  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of rubber-filler attachments on inorganic filler contained NR vulcanizatic. The results of this study showed as follows. The reinforcing properties and damping values of the vulcanizates in the elastic region showed strong relation with the filler characteristics and temperture. The vulcanizates filled with nature-activated inorganic filler like silica had higer elastic modulus and damping values than the vulcanizates of nature-nonactivated inorganic filter. The reinforcing effects of differential filler loadings on NR raised the effects with temperature rise, but the damping values varied with the filler characteristics and temperature variations.

  • This study is to investigate on the remaining life of reinforced concrete apartment by using the probability of a reinforcing-steel corrosion and the carbonation tendency of domestic reinforced concrete apartments by using the statistic method. The results are as follow. ·To compare with the carbonation velocity of Kishitani's formula (x=3.727{{{{ SQRT { t} }}) when water-cement ratio is w=0.6, R=1, it is founded out that the carbonation velocity is slow a little in all area investigated and inland area, and fast a bit in coastal area. ·In the influencing factors in regard to the probability of reinforcing-steel corrosion, It seems that the influence of elapsed time is more effective than that of region. Therefore, it is necessary that it makes sure of the cover depth under apartment construction in recent so far as the durability is considered.

  • Bond test was carried out to assess the effect of several variables on bond characteristics between reinforcing bar and concrete. Key variables are concrete compressive strength(low, medium high, and ultra-high), bar diameter(13mm and 22mm), and concrete cover(25mm; 1-inch, 38mm; 1.5-inch, and 51mm; 2-inch). Confining effect and bar spacing are not taken into account. Thirty-two specimens subjected to uniaxial tension were tested under hypothesis uniform bond stress distribution along the reinforcing bar embeded in concrete. Test results(ultimate bond stress) were compared with bond and development provisions of the ACI building Code(ACl 318-89) and local bond stress versus slip relationship diagram represented to show effect of the above variables.

  • Bond between reinforcing bar and surrounding concrete is supposed to transfer load safely in the process of design of reinforced concrete structures. Bond failure of reinforcing bar generally take place by splitting of the concrete cover as bond force between concrete and reinforcing bars exceeds the confinement of the concrete cover and reinforcement. However, the confinement force has a limitation. Thus, the only variable is the bearing angle corresponding to the change of bond force. Higher rib height bars possessing higher shearing resistance can maintain higher bearing angle and higher splitting resistance when bars are highly confined, and consequently higher bond strength, than lower rib higher bars. In this study, from the evaluate bond strength of high Relative Rib Area Bars Using beam-end test specimens are compared with the current provisions for development of reinforcement, and the improved design method of bond strength is proposed.

  • This study was performed to evaluate joint behavior for the application of hybrid bridges by experiment of 14 beams according to penetration length, amount of reinforcing steel and stud and prestressing stress. By tests results, prestressing stress was more effective than amount of stud or reinforcing steel. And the spacing of stud is also more effective than penetration length. Especially, all beams were failed by turns desertion of reinforcing steel, stud, and steel plate.

  • Steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) were considered a new technology for the construction industry. However today this technology has found wider acceptance among the construction industry. Currently, steel fibres are used in varied segments in many application areas across different segments in the construction industry, especially in tunneling, airports, warehouses, etc. Time and safety are the main factors are among the various advantages which renders steel fibres superior to the competing product. For fibers reinforcing, The maximum load carrying capacity is controlled by fibers pulling out of the composite because fiber reinforcing does not have a deformed surface like larger steel reinforcing bars. The study demonstrated that above concept is applicable and effective in concrete structure by analytical study. The analytical result appears that SFRP have the potential to significantly increase the strength of existing concrete structures, while at the same time dramatically improving their fracture energy characteristics.

  • The practice of splicing reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete structures to manage insufficient bar length is a common approach, which is mainly due to transportation limitations on bar length. The splicing of reinforcing bars side by side offers a simple and economical solution to the problem of continuity. This paper examines the influence of different structural parameters such as concrete cover, lap splice length, shear links confinement and concrete strength on the lap splices based on an extensive experimental database of laps and anchorage. The current study shows that increasing the lap splices beyond 50Ø has no additional benefit for increasing its strength. The results also show that relative to the measured stress, specimens with larger concrete side covers shows higher splice stress compared to the samples with smaller concrete covers.

  • The modern automotive industry develops innovative vehicle designs to meet increasing stability of car and performance demands of their customers. The improvement of frame rigidity by the structural foam is thought to be an effective means to improve the performance because of high applicability and minimum weight. The object of this paper is to examine the use of structural foam in a hat section as an optimum reinforcing means, to compare the reinforcing performance of structural foam versus a plastic reinforcement. The result of this paper indicated that reinforcing efficiencies are achieved by structural foam and plastic reinforcement shape.

  • This paper presents an experimental study of bond-slip behavior of reinforced lightweight aggregate concrete (LC) and normal weight concrete (NC) with embedded steel bar. Tests were conducted on tension-pull specimens that had cross-sectional dimension with a reinforcing bar embedded in the center section. The experimental variables include concrete strength (20, 40, and 60 MPa) and coarse aggregate type (normal-weight aggregate and reservoir sludge lightweight aggregate). The test results show that as concrete compressive strength increased, the magnitudes of the slip of the LC specimens were greater than those of the NC specimens. Moreover, the bond strength and stiffness approaches zero at the loaded end, or close to the central anchored point of the specimen. In addition, the proposed bond stress-slip equation can effectively estimate the behavior of bond stress and steel bar slipping.

  • The corrosion of steel reinforcing bar(re-bar) has been the major cause of the reinforced concrete deterioration. FRP(Fiber-reinforced polymer) reinforcing bar has emerged as one of the most promising and affordable solutions to the corrosion problems of steel reinforcement in structural concrete. In this study, long-term durability performance of FRP re-bar were evaluated. The mechanical and durability properties of two type of CFRP- and GFRP re-bar were investigated; the FRP re-bars were subjected to alkaline solution, acid solution, salt solution and deionized water. The mechanical and durability properties were investigated by performing tensile and short beam tests. Experimental results confirmed the desirable resistance of FRP re-bar to aggressive chemical environment.
