  • The present research studied the effectiveness of specific strategy training in memory awareness on children's memory performance. The subjects were 60 children, 30 six-year-olds and 30 eight-year-olds. Free recall scores and use of a rehearsal strategy (exposure durations) based on Belmont & Butterfield (1971) were used to measure children's performance in three memory tasks. All subjects were randomly assigned to one of three experimental groups: the control group with no training, the chunking and rehearsal strategy training group, and the chunking and rehearsal strategy training combined with memory awareness strategy. The data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA, three-way ANOVA with repeated measures, and Student-Newman-Keuls post hoc test. There were significant differences among the three groups both in the free recall score and in the use of the rehearsal strategy. The mnemonic strategic training with memory awareness strategy was the most effective on both free recall and use of rehearsal strategy. The effects of the mnemonic strategy training with memory awareness strategy were more effective for the 8-year-olds than the 6-year-olds.

  • Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), also known as Danuri, was successfully launched on 4 Aug. from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station using a Space-X Falcon-9 rocket. Flight dynamics (FD) operational readiness was one of the critical parts to be checked before the flight. To demonstrate FD software's readiness and enhance the operator's contingency response capabilities, KPLO FD specialists planned, organized, and conducted four simulations and two rehearsals before the KPLO launch. For the efficiency and integrity of FD simulation and rehearsal, different sets of blind test data were prepared, including the simulated tracking measurements that incorporated dynamical model errors, maneuver execution errors, and other errors associated with a tracking system. This paper presents the simulation and rehearsal results with lessons learned for the KPLO FD operational readiness checkout. As a result, every functionality of FD operation systems is firmly secured based on the operation procedure with an enhancement of contingency operational response capability. After conducting several simulations and rehearsals, KPLO FD specialists were much more confident in the flight teams' ability to overcome the challenges in a realistic flight and FD software's reliability in flying the KPLO. Moreover, the results of this work will provide numerous insights to the FD experts willing to prepare deep space flight operations.

  • This study investigated the relationship between elementary school students' creative problem solving skills in terms of science and cognitive strategies. Creative problem solving in science was measured by 4 variables; appropriateness, scientific ability, concreteness, and originality. Cognitive strategies were measured by 6 variables; surface(rehearsal), deep(elaboration and organization), and metacognitive strategies(planning, monitoring, and regulating). The KEDI Creative Problems Solving Test in Science(Cho et al., 1997) and the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire(Pintrich & DeGroot, 1990) were administered to 72 subjects. Data were analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis. Our findings indicated a positive correlation between creative problem solving in science and cognitive strategies. The surface cognitive strategy (rehearsal) positively predicted the total score, the scientific ability's score, the concrete score, and the original score of creative problem solving in science. The deep cognitive strategy(organization) positively predicted the appropriate score and the metacognitive strategy(planning) positively predicted the original score of scientific creative problem solving skills.

  • The purpose of this paper is to 1)examine the current state of cultural studies in Korea with a focus on recent discourses about its 'crisis' and 2)attempt to find some ways out of these dilemmas in drama/theatre/performance studies. As Raymond Williams redefined 'culture' as 'a whole way of life,' performance studies has expanded the boundary of 'performance' from traditional performing arts onto almost everything that can be studied and analyzed 'as' performance. Performance is not only the final product on display but a whole process that includes training, workshop, and rehearsal of culture. According to Richard Schechner, workshop and rehearsal are the most critical and creative 'liminal' phases that allow traditional knowledge and alternative challenges to coexist in conflict and intentionally delay the final decision by putting itself in a perpetual process. From this view, this essay attempts to find an-no matter how limited and temporary-answer to or a possible exit from political and theoretical aporias of cultural studies.

  • The purpose of this study was to review of mechanism and application methodology about mental practice. The mental practice is symbolic rehearsal of physical activity in the absence of any gross muscular movements. Human have the ability to generate mental correlates of perceptual and motor events without any triggering external stimulus, a function known as imagery, Practice produces both internal and external sensory consequences which are thought to be essential for learning to occur, It is for this reason that mental practice, rehearsal of skill in imagination rather than by overt physical activity, has intrigued theorists, especially those interested in cognitive process. Several studies in sport psychology have shown that mental practice can be effective in optimizing the execution of movements in athletes and help novice learner in the incremental acquisition of new skilled behaviors. There are many theories of mental practice for explaining the positive effect In skill learning and performance. Most tenable theories are symbolic learning theory, psyconeuromuscular theory, Paivio's theory, regional cerebral blood flow theory, motivation theory, modeling theory, mental and muscle movement nodes theory, insight theory, selective attention theory, and attention-arousal set theory etc.. The factors for influencing to effects of mental practice are application form, application period, time for length of the mental practice, number of repetition, existence of physical practice.
