  • Purpose - This study is designed to provide new insights on trade claim management by typifying trade claims from a relational perspective, which defines trade as an organic combination that exchanges relationships based on a mutual goal instead of conflicts between obligations and rights of the contracting parties. Design/methodology - This is a phenomenological study that aims to typify trade claims based on a relational perspective and extract implications for trade claim management. The research procedures of this study are as follows. First, international commercial dispute cases applying the CISG are collected. Second, the cases collected are quantified through content analysis. The variables for quantification are developed based on a relationship perspective. Third, cluster analysis is conducted on coded data to typify cases. And finally, this study compares the characteristics of each type using analysis of variance and suggests implications for the strategic management of trade claims from a relational perspective. Findings - Results show that trade claims are divided into four clusters, depending on whether flexibility is accepted or not and which party violates mutuality. There is also a difference between the claimant and the cause of the claim, according to the cluster. Based on the results, this study suggests that the buyer and the seller should employ different strategies depending on the type of trade claim and presents proposals for strategic claim management. Originality/value - Firstly, this study extends the theoretical discussion on trade claims by applying relational contract theory. Prior studies on trade claims have been primarily based on traditional contract theory. The second is to analyze trade claims quantitatively. Prior case studies on trade claims have mainly relied on qualitative research. Finally, the study contributes to international commercial practice by typifying trade claims and presenting options for strategic management.

  • Since smart phones are changing the media for communication and its related mobile market, it is imperative to attract more application developers for success in application store business in order to attract more app users. By using aspects of the commitment marketing theory and the relationship marketing theory, this research study identified factors that influence on the relational commitment of application developers to the market. Survey of application developers from Korean mobile application developers' community was conducted to test the hypothesized model. The empirical results showed from an economic behavioral perspective market demand for applications and perceived usefulness of development tool led to relational commitment of developers mediated by perceived satisfaction while attractiveness of alternatives had no significant effect. In addition, fairness of review process and interactivity, based on the relationship marketing theory perspective, showed significant effect on the relational commitment of developers mediated by trust for application market.

  • The hotel industry needs to make the competitive advantage difficult to be imitated in order to remain sustainable in competitive business circumstances. Front-line employees' service-oriented citizenship behaviors(OCBs) can be such a strength from the perspective of organizational system. With an aim of investigating the antecedents of the hotel front-line employees' service-oriented OCBs, this study proposed a theoretical framework linking authentic leadership to service-oriented OCBs with goal commitment as a mediator. A total of 260 cases without missing values have been used for the final analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) is employed using the SPSS and AMOS 7. It was first found that self-awareness and relational transparency of authentic leadership made a significant impact on their goal commitment while balanced processing and moral perspective failed to influence them. Second. goal commitment influenced all sub-factors of service-oriented OCBs. Third, moral perspective and relational transparency of authentic leadership significantly influenced service-oriented OCBs while self-awareness and relational transparency failed to make it. Finally, goal commitment significantly makes an intervening effect for the relationship between self-awareness & service-oriented OCBs and relational transparency & service-oriented OCBs but failed to intervene the other relationships. The results provide theoretical and practical implications regarding directions of leadership styles and HR management in the hotel industry and suggestions for the further extended studies.

  • In this paper, we drew upon IMP group's Interaction model to investigate the contributing impact of Inter-organizational system (IOS) on performance through enhancing inter-organizational relationship. While most extant literature studied the contribution of IOS from transaction efficiency perspective, the relational aspect of IOS contribution on the supply chain was addressed only by a few researches. As such, we intended to fill this gap of the IOS research stream. The conceptual model was developed, with reference to process theory, to analyze how the relational perspective could be applicable to IOS impact on performance. With the 129 sample data collected at the firm level, structural equation model using the LISREL was employed to validate the proposed research model. The empirical results supported the hypotheses such as the extent of IOS usage positively influences the interaction between the firms, which thereby enhances the extent of inter-firm partnership and performance. The results help better understanding the strategic use of IOS from relationship perspective.

  • This paper proposes relational capability as a main driver of constructing inter-organizational collaboration networks. Based on social network theory and relational view literature, three components of relational capability are constructed and implemented by an agent-based model. The components include organizational capability, structural capability, and trust between a partner and a focal firm. These three components are updated by two micro mechanisms: structural mechanism and relational mechanism. Structural mechanism is a feedback loop in which the relational capability increases structural capability and vice versa. Relational mechanism is a learning-by-doing process in which a focal firm experiences success or failure of collaboration and the experience increases or decreases cumulative trust in a partner firm. Result of agent-based simulation shows that a collaboration network emerges through interactions of firm's relational capabilities and the characteristics of emerged networks vary with the contribution of structural capability and trust to relational capability. Specifically, in case structural capability contributes more to relational capability, the average degree centrality and collaboration proportion increases as time passes and enters into an equilibrium state. In that case, almost every firms participated in the network collaborates each other so that the emerged network becomes highly cohesive. In case trust contributes more to relational capability, the results are reversed. In an equilibrium state, the balance of contribution between structural capability and trust makes an emerged network larger and maximizes average degree centrality of the network.

  • With the proliferation of activity-tracking devices and other smart tools, more users leverage these personal informatics technologies to track their physical and fitness-related activities. The research on the benefits (and limitations) of these devices tends to focus on the use of a single tool, leaving out the interactions among multiple technologies, and how these interactions influence the way users perceive their affordances. Building from an ecological perspective, I extend this research by providing insight into the competitive and complementary relationships among activity tracking devices and other fitness-related and personal informatics technologies within the device ecology of technologies around the user. The affordances of these devices are therefore not enacted in isolation but are relational to understanding of other technological options and differing personal preferences and goals of the user.

  • As the secure distribution and sharing of information over the World Wide Web becomes increasingly important, the needs for flexible and efficient support of access control systems naturally arise. Since the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is emerging as the de-facto standard format of the Internet era for storing and exchanging information, there have been recently, many proposals to extend the XML model to incorporate security aspects. To the lesser or greater extent, however, such proposals neglect the fact that the data for XML documents will most likely reside in relational databases, and consequently do not utilize various security models proposed for and implemented in relational databases. In this paper, we take a rather different approach. We explore how to support security models for XML documents by leveraging on techniques developed for relational databases considering object perspective. More specifically, in our approach, (1) Users make XML queries against the given XML view/schema, (2) Access controls for XML data are specified in the relational database, (3) Data are stored in relational databases, (4) Security check and query evaluation are also done in relational databases, and (5) Controlling access control is executed considering XML tree levels

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the effect of customer relationship management (CRM) on customer's brand loyalty in the holistic perspective of relational benefits, relationship quality and relation value. This paper attempted to find out the psychological process that links the relational benefits and brand loyalty. Methods: The data was collected by using the structured questionnaires to VIP customers and general customers of major domestic banks. The proposed research model is empirically tested using 324 valid questionnaires using SPSS 23 and AMOS 23. Results: This research indicated the partially positive relationship between the relational benefits and relation values, and between relational benefits and relationship quality. The relation value and relationship quality positively affects the relation commitment and the relation commitment also positively affects brand loyalty. This study also shows that the relation value affects the brand loyalty through the mediation of relation commitment, but also the relationship quality affects the brand loyalty through the media of relation commitment. Conclusions: This study investigates the role of perceptional factors(relational value and relationship quality) and affective factors(relation commitment) to find the relationship between relational benefits and brand loyalty. It also suggest the relative influence of relational benefits on relation value.

  • This study explored the buffering effect of family resilience between family stress and adjustment of single parent family based on family resilience approach. Results of the study were as followed: First, single parents who had a lower level of family stress and a higher lever of family resilience reported a higher level of family adjustment. Second, family stress especially economic stress and relational stress influenced negatively on adjustment of single parent family. Family belief system, organizational pattern and communication processes of the three sub-factors of family resilience influenced positively on family adjustment. However the sub-factors of family resilience had more powerful effects than family stress. Third, family belief system, organizational pattern and communication processes of the three sub-factors of family resilience had a moderating effect between family adjustment and psychological stress and between family adjustment and relational stress. Especially the three sub-factors of family resilience had a buffering effect between family adjustment and relational stress. The results of this study had important implication for theory, research, and practice. The study showed that adjustment of single parent family could be significantly explained by family resilience rather than family stress. Accordingly strength perspective-based intervention focused on family resilience would be more effective than deficit perspective-based intervention based on family stress.

  • This work firstly aims to analyse the balance between tangibles and intangibles as well as among human capital, structural capital and relational capital of evaluation indicators for the research institutes in science and technology sector conducted in 2006, by adopting intellectual capital model. The research question of this work comes from that while the R&D activity can produce both tangibles and intangibles, there have no been methodologies to relevantly measure and rationally judge these, in particular, intangible performance. The result shows that the institute evaluation system in 2006 had given more weight on tangibles and structural capital than intangibles and other intellectual capitals such as human capital and relational capital, in comparison to the past evaluation system, even though, in principle, the current evaluation system has to deal with the intangible research performances as well as tangible ones in economic, social and cultural perspective. Finally, based on these analysis, I will try to suggest some policy directions for overcoming the deficits of indicators in institute evaluation system.
