Mechanosensitive β-catenin signaling regulates lymphatic vascular development

  • The Wnt/β-catenin signaling is an evolutionarily conserved pathway that plays a pivotal role in embryonic development and adult homeostasis. However, we have limited information about the involvement of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in the lymphatic vascular system that regulates fluid homeostasis by absorbing interstitial fluid and returning it to blood circulation. In this recent publication we report that canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling is highly active and critical for the formation of lymphovenus valves (LVVs) and lymphatic valves (LVs). β-catenin directly associates with the regulatory elements of the lymphedema-associated transcription factor, FOXC2 and activates its expression in an oscillatory shear stress (OSS)-dependent manner. The phenotype of β-catenin null embryos was rescued by FOXC2 overexpression. These results suggest that Wnt/β-catenin signaling is a mechanotransducer that links fluid force with lymphatic vascular development.

중학교 자유학기제 형성평가 방안 탐색 (An Exploration on Formative Evaluation Methods for Free Semester System in Middle School)

  • The purpose of the study was to develop evaluation methods which would measure student achievement and progress without traditional paper-pencil tests such as mid-term and final examinations. More specifically, the main research focus were to establish general directions of student assessment during free semester, to build evaluation models supporting student's participation and learning, and to report and record various student evaluation results. As research results, we found that student evaluation of free semester should be organized to improve a) experience learning activity, self-regulatory and collaboratory study, b) high-order thinking ability and character-building, and c) teacher-student-parent cooperation. Since traditional paper-pencil tests were restricted in free semester, student achievement should be provided by a way of performance descriptions on transcripts rather than quantitative grade points. Student performance descriptions had to show not only subject knowledge but also students efforts, motivation, and participation. These multiple and educationally meaningful information would be collected by teacher-student-parent communication and collaboration.

  • In recent years, the widespread application of quality management and measurement reliability has put increasing emphasis on procedures for periodic instrument calibration. By optimizing calibration intervals, unnecessary calibrations can be minimized, thereby reducing costs. Moreover, optimizing intervals will improve compliance with regulatory directives while ensuring maximal compliance with reliability targets. In this paper, we present Calibration Interval Analysis Program developed using several establishment methodologies of calibration interval for measurement quality and reliability improvement. Also, we perform calibration interval analysis for some measurement instruments and analyse its results.

  • TV advertising(TV ad.) to children consumers is a useful method for both business and consumer socialization of children. The object of this study was to see if children could put TV ad. to practical use as a tool for purchasing information and as a learning method. For these purposes, the contents of TV ad. to children consumers were analyzed and their influence on children researched. Based on the findings of this study, it is suggested that TV ad. toward children consumers should be regulated and regulatory guidelines for children's ad. developed to create a better environment for children consumers.

  • Dietary life of Korean population was greatly improved by the increased food production, enlarged food processing and betterment of food distribution system during the last three decades. On the other hand, food pollution issues have arisen from the increased use of chemicals and advancements in analytical techniques and toxicological information. The health risk of hazardous substances in Korean diet was estimated to be in the decreasing order of heavy metals>pesticide residues>food additives>mycotoxins>radionuclides>PCBs whereas consumers do not recognize it in the same order. It is needed to evaluate the food safety more accurately based on scientific evidences and to adopt reasonable regulatory measures in Korea for the benefits of people's health and national interest.

부자재가 돼지 사체 퇴비화에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Amendments on Composting of Swine Carcass)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide information for the livestock for the livestock carcass composting operation in agricultural waste management. Burial, landfilling and incineration of livestock carcass may have environmental regulatory and economic liabilities. Dead animals amended with agricultural residues can be composted and used to promote soil fertility and reduce environmental pollution. In this study we evaluated the effect of amendments on the primary and secondary composting reaction and stability of compost. The full-scale composting bin of swine carcass in roofed system with three amendments was adequate in reaching sufficient temperature above 55$^{\circ}C$ long enough to kill the pathogen. The average temperature of the compost material in dead swine amended with corn stover increased rapidly to 64$^{\circ}C$ on the 2nd day after primary composting and dropped to near ambient temperature on the 140th day of composting. The composting with of corn stover and wheat straw are more efficient for swine carcass composting than that of sawdust. Therefore, the amendment property is an important factor in the design of composting facility.

  • This study begins with investigation of the purpose and background of the International convention on Standards of Training, Sertification and Watchkeeping for seafarers 1978, London(STCW) which will be put into force on and after 28th April 1984. Author tried to confirm those common points on requirement of the qualifications between the radio officer regulated it. the STCW Convention and radio communications between the radio officer regulated in the STCW convention and radio communication operator's general certificate in the Radio Regulations annexed to the International Telecommunication convention. Then, Japanese communications administration is taken as a model for the comparative analysis, as Japan and Korea have many resembling aspects, especially legal and social aspects. Therefore, as one of urgent tasks of Korean Communications Administration preparing for the STCW convention, Istressed on partial amendment of the Korean Radio Regulatory Act.

  • In recent years, the case to install small water treatment facility to every local area has increased. A key issue in the successful implementation of the control systems for the water treatment plants is the choice of control architecture. Within the framework of distributed control system(DCS), this paper presents a new development of intelligent control module and its novel application to open control architecture for water treatment plants. This control system so called NCS(Network Based Control System) with standard networks system with LonTalks protocol of ANSI/EIA 709.1, regulatory control function and information dispatch function has suitable functionality to operate these distributed water treatment facility effectively. This paper describes the case where NCS is applied for the filters system in water treatment facility of Heong Sung area.

  • This paper resents an application of an Artificial Neural Network(ANN) technique to forecast the short-term system marginal price(SMP). The forecasting of SMP is a very important factor in an electricity market for the optimal biddings of market participants as well as for the market stabilization of regulatory bodies. The proposed neural network scheme is composed of three layers. In this process, input data are set up to reflect market conditions. And the $\lambda$ that is the coefficient of activation function is modified in order to give a proper signal to each neuron and improve the adaptability for a neural network. The reposed techniques are trained validated and tested with the historical real-world data from korea Power Exchange(KPX).

Consensus Clustering for Time Course Gene Expression Microarray Data

  • The rapid development of microarray technologies enabled the monitoring of expression levels of thousands of genes simultaneously. Recently, the time course gene expression data are often measured to study dynamic biological systems and gene regulatory networks. For the data, biologists are attempting to group genes based on the temporal pattern of their expression levels. We apply the consensus clustering algorithm to a time course gene expression data in order to infer statistically meaningful information from the measurements. We evaluate each of consensus clustering and existing clustering methods with various validation measures. In this paper, we consider hierarchical clustering and Diana of existing methods, and consensus clustering with hierarchical clustering, Diana and mixed hierachical and Diana methods and evaluate their performances on a real micro array data set and two simulated data sets.
