Purpose Local governments in each region actively hold local festivals for the purpose of promoting the region and revitalizing the local economy. Existing studies related to local festivals have been actively conducted in tourism and related academic fields. Empirical studies to understand the effects of latent variables on local festivals and studies to analyze the regional economic impacts of festivals occupy a large proportion. Despite of practical need, since few researches have been conducted to predict the number of visitors, one of the criteria for evaluating the performance of local festivals, this study developed a model for predicting the number of visitors through various observed variables using a machine learning algorithm and derived its implications. Design/methodology/approach For a total of 593 festivals held in 2018, 6 variables related to the region considering population size, administrative division, and accessibility, and 15 variables related to the festival such as the degree of publicity and word of mouth, invitation singer, weather and budget were set for the training data in machine learning algorithm. Since the number of visitors is a continuous numerical data, random forest, Adaboost, and linear regression that can perform regression analysis among the machine learning algorithms were used. Findings This study confirmed that a prediction of the number of visitors to local festivals is possible using a machine learning algorithm, and the possibility of using machine learning in research in the tourism and related academic fields, including the study of local festivals, was captured. From a practical point of view, the model developed in this study is used to predict the number of visitors to the festival to be held in the future, so that the festival can be evaluated in advance and the demand for related facilities, etc. can be utilized. In addition, the RReliefF rank result can be used. Considering this, it will be possible to improve the existing local festivals or refer to the planning of a new festival.
The region of Southeast Asia had already experienced rapid urbanization and cultural change before the East Asia region did. None the less, nowadays shophouses and rowhouses still form the major portion of streets in Chinese town in Southeast Asia countries. The purpose of this study is to examine the adaptation process of shophouse and rowhouse in the Southeast Asia region and the architectural characteristics between the middle of 18th and the early of 20th, which Chinese people of the region inherit and develop, for more thorough understanding of cultural adaptability and regionalism of Chinese architecture in Southeast Asia. The common fact found in the Southeast Asia region is that Chinese people in countries of this region gradually started to live densely as a group in a certain zone in city area since they got to play important roles in commerce, trade and service works related with cities, due to European countries' advance into Southeast Asia and their construction of colonial cities in the region. Chinese people in the region utilized residential rowhouse and special shophouse, which is a kind of shop adapted from rowhouses' sitting room or storage, for their commercial and industrial activities in urban areas, which had problems of limited space. They also realized high densities through vertical expansion of space in order to adjust to changing urban structure under execution of urban planning in cities of colonial area and rapid urbanization. Even though residence of Chinese in Southeast Asia was influenced by new political, social, economic and cultural rules of European colonies in Southeast Asia, it has continuously succeeded to the cultural tradition of China, their home country, in terms of planning principle which puts air well in the middle and hierarchial spacial construction method. Appearance of the open connected verandah, designed by Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore, can be regarded as one of the architectural characters. Hence, Chinese residence in cities of Southeast Asia can be understood as a new regional architectural culture in the context of European countries' urban planning and urbanization of colonial areas, Immigrants from southern China and their role, their adjustment to urban areas by utilizing mixed type houses of residence and business, cultural tradition of Chinese home country.
It has been more than ten years that the studies in the field of social gerontology I Korean had begun. But there had been no empirical study on this field about the published articles. This study intend to analyze and evaluate those achievements synthetically focusing on the past articles on the aged in Korea which had been published till March, 1980. And also intend to prepare a movement for the purpose of utilizing and fixing those past articles in order to contribute to the social gerontology I Korean. Used raw materials are as follows; 1) research papers of every college 2) thesis of annex research institute of every college 3) reports of academic institutes and organizations annex research institute of every college 30 reports of academic institutes and organizations 4) 42 copies of raw materials of seminars and doctoral dissertations and 3 independent volumes. In order to describe what kind of researches has been done in the field of social gerontology, categorized in six items focusing on the selected studies. 1) Process of unfolding and definitions of social gerontology 2) Economic life of old people 3) Works, Retirement, loneliness and alienation of the old people 4) Domestic management of old people 5) Medical and health aspects of old people 6) Welfare of old people These problems has been exposed through this research. Firstly almost every studies are descriptive and diagnostic rather than scientific for the theoretic development of gerontology. secondly it is difficult to generalize for the purpose of utilizing the outcome of researches I the broader and deeper sense those researches has been done in regional level. Thirdly there hadn't been any researches over the entire country in the governmental level. Thus it is impossible to deduce and analyze comparatively on the ground of governmental data.

To estimate the WTP(Willingness to Pay) for consistent maintenance of rural multi-cultural families' contribution worth such as vitality of rural population, regional economic vitalization, cultural diversity of rural, maintenance of rural family society, and diversity of rural resource, a questionnaire survey was conducted by double-bounded dichotomous choice method based on Weibull model in 41 city county of rural. A estimation models based on Tunball models were developed and applied to WTP estimation with logistic analysis. WTP estimates for consistent maintenance of multi-cultural contribution worth by rural resident was 458 hundred million won. It means that each rural household can pay 13,840 won per annual. WTP estimates assessed by multi-cultural families' husband as a criteria for comparison was 502 hundred million won. It means that each household can pay 15,170 won per annual.
The PBD (Plastic Board Drain) method is one of effective ground improvement methods on the soft dredging reclamation ground. This method has outstanding economic efficiency and constructability, and it is widely used for the soft ground improvement. However, the PBD method reduces permeability and drainage capacity of the ground due to the long construction period. Therefore, the nano coated Plastic drain board (PDB) was developed to solve problems. It is the non-metallic electrode and improves the weakness of the PBD method by using electric force of the electro-osmosis method. Various researches have been conducted to apply the nano coated PDB, but these researches were limited to model tests in laboratory. In this study, model and field tests were conducted to assess field applicability of the nano coated PDB. The result showed that the nano coated PDB had the better effect on the ground improvement compared to the normal PDB.
Down-town community is an essential element for ESSD. But the population of down-town has been decreased since 1990's. Therefore this study is about how to improve the down-town residential tendency through the civic research, examination of related policies and legal system. And the result is as follows. First, Taegu has lots of problems as a residential space, that are caused by bad residential environment. They also, however, represent the validity of arrangement of down-town community and we could find the possibility for development. Second, Japan perceived the importance of down-town community and a great deal of effort was done to save residential space with various programs. But it is ignored in Korea for economic reason. Therefore we need to change our view of Down-town residence. Third, the role of government, people and specialist are important for the improvement of Down-town community. 1) The central government and ask its responsibility. 2) The local government makes the best use of present laws and is required of management with elasticity in favor of the regional character. And it need to set the future image and aim of the city. The aim should be the one that meets the practical need of down-town community and suitable programs need to be activated. 3) Generally, the citizens who are living in a region know it's problems the best. So the citizens themselves can advertise their Down-town community and participate to solve its problems 4) Down-town community requires a differential policy from general residence. Thus the professional have duty for the development of proper know-hows for Down-town community.
This study closely examines domestic supplementary measures implemented for Free Trade Agreements (FTA) concerning the agriculture and livestock industry and finds out their problems and put forward improvement measures in terms of their system and contents. The systematic problems with previously established supplementary measures are as follows. First, the existing short and long term measures does not comply with each FTA's special and unique economical, political and legislative purpose. Secondly, they focus on improvements for individual FTAs. They must be holistic and integrative considering all FTAs, thus producing synergy to reach better policy overall. Lastly, FTA policies and the measures must reflect the expanding size and scope of regional economic integration. Problems or concerns in existing supplementary measures include first, flexible financing. The government hands out loans to players in the industry based on assets but these loans must be flexible to market interest changes and must include reduced mortgage rate options. Secondly, rigid standards that trigger direct loss prevention, establishing maximum and minimum loan limits, and developing a comprehensive standard for identifying crops to support are all problems that need to be addressed. Thirdly, education of next and future agricultural generation is paramount in building a competitive workforce. Fourthly, the government must identify industries lacking in performance or short in supply to cease or reducing funding. Last but not least, the government should actively search for new markets for export and produce long term road maps for export growth.
Since Deng Xiaoping's implementation of the "One China, Two Systems" policy, mainland China and the other Chinese regions of Hong Kong and Macau have cooperated in various ways to work towards successfully developing China's overall economy and industries. Particularly, cooperation between Guangdong Province and adjoining Hong Kong have been contributing to China's development, and this study explores their industry conditions including their current two governments policies designed to promote collaboration. The two partners were in a cooperative relationship even before the handover of Hong Kong, beginning with a "front shop, back factory" model built on their respective comparative advantages in labor-intensive industries in the 1980s. This cooperation effectively propelled the Pearl River Delta Region's industrialization process and enabled Hong Kong to transform from a manufacturing industry-based economy to a service industry-based economy. From the early 2000s, Guangdong and Hong Kong diversified their collaboration project from culture to high-tech. Also, both authorities produced several types of policies not only to promote both industries but also to harmonize their two different economic levels and models. As a result, the Guangdong and Hong Kong economies have developed remarkably well during the past two decades and continue to form future plans that carry plenty of optimism. Nonetheless, this study showed discrepancies between engineers and scientists from the two areas in their perception of their technology and science cooperation. Hong Kong experts were more negative in their responses but noted some successes of the collaboration, while Guangdong's group showed overall positive responses. This difference results from an unbalanced role in cooperation. Hong Kong's side responds to cooperation plans and takes on leading roles with more frequency than Guangdong's side in actual cooperation project processes.

The Yellow Sea and the East China Sea are the most important fishing grounds for the fishing industry of Korea, China and Japan which are major coastal states of these Seas. But the fishery resources in these fishing grounds are almost exhausted and also the sea region is seriously polluted. Accordingly an international joint countermeasure is necessary to recover the fishery resources and to keep the fishery a continuous industry. The authors inspected the existing fishery policies and international fishery relationship of the three coastal states, and suggested rational conservation and management regime of the fishery resources in these sea regions. 1. At present the legal status of the sea region beyond territorial sea is the high sea, for that reason the international cooperation is urgently needed to establish common regime for conservation and management of the fishery resources. 2. A series of scientific research on ecological system of fishery resources must be carried out in the sea region first of all for that purpose. 3. The existing Korea-Japanese Fishery Agreement and Sino-Japanese Fishery Agreement should be reformed to coincide with the new legal order of the UNLOS Convention, and the Sino-Korean Fishery Agreement should be concluded newly on the identical line. 4. As a conclusion, a joint conservation and management regime through a regional fishery organization or a individual conservation and management regime through the promulgation of exclusive economic zone by each state can be suggested to resolve the fishery resources conservation problem in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea.
Since 1962, Korea has made a remarkable progress with continuous success of Five-Year Economic Development Plans. Over the last 30 years, Korea has achieved a fast growth in various industries including heavy industry and chemical industry with rapid urbanization at the same time. The fast industrialization and urbanization brought about huge amount of hazardous/toxic substances and wastes. The environmental pollution problems have now emerged from regional concerns to overall social issues accordingly. The situation has come to a point where pollution control and environment preservation have become one of the nation's major policies. Following the recent Earth Summit of UNCED Conference held in Riode Janeiro in June 1992, where the topic was environmentally sound and sustainable development, awareness upon the importance of environmental preservation has been heightened globally, The environmental issues will gradually influence the international society more and more, politically as well as economically, The environmental pollution control industry in Korea started in the early 70's with the development of the nation's industrialization, As the people's awareness on pollution increases and environmental laws and enforcing regulations were established, demand for pollution control began to increase. The environmental pollution control business came to be recognized as an independent industry in the mid'70's. It should be evaluated properly that over the last 30 years, the Korean pollution control industry has supplied locally manufactured pollution control facilities to the increasing local demand. Concerning the quality and customer satisfaction, however, there are still many aspects which need to be improved compared with those of advanced countries. Although the start of the pollution control industry in Korea is just 10 to 15 years behind the advanced countries such as Japan and European countries, current gap in the environmental technology is rather considerable. And, studies should be made to find out the reasons for the current technology gap, and therefore, to implement solutions to improve the technology and competitiveness of the environmental pollution control industry in Korea.
