and familiar atmosphere. (Relaxation), formal work activities, convenience provision, and underestimation were surveyed. In addition, human errors caused by personal security guards were investigated as low alertness, formal work, negligence of inspection, and comfortable coping.

  • The pregnancy rate in indigenous ewes inseminated with frozen-thawed Suffolk semen following natural and synchronized estrus was determined. The serum Progesterone and Estrogen concentration and vaginal electrical resistance (VER) of ewes at the time of Artificial Insemination (AI) were observed as successful pregnancy determinants. 21 healthy ewes were selected for this experiment during January-April, 2017. 10 ewes were inseminated in natural estrus. Whereas, 11 ewes were inseminated after estrus synchronization using intravaginal sponges containing 60 mg medroxyprogesterone acetate. Trans-cervical Al (TCAI) was performed in all ewes within 12-16 hours of observed heat. Prostaglandin E1 analogue impregnated vaginal sponge was used for cervical relaxation 6-8 hours before insemination. Pregnancy was diagnosed through trans-abdominal ultrasonography after 40 days of AI. The pregnancy rate of ewes in synchronized estrus was higher (54.5%) than in natural estrus (30%). Higher serum Progesterone level (0.90 ± 0.02 ng/mL) and significantly (p < 0.001) lower VER (257.78 ± 10.11 ohm) were observed at the time of AI in ewes becoming pregnant. Results suggest that higher Progesterone concentration and lower VER could be considered as pregnancy indicators. Oestrous synchronization could be implemented to increase the pregnancy rate in ewes.

  • The turbulent shear flaw around a surface-mounted vertical wall was investigated using the two-frame PIV(CACTUS 3.1) system. From this study, it is revealed that at least 500 instantaneous velocity field data are required for ensemble average to get reliable turbulence statistics, but only 200 field data are sufficient for the time-averaged mean velocity information The flow has an unsteady recirculation region post vertical wall with bottom gap, followed by a slow relaxation to the fiat-plate boundary layer flow. The time-averaged reattachment length estimated from the streamline distribution is about x/H=3H. The large eddy structure in the separated shear layer seems to have signification influence on the development of the separated shear layer and the reattachment process.

  • The thermal properties and crystallization behaviors of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were investigated by controlling the annealing conditions of PET sample, such as relative humidity, temperature, and time. The variations of moisture content, glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and cold crystallization temperature ($T_{\propto}$) were examined after annealing the PET sample. Subsequently crystallization process was performed with the annealed PET specimen, and then the degree of crystallinity and heat distortion temperature (HDT) of variously crystallized PET specimen were examined. Residual stress relaxation in the injection molded PET sample after annealing was also observed through polarized films. Moisture content in the PET specimen increased up to 6000 ppm with increasing the relative humidity, temperature, and time of annealing. $T_g$ and $T_{\propto}$ of the annealed PET specimen decreased with increasing moisture content. The degree of crystallinity increased as increasing moisture content in the PET specimen. However for same moisture content, the degree of crystallinity varied with annealing conditions. The relaxations of residual stress in the PET sample differed from annealing conditions, and the maximum degree of crystallinity increased with decreasing residual stress in the PET sample.

  • Fe-6Al-9Si(N) alloy powders were synthesized by hybrid process of chemical nitrification and mechanical milling. The nitriding treatment on Fe-6Al-9Si alloy powders formed $\gamma'-Fe_4N$ phase on the powders surface. The nitriding-treated powders were pulverized by horizontal high-energy ball milling machine. The longer ball milling time tended to reduce the size of alloy powders. In ball milling for 36h, extremely fine powders with about $7\~9wt\%$ nitrogen were obtained. Through X-ray diffraction analysis on the powders, it was found out that the longer milling time caused a disappearance of the crystallinity of $\alpha-Fe$ in the powders. TEM study confirmed that the powders is comprised of a few tens nano-meter sized crystals, including $\alpha-Fe$ phase with partially $\gamma'-Fe_4N$ phase. Hysteresis curves of the synthesized powders measured by VSM revealed lower saturation magnetization and higher coercivity, which seemed to be attributed to nitrogen-impregnation and severe residual stress developed during the high energy milling. Microstructure observation on the powder annealed at 873 K for 1 h showed 10 to 20 nm sized $\alpha-Fe$ crystal. Such a enhanced crystallinity significantly increased the magnetization and decreased the coercivity, which was attributed to not only the crystallinity but also residual stress relaxation.

  • The shrinkage of polymer concrete overlays to cement concrete causes interface shear, normal and axial stresses in the overlays. These can lead to deterioration of the polymer concrete overlays due to affection of adhesion polymer concrete and cement concrete. The shrinkage stress in the polymer concrete cause it to shorten and the shorting is measured: With the modulus of elasticity of the polymer concrete and strain known the stresses can be calculated. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data of application of polymer concrete overlays such as bridge decks, highway and airport pavement repair and overlay materials. From the test results. It has been found that depending on the type polymer. overlay thickness, time after curing and temperature. the shrinkage stresses are eliminated by relaxation in time ranging from a few hours to a few days.

  • The generation and collection of cigarette smoke (CS) is a prerequisite for any toxicology study on smoking, especially an in vitro CS exposure study. In this study, the effects on blood and vascular function were tested with two widely used CS preparations to compare the biological effects of CS with respect to the CS preparation used. CS was prepared in the form of total particulate matter (TPM), which is CS trapped in a Cambridge filter pad, and cigarette smoke extract (CSE), which is CS trapped in phosphate-buffered saline. TPM potentiated platelet reactivity to thrombin and thus increased aggregation at a concentration of $25{\sim}100{\mu}g/mL$, whereas 2.5~10% CSE decreased platelet aggregation by thrombin. Both TPM and CSE inhibited vascular contraction by phenylephrine at $50{\sim}100{\mu}g/mL$ and 10%, respectively. TPM inhibited acetylcholine-induced vasorelaxation at $10{\sim}100{\mu}g/mL$, but CSE exhibited a minimal effect on relaxation at the concentration that affects vasoconstriction. Neither TPM nor CSE induced hemolysis of erythrocytes or influenced plasma coagulation, as assessed by prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). Taken together, CS affects platelet activity and deteriorates vasomotor functions in vitro. However, the effect on blood and blood vessels may vary depending on the CS preparation. Therefore, the results of experiments conducted with CS preparations should be interpreted with caution.

  • After preparing carbon-doped FePt films by dc magnetron sputtering, we observed ultrafast demagnetization and its recovery by means of a time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect technique. We confirm that the degree of $L1_0$ ordering is decreased and coercivity is changed, as the carbon concentration increases. All samples are demagnetized within ~5 ps after the femtosecond laser pulse heated the sample. Interestingly, ultrafast relaxation time, which indicates fast magnetization recovery, increases as the carbon concentration increases due to the low spin-orbit coupling of carbon.
