Development of a Group-specific Average Brain Atlas: A Comparison Study between Korean and Occidental Groups

  • One of the most important roles of a brain atlas is providing a spatial reference system in which multiple images can be interpreted in a consistent way. The brain atlase based on Western populations such as the International Consortium for Brain Mapping's 452 T-1 Weighted Average Atlas was widely used; however, they may not be the optimal choice for use with brain images from other ethnic groups, because structural differences between occidental and oriental brains have been reported. Therefore, in this study, we created an average brain atlas from 100 healthy Koreans (100 cases (M/F=53/47), 39.0±17.0 years). The purpose of this study was to make a Korean average-brain atlas and to measure its differences from a widely accepted average brain atlas built on an occidental population. The average brain atlas for Koreans was developed using widely accepted tools and procedures. The comparison between the Korean and occidental averages was performed using tissue probability maps and a registration tool, and it was shown that the global pattern of differences between the two average brains found in this work agreed with previously reported differences: Korean brains are wider and shorter in size, and smaller in volume, yet no hemispheric volume asymmetry was found.

외국 노출량 산정 프로그램(ECETOC TRA)의 국내 적용을 위한 입력변수의 보정에 관한 연구 (Evaluation of the Application of a European Chemical Risk Assessment Tool in Korea)

  • Objectives: The study aim was to evaluate the application of a chemical exposure assessment tool for the Korean workplace. The Ministry of Employment and Labor in Korea (KMOEL) introduced the need for workplace risk assessments in 2011, requiring the Korean chemical industry to consider both domestic and international chemical regulation policies (e.g., estimations of exposure scenarios). Exposure scenarios are required in the European Union as part of material safety data sheets (MSDS) under the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) system. Methods: Although many programs for the estimation of exposure have been developed worldwide, to date there is no standard for the Korean workplace. To develop programs suitable for the Korean workplace, we examined the applicability of the European Center for Ecotoxicology and Toxicology of Chemicals target risk assessment (ECETOC TRA), which is recommended by the European Chemical Agency (ECHA). Results: To investigate the applicability of the ECETOC TRA to Korean industry, this study simulated 15 industrial processes. The predicted respiratory exposures for four processes using origin input parameters were underestimated compared to the measured respiratory exposure. Using calibrated input parameters, results for two processes were underestimated compared to the measured respiratory exposure. This result suggests that the use of calibrated input parameters reduces the differences between predicted and measured respiratory exposure. Conclusions: we developed applicable exposure estimating method by modifying the ECETOC TRA program; one suggested the development of exposure estimating program that explains Korea domestic workplace exposure scenario.This study will support the introduction of exposure scenario in MSDS system and protect health of worker from hazardous chemical.

전라북도의 10년간(2001~2010) 암 발생률 추이 및 암등록 자료의 질 관리 지표 분석 (An Analysis of Ten Year Trends of Cancer Incidence and Quality Control of Cancer Registration Data in Jeollabuk-do, Korea: 2001~2010)

  • 본 연구에서는 전라북도 지역암등록본부로부터 2001년부터 2010년까지 10년간 수집된 암등록 자료를 토대로 전라북도 지역의 성별, 연령군별, 호발암별 암발생률 비교 분석과 변동 추이를 살펴보았으며, 또한 국제암연구소에서 제시하는 평가 지표를 기반으로 암등록자료의 질적 수준을 평가하였다. 전라북도 지역의 암발생률 통계 및 암등록 자료의 질 관리 지표는 전북지역암센터의 지역암등록본부로부터 수집되었다. 모든 암들에 대한 성별조발생율(CR)과 연령표준화발생률(ASR)의 10년간 추이를 살펴보았으며, 남녀 5대 호발암에 대한 ASR의 10년간 추이를 분석하였다. 또한 전라북도 지역암등록본부의 암등록 자료에 대한 년도별, 성별, 호발암별 질적 수준을 평가하기 위해 충실도와 타당도를 분석하였다. 충실도 평가를 위해 사용된 지표는 사망/발생비(MI%)와 연령별 발생률 곡선이며, 타당도 평가를 위해 사용된 지표는 연령 미상률(UNK%), 현미경적 확진율(MV%) 그리고 사망진단서에서만 확인가능한 환자의 분율(DCO%)이다. 암 발생률의 10년간 변동 추이는 joinpoint 회귀분석 도구를 이용하였으며, 해당 기간에 대한 연평균 암발생 변화율(AAPC)을 측정하였다. 10년간 전라북도 지역에서의 남성 호발암 순위는 위암이 22.2%로 가장 높았으며, 다음으로 폐암 16.6%, 대장암 12.8%, 간암 12.3%, 전립샘암 6.2% 순으로 나타났다. 여성에서는 갑상샘암이 17.8%로 가장 높았고, 위암 14.7%, 유방암 11.6%, 대장암 11.5%, 폐암 7.7% 순으로 나타났다. 10년 동안 모든 암들에 대한 연령표준화발생률(ASR)을 살펴보면 전체적으로 36.5% 증가하였다. 성별에 따른 ASR 증가율을 살펴보면 남성에서는 13.7%, 여성에서는 68% 증가하였다. 성별 호발암의 연간 변동 추이를 살펴보면 남성의 위암, 폐암, 간암 발생률은 각각 연평균 1.8%, 0.8%, 3.2% 감소하는 추세를 보이고 있으나, 대장암과 전립샘암은 각각 4.9%, 15.1% 증가하는 추세를 보였다. 여성에서는 5대 호발암중 유일하게 위암이 연평균 0.6% 감소하는 추세를 보였으나, 유방암, 대장암, 폐암은 각각 연평균 5.6%, 2.7%, 2.2% 증가 추세를 보였고, 특히 갑상샘암은 연평균 29.6%의 급격한 증가 추세를 보였다. 암등록 자료의 질적 수준 평가에서 충실도 평가 지표인 MI%는 남성에서 2001년 39.4%에서 2010년 32.4%로 낮아졌고, 여성의 경우 2001년 32.2%에서 2010년 23.5%로 낮아져 적정한 수준을 유지하였다. 타당도 평가 지표인 UNK%는 전라북도 지역에서 10년간 남녀 모두 0%로 나타났으며, DCO%는 남성에서 2001년 5.6%에서 2010년 1.3%로 낮아졌고, 여성에서는 2001년 6.1%에서 2010년 1.8%로 낮아져 암등록 자료의 정확성이 향상되었다. MV%는 남성의 경우 2001년 76.3%에서 2010년 88.5%로 증가하였고, 여성의 경우 2001년 78.4%에서 2010년 90.8%로 증가하여, 남녀 모두에서 암진단의 정확성이 높아진 것으로 확인되었다. 전라북도의 10년간 암발생률 추이를 분석한 결과 남성보다 여성에서 암발생률이 증가하고 있으며, 특히 남성에서는 대장암과 전립샘암이, 여성에서는 갑상샘암과 유방암이 증가하고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 전라북도 지역암등록본부의 암등록 자료의 질관리 수준이 향상되고 있음을 확인하였다. 향후 연구에서는 대도시지역 또는 전라북도와 유사한 다른 지역과의 지역별, 연령별 호발암 및 암발생률 추이를 심층적이고 다각도로 비교 분석하여 향후 국가 차원의 암관리 대책 마련과 암 조기검진사업 추진 등의 보건 정책을 수립하는데 이와 같은 통계 자료가 반영될 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다.

Comparison of Cost Function of IMRT Optimization with RTP Research Tool Box (RTB)

  • A PC based software, the RTP Research Tool Box (RTB), was developed for IMRT optimization research. The software was consisted of an image module, a beam registration module, a dose calculation module, a dose optimization module and a dose display module. The modules and the Graphical User Interface (GUI) were designed to easily amendable by negotiating the speed of performing tasks. Each module can be easily replaced to new functions for research purpose. IDL 5.5 (RSI, USA) language was used for this software. Five major modules enable one to perform the research on the dose calculation, on the dose optimization and on the objective function. The comparison of three cost functions, such as the uncomplicated tumor control probability (UTCP), the physical objective function and the pseudo-biological objective function, which was designed in this study, were performed with the RTB. The optimizations were compared to the simulated annealing and the gradient search optimization technique for all of the optimization objective functions. No significant differences were found among the objective functions with the dose gradient search technique. But the DVH analysis showed that the pseudo-biological objective function is superior to the physical objective function when with the simulated annealing for the optimization.

토지피복도 정확도에 따른 SWAT 예측 오류 평가 (Evaluation of SWAT Prediction Error according to Accuracy of Land Cover Map)

  • The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model users tend to use the readily available input dataset, such as the Ministry of Environment (MOE) land cover data ignoring temporal and spatial changes in land cover. The SWAT model was calibrated and validated with this land cover data. The EI values were 0.79 and 0.85 for streamflow calibration and validation, respectively. The EI were 0.79 and 0.86 for sediment calibration and validation, respectively. With newly prepared landcover dataset for the Doam-dam watershed, the SWAT model better predicts hydrologic and sediment behaviors. The number of HRUs with new land cover data increased by 70.2% compared with that with the MOE land cover, indicating better representation of small-sized agricultural field boundaries. The SWAT estimated annual average sediment yield with the MOE land cover data was 61.8 ton/ha/year for the Doam-dam watershed, while 36.2 ton/ha/year (70.7% difference) of annual sediment yield with new land cover data. Especially the most significant difference in estimated sediment yield was 548.0% for the subwatershed #2. Therefore it is recommended that one needs to carefully validate land cover for the study watershed for accurate hydrologic and sediment simulation with the SWAT model.

  • 항공영상, 위성영상 및 초분광영상은 농업, 산림, 수계 해안, 지질, 토지피복 지도 작성 등에 널리 이용되고 있지만, 지적분야에서 이들의 활용은 거의 나타나지 않고 있다. 한편 해외에서는 항공 위성영상의 지적도와 중첩이나 지목의 등록 및 갱신과 관련된 연구 사례들이 보고되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초분광영상을 지적 분야 적용성 검토결과, 기존 지목 오류 조사를 위한 현장 공간정보 취득 수단으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단되며 향후 다목적 지적 구현 시 지적정보와 융합할 수 있는 농업, 토양, 그리고 식생 등의 속성정보 취득에 기여할 것으로 사료된다.

항암화학요법 관련 말초신경병증에 적용한 비약물적 중재의 효과: 체계적 문헌고찰 및 메타분석 (Effectiveness of Non-Pharmacologic Interventions in Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacologic interventions in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library CENTRAL, EMBASE, CINAHL, and several Korean databases (Until August 2017) were searched. The main search strategy combined terms for peripheral neuropathy and presence of neoplasms. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane's Risk of Bias tool for randomized studies and the Risk of Bias Assessment tool for non-randomized studies. To estimate the effect size, a meta-analysis of the studies was performed using the Rev Man 5.3 program of the Cochrane Library random-effects models were used in the analyses. Results: Twenty-two studies with a total of 954 participants met the inclusion criteria. Of the 22 studies, 12 were used to estimate the effect size of the non-pharmacologic interventions. The non-pharmacologic interventions used in patients with CIPN were exercise, acupuncture, massage, and foot bath. The acupuncture significantly reduced CIPN symptoms and signs (d=-0.71) and CIPN pain (d=-0.73) (p<.001). Massage and foot bath were also effective in reducing CIPN symptoms (d=-0.68; 95% CI=-1.05, -0.30; p<.001; $I^2=19%$).Exercises were effective in improving muscle strength and endurance(d=-0.55) and quality of life (d=-2.96), but they were not significantly effective in improving CIPN. Conclusion: Although these results provide little evidence of the effectiveness of acupuncture, massage, and foot bath in the treatment of CIPN, they suggest that these interventions can reduce CIPN symptoms in patients with cancer. However, the findings of this study should be interpreted with caution as there is a relative lack of data in this field, and additional well-designed studies are needed. 대한한방소아과학회지에 게재된 체계적 문헌고찰의 보고 질 및 방법론적 질 평가 (Evaluation of the Reporting and Methodological Quality of the Systematic Review from the Journal of Pediatrics of Korean Medicine)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to assess the reporting quality and methodological quality of systematic reviews from the Journal of Pediatrics of Korean Medicine. Methods Systematic reviews were selected from the Journal of Pediatrics of Korean Medicine (JPKM) by utilizing Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS) and JPKM homepage. Two independent researchers assessed the reporting quality through Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline checklist, and assessed the methodological quality of systematic review through Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) 2 tool checklist. Results Four systematic reviews were finally selected for the assessment. When assessed by PRISMA, three literatures were little insufficient, and one literature was sufficient. When assessed by AMSTAR 2, three literatures were moderate quality, and one literature was critically low quality. Also, all of the reviews had no information about 'Protocol and registration', 'publication bias', and 'conflicts of interest'. Conclusions Systematic review is important for Journal of Pediatrics of Korean Medicine and Korean Medicine Society. Efforts are needed to improve the reporting and methodological quality of the systematic reviews through PRISMA and AMSTAR 2.

  • The increasing number of subscribers and demand of multiplicity of services has turned Multi-Server Authentication (MSA) into an integral part of remote authentication paradigm. MSA not only offers an efficient mode to register the users by engaging a trusted third party (Registration Centre), but also a cost-effective architecture for service procurement, onwards. Recently, Lu et al.'s scheme demonstrated that Mishra et al.'s scheme is unguarded to perfect forward secrecy compromise, server masquerading, and forgery attacks, and presented a better scheme. However, we discovered that Lu et al.'s scheme is still susceptible to malicious insider attack and non-compliant to perfect forward secrecy. This study presents a critical review on Lu et al.'s scheme and then proposes a secure multi-server authentication scheme. The security properties of contributed work are validated with automated Proverif tool and proved under formal security analysis.

Development of LiDAR Simulator for Backpack-mounted Mobile Indoor Mapping System

  • Backpack-mounted mapping system is firstly introduced for flexible movement in indoor spaces where satellite-based localization is not available. With the achieved advances in miniaturization and weight reduction, use of LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors in mobile platforms has been increasing, and indeed, they have provided high-precision information on indoor environments and their surroundings. Previous research on the development of backpack-mounted mapping systems, has concentrated mostly on the improvement of data processing methods or algorithms, whereas practical system components have been determined empirically. Thus, in the present study, a simulator for a LiDAR sensor (Velodyne VLP-16), was developed for comparison of the effects of diverse conditions on the backpack system and its operation. The simulated data was analyzed by visual inspection and comparison of the data sets' statistics, which differed according to the LiDAR arrangement and moving speed. Also, the data was used as input to a point-cloud registration algorithm, ICP (Iterative Closest Point), to validate its applicability as pre-analysis data. In fact, the results indicated centimeter-level accuracy, thus demonstrating the potentials of simulation data to be utilized as a tool for performance comparison of pointdata processing methods.
