A Study on the Difference of Residential Consciousness by Regional Comparison of the Elderly in Korea (도시와 농촌 거주에 따른 한국노인의 주의식 차이에 관한 조사연구)

  • Korea is facing a serious elderly problem, because the elderly population and households have been increasing radically. To cope with the coming elderly problem, social welfare services and elderly housing need to be carefully prepared. Especially, elderly housing has been recognized to be promising to solve the great portion of the problem. In this point of view, I attempted, in this study, to show the theoretical bases on the residential environment for the elderly households and their residential consciousness. I make a survey of residential consciousness of the elderly on 575 Koreans aged 60 or more, and analyze the difference of residential consciousness of them by regional comparison of the elderly. The result of this study will be expected to be a reference to the housing planning for the elderly household in Korea.

A Study on Regional Differences in Healthcare in Korea: Using Position Value for Relative Comparison Index (한국 지역 간 보건의료수준의 상대적 위치 비교 연구: Position Value for Relative Comparison Index를 활용하여)

  • Background: This study aims to measure regional healthcare differences in Korea, and define relatively underserved areas. Methods: We employed position value for relative comparison index (PARC) to measure the healthcare status of 250 areas using 137 indicators in five following domains: healthcare demand, supply, accessibility, service utilization, and outcome. We performed a sensitivity analysis using t-SNE (t-distributed stochastic neighboring embedding). Results: Based on PARC values, 83 areas were defined as relatively underserved areas, 49 of which were categorized as moderate and 34 as severe. The provincial regions with the most underserved areas were Gyeongbuk (16 areas), Gangwon (13), Jeonnam (13), and Gyeongnam (12). Conclusion: This study suggests a relative comparison approach to define relatively underserved areas in healthcare. Further studies incorporating various perspectives and methods are required for policy implications.

Comparison of Linear Accelerator and Helical Tomotherapy Plans for Glioblastoma Multiforme Patients

  • Background: Despite advances in radiotherapy, overall survival of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients is still poor. Moreover dosimetrical analyses with these newer treatment methods are insufficient. The current study is aimed to compare intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) linear accelerator (linac) and helical tomotherapy (HT) treatment plans for patients with prognostic aggressive brain tumors. Material and Methods: A total of 20 GBM patient plans were prospectively evaluated in both linac and HT planning systems. Plans are compared with respect to homogenity index, conformity index and organs at risk (OAR) sparing effects of the treatments. Results: Both treatment plans provided good results that can be applied to GBM patients but it was concluded that if the critical organs with relatively lower dose constraints are closer to the target region, HT for radiotherapeutical application could be preferred. Conclusion: Tomotherapy plans were superior to linear accelerator plans from the aspect of OAR sparing with slightly broader low dose ranges over the healthy tissues. In case a clinic has both of these IMRT systems, employment of HT is recommended based on the observed results and future re-irradiation strategies must be considered.

Comparative Analysis of regional and at-site frequency for the design rainfall by Log-Pearson Type III Distribution (Log-Pearson Type III 분포형에 의한 강우의 점빈도 및 지역빈도 비교분석)

  • This study was conducted to compare the design rainfall derived by the at-site and regional frequency analysis based on the regionalization of the precipitation. The regional and at-site design rainfalls were calculated by Log-Pearson type III distribution using Indirect Methods of Moments(WRC). The regional and at-site analysis for the design rainfall were tested by Monte Carlo simulation. Relative root-mean-square error(RRMSE), Relative bias(RBIAS) and Relative reduction(RR) in RRMSE were computed and compared between design rainfalls resulted from observed and simulated data using the regional and at-site analysis. It was shown that the regional analysis procedure can substantially reduce the RRMSE, RBIAS in comparison with those of at-site analysis. Consequently, optimal design rainfalls following the regions and consecutive durations were derived by the regional frequency analysis.

The Effect of Inversion Layer on the Land and Sea Breeze Circulations near the Gangneung (역전층이 강릉시 주변 해륙풍 순환에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The effect of inversion layer on the land and sea breeze near the Gangneung city was investigated. The land and sea breeze occurrence days were selected, and the height and the intensity of inversion layer were calculated with the upper air observational data of the Sokcho Station. The relationships between the temperature variation near the Gangneung and the inflow time, inland penetration and the inflow depth of the land and sea breeze were also analyzed. And the Gangwon Short-range prediction system was verified with the comparison of surface stream line by the Gangwon short-range prediction system with the AWS wind vector data. It was revealed that the inversion layer tended to block the sea breeze, shorten the inland penetration distance and lower the inflow depth, causing the temperature rise. The comparison and analysis of surface steam line by the Gangwon short-range prediction system and the AWS wind vector showed that the system quite well simulated the sea breeze, thus the system could be well utilized in the prediction of land and sea breeze.

Study on Priorities of Regional Climate Change Policy (기후변화정책 우선순위 연구)

  • This study aims to analyze the priority of regional climate change policy utilizing AHP (analytic hierarchy process) at the area of Metropolitan City of Incheon. It derives four factors at first hierarchical level, at which level the analysis of pair-wise comparison indicates that industrial sector, energy sector, climate change response, and green culture policy are considered important in that order. It also ends up with sixteen factors at second level. The result of comparison analysis between all factors reveals that investment promotion in green technology R&D is considered the most significant factor of all, followed by establishment of green enterprise support system, electricity-efficiency enhancement support project and build-up of green culture policy governance. The result implies that diverse promotional policies have to incorporate business, institutional, and cultural aspects for sustainable climate change policy of regions. The contribution of this study is that it highlights the need to include regional characteristics in deciding priority among policy options for them to be effective.

  • This paper have examined how industrial restructuring had been undertaken in response to economic crises in both Stuttgart, the hometown of the German automaker Daimler-Benz and Turin, that of the Italian automaker Fiat, in terms of changes in regional governances. Based upon this comparison, their micro dynamics have been examined that the transformation of automotive production systems from vertical integration to vertical disintegration had produced different regional development paths. It is argued that the recent transformation of auto production systems does not lead to a global convergence, but it reveals a local divergence based upon its locally embedded heritages, which is closely related to regional governances among the economic agents in question.
