On the cAMP content in isolated gastric glands from rabbit stomach, the effect of ginseng components (total saponin, diol saponin, triol saponin) with pepsinogen secretion regulatory agents (cholecystokinin, isoproterenol, carbachol, propranolol, atropine, DECAMP, DBcGMP) were studied in vitro. According to the results, ginseng components may have the effect of stimulation or inhibition on cAMP production, and both dial saponin and triol saponin may be reciprocal effect to pepsinogen secretion regulatory agents. It seemed that the ginseng components may have the normalization action to pepsinogen regulatory agents on cAMP content in isolated rabbit gastric glands.
Purpose - This study aims to explore how a combination of the advertisement presentation vividness and consumers' regulatory focus affects choice. In addition, it seeks to the understanding for the psychological process by using consumers' response with experimental designs. Research design, data, and methodology - This research conducted two experiments based on the scenario. Specifically, Experiment 1 used a 2 (vividness of advertisement presentation: picture vs. word) × 2 (regulatory focus: prevention focus vs. promotion focus) between-subjects design. Experiment 2 used a 2 (vividness of advertisement presentation: detailed description vs. less detailed description) × 2 (regulatory focus: prevention focus vs. promotion focus) between-subjects design. Results - Two studies showed that prevention-focused individuals, when presented with a vivid presentation, were more likely to choose the advertised option compared with advertisements presented less vividly appearance. In contrast, promotion-focused individuals showed no difference in choice shares regardless of advertisement presentation vividness. In addition, these effects were mediated by the imagery toward the advertised information. Conclusions - The current research found how consumers' inherent motivation affects the extent of imagery in a purchase decision and a new perspective to previous studies with regards to regulatory focus. Further, this research suggested new advertisement strategies to corporations.
Purpose - In this study, the author investigates which shopping motivations affect regulatory focus differently. This study also determines the effect of shopping motivation on regulatory focus when consumers use different shopping channels. Additionally, the author tries to investigate how information quality affects regulatory focus. Similarly, this study also examines the effect of the shopping channel on the relationship between information quality and regulatory focus. Research design, data, and methodology - With 635 surveyed questionnaires, this study was conducted by SPSS and AMOS 22.0 version. SEM was used to verity hypotheses and model. Results - According to this research, hedonic shopping motivation affects promotion focus positively and prevention focus negatively. Furthermore, when consumers use a mobile channel rather than an online one, hedonic shopping motivation affects prevention focus more negatively. However, depending on the shopping channel, there are no significant differences in the case of the relationship between hedonic motivation and promotion focus. The author also examines how information quality affects regulatory focus. In particular, when consumers use a mobile channel rather than an online one, information quality affects promotion and prevention focus more positively. Conclusions - Through this study, the author suggests that shopping motivation and information quality could influence consumers' regulatory focus, shopping attitude, and intention.
Purpose - This study focused on consumers' perception about regulations for sales enforced by national and local governments in Korea. The study examined the relationship between perceived regulatory restrictions and subjective well-being (SWB), and perceived regulatory restrictions and shopping value, respectively. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - Data were collected from 135 college students and consumers in Gyeonggi Province to verify the relationships, moderating effects, and mediating effects, thus testing the theoretical model and its hypotheses. Results - First, consumers' positive perception of regulatory restrictions enabled enhancement of their SWB. Second, consumers' positive perception of regulatory restrictions had no significant positive influence on hedonic value but had a significant positive influence on utilitarian value. Third, utilitarian value exhibited a full mediating effect on the relationship between regulatory restrictions and SWB. Conclusion - This study showed that consumers' positive win-win attitude is based on social norms. Further, we expect that consumers experiencing discomfort due to regulatory restrictions resolve this by going to other distributors. Finally, to increase distributors' competitiveness and consumers' utilitarian value, it is suggested that distributors require a variety of marketing strategies.
The pathogenesis of mantle cell lymphoma, a special subtype of lymphoma that is invasive and indolent and has a median survival of 3 to 4 years, is still partially unexplained. Much research about genes and miRNAs has been conducted in recent years, but interactions and regulatory relations of genetic elements which may play a vital role in genesis of MCL have attracted only limited attention. The present study concentrated on regulatory relations about genes and miRNAs contributing to MCL pathogenesis. Numerous experimentally validated raw data were organized into three topology networks, comprising differentially expressed, associated and global examples. Comparison of similarities and dissimilarities of the three regulating networks, paired with the analysis of the interactions between pairs of elements in every network, revealed that the differentially expressed network illuminated the carcinogenicity mechanism of MCL and the related network further described the regulatory relations involved, including prevention, diagnosis, development and therapy. Three kinds of regulatory relations for host genes including miRNAs, miRNAs targeting genes and genes regulating miRNAs were concluded macroscopically. Regulation of the differentially expressed miRNAs was also analyzed, in terms of abnormal gene expression affecting the MCL pathogenesis. Special regulatory relations were uncovered. For example, auto-regulatory loops were found in the three topology networks, key pathways of the nodes being highlighted. The present study focused on a novel point of view revealing important influencing factors for MCL pathogenesis.
Periodontal disease is one of the major dental diseases. Currently, various methods are used for healing and successful regeneration of periodontal tissue damaged by periodontal disease. The periodontal ligament and alveolar bone have received considerable interest for use in periodontal tissue regeneration and induction. However, as the functions of the factors required for tooth attachment and key regulatory factors for periodontal tissue regeneration in the cementum have recently been identified, interest in cementum formation and regeneration has increased. Dental cementum forms in the late phase of tooth development because of the reciprocal regulatory interaction between cervical loop epithelial cells and surrounding mesenchymal cells, which is regulated by various gene signaling networks. Many attempts have been made to understand the regulatory factors and cellular and molecular mechanisms associated with new cementum formation. In this paper, we reviewed the study outcomes to date on the regulatory factors that induce cementum formation and regeneration, focusing on understanding the roles and functions of Wnt signaling in the regulation of cementum formation. In addition, we aimed to obtain information on the useful reciprocal regulatory factors that mediate cementum formation and regeneration through a series of molecular mechanisms.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disorder associated with multiple genetic, developmental and environmental factors. The recent advances in gene expression microarray technologies as well as network-based analysis methodologies provide groundbreaking opportunities to study type 2 diabetes mellitus. In the present study, we used previously published gene expression microarray datasets of human skeletal muscle samples collected from 20 insulin sensitive individuals before and after insulin treatment in order to construct insulin-mediated regulatory network. Based on a motif discovery method implemented by iRegulon, a Cytoscape app, we identified 25 candidate regulons, motifs of which were enriched among the promoters of 478 up-regulated genes and 82 down-regulated genes. We then looked for a hierarchical network of the candidate regulators, in such a way that the conditional combination of their expression changes may explain those of their target genes. Using Genomica, a software tool for regulatory network construction, we obtained a hierarchical network of eight regulons that were used to map insulin downstream signaling network. Taken together, the results illustrate the benefits of combining completely different methods such as motif-based regulatory factor discovery and expression level-based construction of regulatory network of their target genes in understanding insulin induced biological processes and signaling pathways.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of systems thinking on high school students' self-regulatory efficacy and self-confidence that constitute science self-efficacy. We set self-regulatory efficacy as a factor of students' systems thinking affects their self-confidence on science through self-regulatory efficacy. A total of 210 students were sampled from general high schools and 188 valid cases were analyzed. The instrument has 39 items that consist of 20 items measuring systems thinking and 19 items of science self-efficacy. The result of the exploratory factor analysis indicated that 20 items for systems thinking, 8 items for self-regulatory efficacy, 4 items for self-confidence are reasonable. Testing the goodness of fit of a structural equation model, it turn out to be appropriate (${\chi}^2$=344.498, df=242, TLI= .921, RMSEA= .044) using 24 items (mental model, personal mastery, systems analysis, self-regulatory efficacy, and self-confidence were constructed). In addition, the mental model, which is one factor of systems thinking, is mediated by self-regulatory efficacy that affects self-confidence directly and/or indirectly. The results suggest that systems thinking affects science self-efficacy directly and indirectly. Utilizing systems thinking in science education can produce a theoretical basis in improving students' confidence and self-efficacy about science.
Chromatin structure and dynamics that are influenced by epigenetic marks, such as histone modification and DNA methylation, play a crucial role in modulating gene transcription. To understand the relationship between histone modifications and regulatory elements in breast cancer cells, we compared our chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-Seq) histone modification patterns for histone H3K4me1, H3K4me3, H3K9/16ac, and H3K27me3 in MCF-7 cells with publicly available formaldehyde-assisted isolation of regulatory elements (FAIRE)-chip signals in human chromosomes 8, 11, and 12, identified by a method called FAIRE. Active regulatory elements defined by FAIRE were highly associated with active histone modifications, like H3K4me3 and H3K9/16ac, especially near transcription start sites. The H3K9/16ac-enriched genes that overlapped with FAIRE signals (FAIRE-H3K9/14ac) were moderately correlated with gene expression levels. We also identified functional sequence motifs at H3K4me1-enriched FAIRE sites upstream of putative promoters, suggesting that regulatory elements could be associated with H3K4me1 to be regarded as distal regulatory elements. Our results might provide an insight into epigenetic regulatory mechanisms explaining the association of histone modifications with open chromatin structure in breast cancer cells.

Paeonia lactiflora roots (PLR) are a traditional medicinal plant used to treat inflammatory diseases. Recently, PLR has been reported to increase the secretion of immune regulatory factors and enhance phagocytic activity in macrophages. Therefore, in this study, we compared the macrophage activation induced by PLR under different extraction conditions. PLR extracts at temperatures ranging from 4℃ to 60℃ increased the secretion of immune regulatory factors, but the secretion slightly decreased at 80℃. Under time-based extraction conditions at 60℃, immune regulatory factor secretion by PLR extracts was similar from 1 to 24 hours. Therefore, considering the overall results of this study, extracting PLR at 60℃ for 1 hour is considered the optimal condition for macrophage activation.
