  • Settlement problems in rural area are gradually becoming more intense due to decreasing agricultural income led by market globalization. Rural tourism is considered as one of alternatives for complementing agricultural income. In this study, we analyzed the relation of rural development project and the influx of population on green tourism villages. Results show that the influx of population in rural area is related with project cost, tourism income, visiting numbers, and ratio of labor population. With these results, we modified rural population model for estimating future rural population. Adapted result to Buraemi village by modified model showed that estimation error can be decreased from 7.23% to 0.95%.

  • This paper aims at investigating the dynamics between aging population and local finance. In recent years, the aging rate has been accelerating the pace. The trend implies that Korea is moving towards the aging society, presumably, with unprecedented speed in the world. Aging society's biggest problems are centered around the explosive growth of the financial needs. In particular, these problems are apt to appear more seriously in local governments, as most of them are confronted with high level of aging population and poor financial bases. Firstly, it analyzes how the population structure in the local government impacts local finance, income and expenditure. Based upon in-depth literature reviews, this study examines variables related to aging population and local fiance. Secondly, it focuses on a series of positive and negative feedback loops which would reveal the essence of the mutual interaction structure between aging population and local governments' fiscal behaviors.

  • Purpose: In recent review of physician suicides] the relative risk of physicians is higher than the general population. The majority of physician suicide were by poisoning. The purpose of this study was to analyse the medical personnels with suicide by poisoning compared with the general population. Methods: We reviewed medical records of 15 medical related personnels with suicide by poisoning who visited the emergency medical centers of St. Mary's and Kangnam St. Mary's hospitals from March 1998 to Aug 2004. For the comparison with general population in analysis] the collected data was acquired from medical records of 677 intoxicated patients in St. Mary's Hospital during the same period. Results: Fifteen suicides of physicians (n=7), nurses (n=4), medical students (n=2), pharmacist (n=1) and medical assistant technician (n=1) was evaluated with regard to the method of poisoning. Preferred methods were ingestion of medications orally ($54\%$) and by infusion/injection ($46\%$). The results were compared with the general population group (n=677: oral ingestion of medications $98\%$, inhalation $1.6\%$). Intoxications by infusion/injection predominated more clearly in physicians than in the total collective. Conclusion: Comparing with the general population, the tendency to a method of suicidal poisoning being typical of the profession rises among physicians and related occupations with the degree of specialization, caused by increasing knowledge, easier access to appropriate drugs and methods.

  • Objective : Although traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs in people of all age groups, the elderly population is at a particular risk. The proportion of elderly population in the society is markedly increasing and Korea is one of the most rapidly aging societies. Here, we analyzed the data from 904 patients older over 65 years who were registered in the Korean Neuro-Trauma Data Bank System (KNTDBS). Methods : The Korean Society of Neurotraumatology recorded data from 20 institutions between September 2010 and March 2014. This retrospective study examined the clinical epidemiology, sex difference, outcome epidemiology, sociodemographic variables, and outcomes in the geriatric population related to TBI based on data from the KNTDBS. Results : The study included 540 men and 364 women. The age distributions in the male and female groups were statistically significantly different. The most common cause of trauma was a fall and diagnosis was acute subdural hematoma. The incidence was the highest in men aged 80-84 years and in women aged 75-79 years. The most common time of arrival to hospital after TBI was within 1 hour and 119 rescue team provided first aid earliest to patients with TBI. The mortality rate stratified according to the cause of trauma was significantly different, with mortality rates of 3.77% in fall and 11.65% in traffic accident. The mortality rates according the severity of brain injury, Glasgow Coma Scale score, and treatment were statistically significant. Conclusion : To our knowledge, this study is the first to focus on elderly patients with TBI in Korea and particularly investigate mortality and characteristics related to TBI-related death based on data from the KNTDBS. Although the study has some limitations, our results may be used to obtain useful information to study targeted prevention and more effective treatment options for older TBI patients and establish novel treatment guidelines and health polish for the geriatric population.

  • Water and energy are inextricably linked and referred to as 'Water-Energy Nexus'. Recently, this topic has been drawing a lot of attention from various studies due to the exacerbated water availability. Korea's water and energy consumption has been increasing consistently, which calls for better management. This paper aims to identify changes in electricity consumption in relation to water intake and purification processes. Using Log Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) Decomposition Analysis method, this study attributes the changes to major factors such as; Total population (population effect), household/population (structure effect), GDP/household (economic effect), and water-related energy use/GDP (unit effect). The population effect, structure effect, and economic effect contributed to an increase in water-related electricity consumption, while the unit effect contributed to a decrease. As of 2019, the economic effect increased the water supply sector's electricity consumption by 534 GWh, the population effect increased by 73 GWh, and the structure effect increased by 243 GWh. In contrast, the unit effect decreased the electricity consumption by -461 GWh. We would like to make the following suggestions based on the findings of this study; first, the unit effect must be improved by increasing the energy efficiency of water intake and purification plants and installing renewable energy power generation facilities. Second, the structure effect is expected to increase over time, and to mitigate it, water consumption must be reduced through water conservation policies and the improvement of water facilities. Finally, the findings of this study are expected to be used as foundational data for integrated water and energy management.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the driven factors affecting the changes in energy-related $CO_2$ emissions in Hebei Province of China from 1995 to 2013. This study confirmed that energy-related $CO_2$ emissions are correlated with the population, urbanization level, economic development degree, industry structure, foreign trade degree, technology level and energy proportion through an improved STIRPAT model. A reasonable and more reliable outcome of STIRPAT model can be obtained with the introducing of the Ridge Regression, which shows that population is the most important factor for $CO_2$ emissions in Hebei with the coefficient 2.4528. Rely on these discussions about affect abilities of each driven factors, we conclude several proposals to arrive targets for reductions in Hebei's energy-related $CO_2$ emissions. The method improved and relative policy advance improved pointing at empirical results also can be applied by other province to make study about driven factors of the growth of carbon emissions.

  • The author undertook PCR-founded genetic platform to investigate the hierarchical dendrogram of Euclidean genetic distances of one razor clam population, particularly for Solen corneus, which was further associated with those of the other clam population, by engaging with the precisely designed oligonucleotide primer sets. Seven oligonucleotides primers were used producing a total of 639 counted bands in population A and 595 in population B, respectively, ranging in size of DNA fragments from larger than approximately 50 bp to less than 1,100 bp. Their primers generated 39 specific fragments (6.10%) in population A and 47 (7.90%) in population B, respectively Comparatively, individuals of one razor clam population were fairly related to that of the other clam population, as shown in the hierarchical dendrogram of Euclidean genetic distances. The analysis of genetic variation between razor clam populations could offer important statistics for fisheries and mariculture. Generally the results showed specific and/or conserved genetic loci between razor clam populations. Specific markers established by the author will be valuable for the genetic analysis, species protection and increase of razor clam individuals in coastal region of the Korean Peninsula.

  • In the present study, the seven primers BION-33, BION-34, BION-37, BION-41, BION-44, BION-45 and BION-42 generated the total number of loci, average number of loci per lane and specific loci in Hongseong, Yeosu and Goheung population of F. mutica, respectively. 7 primers generated 19 specific loci in the Hongseong population, 29.3 in the Yeosu population and 23.1 in the Goheung population, respectively. Especially, the decamer primer BION-37 generated 7 unique loci to each population, which were identifying each population, approximately 700 bp in Hongseong population. In this study, the dendrogram obtained by the seven primers indicates three genetic clusters: cluster 1 (HONGSEONG 01-HONGSEONG 07), cluster 2 (YEOSU 08-YEOSU 14) and cluster 3 (GOHEUNG 15-GOHEUNG 21). Among the twenty one cockles, the shortest genetic distance that displayed significant molecular differences was between individuals 17 and 19 from the Goheung population (genetic distance = 0.051), while the longest genetic distance among the twenty-one cockle individuals that displayed significant molecular differences was between individuals HONGSEONG no. 03 and YEOSU no. 12 (genetic distance = 0.616). Relatively, individuals of YEOSU population were fairly closely related to that of GOHEUNG population. Ultimately, PCR fragments revealed of in this study may be useful as a DNA marker the three geographic populations to distinguish.
