  • In this paper, we propose the speech enhancement algorithm using an one-microphone in a reverberant room environments. Spectral subtraction is the effective method which can reduce the reverberation element and the noise in a spectrum domain. Spectral subtraction needs correct separation of voice section and silent section therefore to improve the performance, voice activity detection(VAD) based on entropy has been applied to the proposed method. We test a performance of the proposed method by comparing with conventional method which used VAD based on energy detection. Reverberation reduction ratio with variable of SNR and a reverberation time is used as a test index. From the simulation result, proposed method shows performance better than conventional method.

  • Inspired by the specific amino acid sequence Asn-Pro-Ala (NPA) of water channel aquaporins (AQPs), we fabricated polyamide (PA) nanofiltration (NF) membranes by introducing reduced glutathione (GSH) in interfacial polymerization (IP) method. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), zeta potential and static water contact angle measurement were employed to characterize the chemical composition, morphology, electronegativity and hydrophilicity of the NF membranes. The water flux of GSH/PIP-TMC NF membrane reached $32.00L\;m^{-2}h^{-1}$ at 0.2 MPa, which was approximately twice than that of pristine PIP-TMC NF membrane when the ratio of GHS to piperazidine (PIP) was 40% during IP process. More water channels were built as GSH was embedded into PA layer. The fabricated NF membranes also took on potent rejection for dyes and $Na_2SO_4$. This study presents a simple and facile method to simulate water channels-based biological materials which may find potential application in water treatment.

  • Observational evidence for intrinsic galaxy alignments in isolated spiral pairs is presented. From the catalog of the galaxy groups identified by Tempel et al. in the flux-limited galaxy sample of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 10, we select those groups consisting only of two spiral galaxies as isolated spiral pairs and investigate if and how strongly the spin axes of their two spiral members are aligned with each other. We detect a clear signal of intrinsic spin alignment in isolated spiral pairs, which leads to the rejection of the null hypothesis at the 99.9999% confidence level via the Rayleigh test. It is also found that those isolated pairs comprising two early-type spiral galaxies exhibit the strongest signal of intrinsic spin alignment and that the strength of the alignment signal depends on the angular separation distance as well as on the luminosity ratio of the member galaxies. Using the dark matter halos consisting of only two subhalos resolved in the EAGLE hydrodynamic simulations, we repeat the same analysis but fail to find any alignment tendency between the spin angular momentum vectors of the stellar components of the subhalos, which is in tension with the observational result. Several possible sources of this apparent inconsistency between the observational and the numerical results are discussed.

  • In this paper, we designed a highly suppressed sidelobe ladder type RF SAW bandpass filter based on 1-port resonator, for 800 MHz mobile communication system. In order to get the highest device characteristics, we optimized some important parameters such as the electrode thickness, electrode lambda weghting of the reflectors, and static capacitance ratio. Furthermore, we fabricated the Tx and Rx. filter using optimized parameters. Implemented filters can be used in 800 MHz mobile communication system and external impedance matching circuits are not needed. RF filter was fabricated on 36$^{\circ}$LiTaO$_3$ substrates with Al-Cu (W 3 %)and mounted 3.8mm$\times$3.8mm$\times$1.5mm SMD package. Developed filters has 2.3 dB insertion loss in the 25 MHz pass-band, 33MHz with 3-dB insertion loss, stop-band rejection of 30 dB, passband ripple is less than 0.5 The power durability of the filters measured about 3.5W and the maximum temperature variation within -2$0^{\circ}C$~8$0^{\circ}C$ was 0.09 dB/$^{\circ}C$ of 3-dB insertion loss.

  • A new directional linear array structure and its signal processing method are presented to resolve the left/right ambiguity inherent in a linear array. The array structure combines an ordinary acoustic sensor array with a DIFAR (Directional Frequency Analysis and Recording) sensor array, keeping a linear array configuration and gaining a instantaneous left/right discrimination. It presents better PSRR (Port-Starboard Rejection Ratio) in low frequency band and low SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) situation as compared with a conventional twin linear array, and good compromise to easily upgrade an existing linear array system to a new one with a left/right discrimination capability.

  • In this paper, an algorithm for a real-time automatic fingerprint identification system is proposed. The fingerprint feature volume is extracted by considering distinct and local characteristics(such as intensity and image quality difference etc.) in fingerprint images, which makes the algorithm properly adaptive to various image acquisitionj methods. Also the matching technique is designed to be invariant on rotation, scaling and translation (RST) changes while being capable of real-time processing. And the classification of fingerprints is performed based on the ridge flow and the relations among singular points such as cores and deltas. The developed fingerprint identification algorithm has been applied to various sets of fingerprint images such as one from NIST(National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA), a pressed fingerprint database constructed according to Korean population distributions in sex, ages and jobs, and a set of rolled-than-scanned fingerprint images. The overall performance of the algorithm has been analyzed and evaluated to the false rejection ratio of 0.07% while holding the false acceptance ratio of 0%.

  • In this paper, considering the characteristics of the driver at roundabouts by investigating the critical gap acceptance on various traffic conditions, multi-legged roundabouts were evaluated. The gap acceptance and rejection of 4-legged, 5-legged, 6-legged, and 7-legged roundabout were surveyed on real fields, and the critical gap acceptance was estimated using Raff's methods. Derived the critical gap acceptance was processed calibration and validation for micro-simulation, and then multi-legged roundabouts under variable conditions such as variations of traffic volume, turning ratio, and size of inscribed circle diameter were evaluated to verify operating conditions of roundabouts. As the results, according to the operating traffic volume and turning ratio, the inscribed circle diameters were proposed at each level of service. These inscribed circle diameters were able to reflect the guideline of geometric design for multi-legged roundabouts.

  • The interference among the rain radars and interference in the adjacent wireless station due to the spurious signals from the rain radar were analyzed in this paper. The rain radar measures the rain intensity using S-band signal. The measured data are utilized in forecasting the rainfall. The interference among the rain radars or in the adjacent wireless stations may be caused by the operation with low elevation angle and the high output power. Based on the propagation analysis of S band signal and the deduced interference protection ratio of rain radar, the interference due to the rain radar are analyzed. Also, the radiation spectrum characteristics of a rain radar are deduced from the caused interference effects by the spurious signals of the rain radar. To minimize the interference effects for adjacent wireless stations, it is required to get the rejection characteristics of spurious signals above 105 dB. In viewpoints of interference for rain radars, it is necessary to operate the rain radar with a different PRF and operation time opposite to adjacent rain radars.

  • The probability of failure is used to analyze the reliability of three dimensional slope failure, instead of conventional factor of safety. The strength parameters are assumed to be normal variated and beta variated. These are interval estimated under the specified confidence level and maximum likelihood estimation. The pseudonormal and beta random variables are generated using the uniform probability transformation method according to central limit theorem and rejection method. By means of a Monte-Carlo Simulation, the probability of failure is defined as; $P_f=M/N$ N: Total number of trials M: Total number of failures Some of the conclusions derived. from the case study include; 1. Three dimensional factors of safety are generally much higher than 2-D factors of safety. However situations appear to exist where the 3-D factor of safety can be lower than the 2-D factor of safety. 2. The $F_3/F_2$ ratio appears to be quite sensitive to c and ${\phi}$ and to the shape of the 3-D shear surface and the slope but not to be to the unit weight of soil. 3. From the two models (normal, beta) considered for the distribution of the factor of safety, the beta distribution generally provides lager than normal distribution. 4. Results obtained using the beta and normal models are presented in a nomgraph relating slope height and slop angle to probability of failure.
