A geometrically nonlinear finite element formulation of spatial cable networks is presented using two cable elements. Firstly, derivation procedures of tangent stiffness and mass matrices for the space truss element and the elastic catenary cable element are summarized. The load incremental method based on Newton-Raphson iteration method and the dynamic relaxation method are presented in order to determine the initial static state of cable nets subjected to self-weights and support motions. Furthermore, static non-linear analysis of cable structures under additional live loads are performed based on the initial configuration. Challenging example problems are presented and discussed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the present finite element method and investigate static nonlinear behaviors of cable nets.

Ground subsidence mainly occurs due to the soil wash-away caused by cracked sewer pipes. It is necessary to understand the behavior surrounding soils with the formation of cavity and relaxation zone to set up counterplan. In this paper, a series of laboratory model tests and numerical analyses (Discrete Element Method) were performed to investigate the ground subsidence mechanism due to sewer pipe damage. For model tests, aluminum rod and trap door were used to simulate the behavior of model ground. Test results were compared with the numerical analyses conducted under the same boundary conditions with model tests. From this study, it was investigated the shape and size of cavity and relaxation zone due to the soil wash-away and a void ratio distribution of surrounding soils with relaxation properties.
A mathematical model of viscoelasticity on the material property of human pharyngeal tissue utilizing Y.C. Fung's Quasi-linear viscoelastic theory is proposed based on cyclic load, stress relaxation, incremental load, and uniaxial tensile load tests. The material properties are characterized and compared with other biological materials' results. The mathematical model is proposed by combining two characteristic functions determined from the stress relaxation and uniaxial tensile load tests. The reduced stress relaxation function G(t) and elastic response function S(t) are obtained from stress relaxation test and uniaxial tensile load test results respectively. Then the model describing stress-time history of the tissue is implemented utilizing two functions. The proposed model is evaluated and validated by comparing the model's cyclic behaviour with experimental results. The model data could be utilized as an important information for constructing 3-dimensional biomechanical model of human pharynx using FEM(Finite Element Method).

We proposed the regularized iterative restoration method considering relaxation parameter and regularization paramenter in order to restore the noisy motion-blurred images. We used (i-H) as a regularization operator and these two kinds of constraints were applied while conventional regularization iterative restoration method proposed by Jan Biemond et al used the 2-D Laplacian filter and a predetermined regularization parameter value and relaxation parameter to 1. Through the experimental results, we showed better results compared with those by a conventional method and or regularized iterative restoration method just considering only a regularization parameter. These two kinds of constratints have good effects when applied into the regularized iterative restoration method for noisy motion-blurred images.

Recent attempt to enhance the safety against collision reshaped the simple shell structures into the integrated complex shell structures. Moreover, due to various regulations continuously tightened for environment protection, weight reduction of automobiles becomes an increasingly important issue. Auto parts lightening is mainly accomplished by more reasonable design, adoption of lighter materials and miniaturization of the auto bodies. Focusing on the locally enhanced design approach among the above three ways, we here attempt to develop a patching optimization method, and also to determine the thicknesses of an integrated shell structure, both bringing a specified amount of stress relaxation. We first select a cross member as a patching optimization model. Based on the finite element stress calculations, we relieve the stress of cross member by patching in two ways-nonuniform thickness patching and optimized uniform thickness patching, the latter of which is more effective in a practical point of view for the preset amount of stress relaxation. Selecting a box type subframe as another finite element analysis model, we then determine the thickness of each part by axiomatic design approach for a preset amount of stress relaxation. The patching methodology and the axiomatic approach adopted in this work can be applied to the other complex shell structures such as center member and lower control arm.
Purpose: This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of progressive muscle relaxation training using biofeedback on perceived stress, stress response, immune response and climacteric symptoms, Method: This was a crossover, pre-post test design, The study subjects are 36 middle-aged women who were selected at 2 public health centers, The independent variable was Biofeedback training for 4 weeks, twice a week and home training for 4 weeks, Dependent variables were perceived stress, stress response, immune response, and climacteric symptoms measured with Hildtch's scale (1996), Result: Progressive muscle relaxation training using biofeedback was not effective in reducing perceived stress, but it was shown to be effective in reducing physiological stress responses such as pulse rate and EMG, Though blood pressure and skin conductance were repeatedly down, and skin temperature slowly increased, there were no statistically significant differences. Progressive muscle relaxation training using biofeedback was not effective in reducing serum cortisol, enhancing immune responses, or decreasing climacteric symptoms. Conclusion: The findings point to a pressing need for further, well-controlled and designed research with consideration in selection of subjects and instruments, frequency of measurements, the sampling method, and intervention modalities.

Efficient numerical finite element analysis of creeping concrete structures requires the use Kelvin or Maxwell chain model, which is most conveniently identified from a continuous retardation or relaxation spectrum, the spectrum in turn being determined from the given compliance or relaxation function. The method of doing that within the context of solidification theory for creep with aging was previously worked out by Bazant and Xi, but only for the case of a continuous retardation spectrum based on Kelvin chain. The present paper is motivated by the need to incorporate concrete creep into the recently published microplane model M4 for nonlinear triaxial behavior of concrete, including tensile fracturing and behavior under compression. In that context. the Maxwell chain is more effective than Kelvin chain. because of the kinematic constraint of the microplanes used in M4. Determination of the continuous relaxation spectrum for Maxwell chain. based on the solidification theory, is outlined and numerical examples are presented.

The study on query relaxation which provides approximate answers has received attention. In recent years, some arguments have been made that semantic relationships are useful to present the relationships among data values and calculating the semantic distance between two data values can be used as a quantitative measure to express relative distance. The aim of this article is a hierarchical metricized knowledge abstraction (HiMKA) with an emphasis on combining data abstraction hierarchy and distance measure among data values. We propose the operations and the query relaxation algorithm appropriate to the HiMKA. With various experiments and comparison with other method, we show that the HiMKA is very useful for the quantified approximate query answering and our result is to offer a new methodological framework for query relaxation.

Maxwell displacement current (MDC) measurement has been employed to study the dielectric property of Langmuir-films. A method for determining the dielectric relaxation time $\tau$ of floating monolayers on water surface is presented. WC flowing across monolayers is analyzed using a rod-like molecular model. It is revealed that the dielectric relaxation time $\tau$ of monolayers in the isotropic polar orientational phase is determined using a liner relationship between the monolayer compression speed ${\alpha}$ and the molecular area Am. Compression speed ${\alpha}$ was about 30, 40, 50mm/min.
