  • The $Co_{90}Fe_{10}$ single layer films were deposited on various substrates (glass, Si, polymide) using high vacuum RF magnetron sputtering system and nominall 1000 $\AA$ thick $Co_{90}Fe_{10}$ alloy films had a good high frequency characteristic. $M_S$ and $H_{an}$ values obtained from the B-H characteristic of the $10{\times}[100 nm \;Co_{90}Fe_{10}/100 nm\; SiO_2]$ multilayers agreed well with those obtained by calculation. Complex relative permeability $(={\{\mu}_r={\mu}_r',-j{\mu}$\mu$_r")$ at frequency f was measured from the transmission characteristics $(S_{11},\; S_{21}\;parameters)$ of the microstrip line which has a stacked structure consisting of sample magnetic films and a conductor and is connected to a network analyzer. The ${\mu}_r'-f$ characteristic was abtained from the megnetic absorption, which was analyzed from the S-parameter characteristics of the microstrip line. The ${\mu}_r'-f$ characteristic was also calculated from the ${\mu}_r"-f$-f characteristic using the Kramers-Kronig relation. The measurement results were confirmed to agree well with those obtained by calculations.culations.

  • The geological factors for causing ground subsidence are very diverse. It can be affected by any geological or extrinsic influences, and even within the same geological factor, the soil depression impact factor can be determined by different physical properties. As a result of reviewing a large number of papers and case histories, it can be seen that there are seven categories of ground subsidence factors. The depth and thickness of the overburden can affect the subsidence depending on the existence of the cavity, whereas the depth and orientation of the boundary between soil and rock are dominant factors in the ground composed of soil and rock. In case of soil layers, more various influencing factors exist such as type of soil, shear strength, relative density and degree of compaction, dry unit weight, water content, and liquid limit. The type of rock, distance from the main fracture and RQD can be influential factors in the bedrock. When approaching from the hydrogeological point of view, the rainfall intensity, the distance and the depth from the main channel, the coefficient of permeability and fluctuation of ground water level can influence to ground subsidence. It is also possible that the ground subsidence can be affected by external factors such as the depth of excavation and distance from the earth retaining wall, groundwater treatment methods at excavation work, and existence of artificial facilities such as sewer pipes. It is estimated that to evaluate the ground subsidence factor during the construction of underground structures in urban areas will be essential. It is expected that ground subsidence factors examined in this study will contribute for the reliable evaluation of the ground subsidence risk.

  • Rainfall, evaporation, and permeability of water are the most important factors in determining the demand of water. The Daegu area has only a meteorologi observatory and there is not sufficient data for adapting the advanced method for derivation of the estimated of evaporation in the Daegu area. However, by using available data, the writer devoted his great effort in deriving the most reasonable formula applicable to the Daegu area and it is adaptable for various purposes such as industry and estimation of groundwater etc. The data used in this study was the monthly amount of evaporation of the Daegu area for the past 13 years(1960 to 1970). A year can be divided into two groups by relative degrees of evaporation in this area: the first group (less evaporation) is January, February, March, October, November, and December, and the second (more evaporation) is April, May, June, July, August, and September. The amount of evaporation of the two groups were statistically treated by the theory of probability for derivation of estimated formula of evaporation. The formula derved is believed to fully consider. The characteristic hydrological environment of this area as the following shows: log(x+3)=0.8963+0.1125$\xi$..........(4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 month) log(x-0.7)=0.2051+0.3023$\xi$..........(1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12 month) This study obtained the above formula of probability of the monthly evaporation of this area by using the relation: $F_(x)=\frac{1}{{\surd}{\pi}}\int\limits_{-\infty}^{\xi}e^{-\xi2}d{\xi}\;{\xi}=alog_{\alpha}({\frac{x_0+b'}{x_0+b})\;(-b<x<{\infty})$ $$log(x_0+b)=0.80961$ $$\frac{1}{a}=\sqrt{\frac{2N}{N-1}}\;Sx=0.1125$$ $$b=\frac{1}{m}\sum\limits_{i-I}^{m}b_s=3.14$$ $$S_x=\sqrt{\frac{1}{N}\sum\limits_{i-I}^{N}\{log(x_i+b)\}^2-\{log(x_i+b)\}^2}=0.0791$$ (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 month) This formula may be advantageously applied to estimation of evaporation in the Daegu area. Notation for general terms has been denoted by following: $W_(x)$: probability of occurance. $$W_(x)=\int_x^{\infty}f(x)dx$$ P : probability $$P=\frac{N!}{t!(N-t)}{F_i^{N-{\pi}}(1-F_i)^l$$ $$F_{\eta}:\; Thomas\;plot\;F_{\eta}=(1-\frac{n}{N+1})$$ $X_l\;X_i$: maximun, minimum value of total number of sample size(other notation for general terms was used as needed)

  • Permeate flux decline in a microfiltration was analyzed by measuring the permeability of bentonite colloidal solution through polyethylene capillary membranes. The flux decline with time was due to the growth of cake layer on the membrane surface and to the pore blocking by particles. As the time approaches to steady state, the permeate flux is almost controlled by the cake filtration model. Faster flux decline at high trans-membrane pressure was attributed to the formation of denser packed cake layer and pore blocking. The ratio of permeate flux to the initial permeate flux, J/J₁, decreased with increasing the trans-membrane pressure, from 45% for 0.5 kg/sub f//㎠ to 38% for 2.0 kg/sub f//㎠. In comparing the ratio of each fouling component to the total fouling for the 0.5 kg/sub f//㎠ TMP condition, complete blocking was 23.4%, standard blocking was about 14.6% and cake filtration was 62.0%, respectively. Permeate flux through the membrane increases with cross flow velocity, and the effect of the variation of velocity is more significant at 1.0 kg/sub f//㎠ rather than at 2.0 kg/sub f//㎠ of the operation pressure. Permeate flux for the membrane having the average pore diameter of 0.34 ㎛ was higher than that for the membrane of 0.24 ㎛ pore size, with the higher flux with the low concentration of feed. On the operation using the membrane of 0.34 ㎛ pore, the pore blocking in the low concentration of 200 ppm is negligible relative to the pore blocking in the 1000 ppm feed.

  • Electromagnetic wave asorbing properties of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$, where X was replaced by substitution elements Cu, Mg, Mn, have been studied. The structure, shape, size and magnetic properties of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$ were analyzed by XRD, SEM, VSM. The relative complex permittivity, permeability, and electromagnetic wave absorbing properties were measured by Network Analyzer. The structure, shape, size and magnetization value of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$ were found to be similar in spite of substitution elements. The coercive force and hysteresis-loss showed maximum value when Mg was substituted for X. The dielectric loss(${\varepsilon}_r"/{\varepsilon}_r'$) was found to be maximum value when Mn was substituted for X. Also the magnetic loss(${\mu}_r"/{\mu}_r'$} was found to be maximum with Cu substitution. The electromagnetica wave absorbing property of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$-Rubber composite with 4mm thickness was excellent as over - 40dB at 9GHz, and the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$-Rubber composite with 8mm thickness was over-40dB at 2GHz. Those composites also showed superior microwave absorbing properties.

  • The Fenton reaction, which evaluates the electrochemical durability of polymer membranes of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEMFC), and the degradation of polymer membranes by OCV holding method are compared. The Fenton reaction is a method that can evaluate the chemical durability of the polymer membrane at outside the cell in a shorter time than the OCV Holding method. The Fenton reaction was carried out at 30% hydrogen peroxide, 10 ppm iron, and $80^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. OCV Holding was driven at $90^{\circ}C$, 30% relative humidity and OCV for 168 hours. The Fenton reaction caused a lot of degradation inside the polymer membrane. On the other hand, in OCV Holding, the membrane thickness was thinned by the entire surface and internal degradation. The fluorine emission rate was more than 10 times higher than that of OCV Holding due to the Fenton reaction. The hydrogen permeation rate increased about 30% at 24 hours of Fenton reaction. At OCV Holding, hydrogen permeability decreased after 24 hours and then increased. As a whole, there was a difference in a membranes deteriorated by Fenton reaction and OCV Holding.

  • Durability is very important for the commercialization of membranes and electrode assemblies (MEA) developed for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). Durability evaluation of stationary PEMFC MEA has a problem that the voltage change rate should be measured for a long time over 1000 hours under constant current conditions. In this study, the electrochemical durability evaluation protocol of membranes (OCV holding method) using to vehicle MEAs was applied to the stationary MEA for the purpose of shortening the durability evaluation time. After operation of the stationary and automobile MEA for 168 hours under conditions of OCV, cathode oxygen, $90^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of 30%, I-V, LSV, CV, impedance and FER were measured and compared. When the hydrogen permeability, OCV change, ionic conductivity, and fluorine flow rate, which represent the durability of the membrane after degradation, were all examined, it was shown that durability of stationary MEA membrane was better than that of vehicles MEA membrane. In addition, the electrode degradation of stationary MEA was smaller than that of vehicles MEA after degradation operation. It was possible to evaluate in a short time using automotive protocol that the durability of stationary MEA was superior that of vehicle MEA in terms of membrane and the electrode.

  • This study was conducted to improve the membrane characteristics and performance by increasing hydrophilicity by adding additives to the ultrafiltration polysulfone (PSf) hollow fiber membrane. The mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) were prepared by dispersing 15 nm of fumed silica (FS) in the spinning solution at 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 wt%. SEM analysis was carried out to confirm the cross-section and surface condition. It was confirmed that mean pore radius of the hollow fiber increased by 4 nm as FS was added. In addition, contact angle measurement was carried out for the hydrophilicity analysis of hollow fiber membranes, and it was confirmed that the hydrophilicity of MMMs were increased by adding of FS. In the case of water permeability, the membrane including FS showed 91~96 LMH and showed 5~11% more increase than PSf membrane. In the antifouling performance test, relative flux reduction ratios of FS mixed hollow fiber membranes were lower than that of PSf membranes, and it was confirmed that increase of hydrophilicity hinders adsorption of hydrophobic BSA on the membrane surface.

  • Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS) is produced in the manufacture process of pig-iron and shows a similar particle formation to that of natural sea sand and also shows light weight, high shear strength, well permeability, and especially has a latent hydraulic property by which GBFS is solidified with time. Therefore, when GBFS is used as a backfill material of quay or retaining walls, the increase of shear strength induced by the hardening is presumed to reduce the earth pressure and consequently the construction cost of harbor structures decreases. In this study, using the model sand box (50 cm$\times$50 cm$\times$100 cm), the model wall tests were carried out on GBFS and Toyoura standard sand, in which the resultant earth pressure, a wall friction and the earth pressure distribution at the movable wall surface were measured. In the tests, the relative density was set as Dr=25, 55 and 70% and the wall was rotated at the bottom to the active earth pressure side and followed by the passive side. The maximum horizontal displacement at the top of the wall was set as ${\pm}2mm$. By these model test results, it is clarified that the resultant earth pressure obtained by using GBFS is smaller than that of Toyoura sand, especially in the active-earth pressure.

  • In order to improve the durability of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), it is important to accurately evaluate the durability of the polymer membrane in a short time. The test conditions for chemically accelerated durability evaluation of membranes are high voltage, high temperature, low humidity, and high gas pressure. It can be said that the protocol is developed by changing these conditions. However, the relative influence of each test condition on the degradation of the membrane has not been studied. In chemical accelerated degradation experiment of the membrane, the influence of 4 factors (conditions) was examined through the factor experiment method. The degree of degradation of the membrane after accelerated degradation was determined by measuring the hydrogen permeability and effluent fluoride ion concentration, and it was possible to determine the degradation order of the polymer membrane under 8 conditions by the difference in fluoride ion concentration. It was shown that the influence of the membrane degradation factor was in the order of voltage > temperature > oxygen pressure > humidity. It was confirmed that the degradation of the electrode catalyst had an effect on the chemical degradation of the membrane.
