  • This study examines the characteristics of service economies and their impacts on the spatial transformation of Korea during the last IS years. This study reviews the different perspectives for the tertiarization Process. It focuses on the spatial variation in the growth and location of Producer service industries. Based on the analyses of industrial and occupational compositions, services. particularly producer services, have played a major role in creating new job opportunities since the late 1980s. The ratio of services to merchandise trade is approximately 1:4, but service trades have increased since the early 1990s. Producer service activities have grown very rapidly, and the information processing service has been over-concentrated in Seoul. Further headquarters of bank and insurance services are overwhelmingly concentrated into Seoul. The firms whose headquarters are located in Seoul have linkage Pattern on a nationwide scale. The pattern of employment growth in producer services shows a clear core-Periphery disparity. In the light of the observed pattern of regional differentiation in producer service employment, some wider implications of the distribution of producer service activities for regional economic Performance are considered.

  • This paper analyzes the relationships among the energy consumption, renewable energy production, real gross regional domestic product(GRDP), and greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions. It uses the metropolitan city and province level data for Korea from 2010 to 2018, employing a panal vector autoregressive(VAR) model. We find that an increase in energy consumption has a limited impact on boosting renewable energy production or gross regional domestic product, while it leads to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions. A rise in renewable energy production can increase gross regional domestic product, but it has no meaningful effects on energy consumption and the reduction of green house gas emissions. Our finding indicates that it is crucial to expand the supply of renewable energy as well as to decrease energy consumption in order to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reaching economic growth.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of exports on Korea's employment and to decompose driving factors of change in Korea's employment embodied in exports (EEX). This study uses a multi-regional input-output (MRIO) and structural decomposition analysis (SDA) for empirical analysis, and uses a dataset of World Input-Output Tables (WIOTs) and Socio-Economic Accounts (SEAs) from the World Input-Output Database (WIOD). The main findings of the empirical results are summarized as follows. First, Korea's EEX continues to increase and Korea's share of EEX compared to total employment shows an upward trend. However, Korea's employment inducement coefficient of value-added exports showed a downward trend during the 2000-2014 period. Second, final demand from three countries (China, the United States, and the Rest of the World (RoW)) has affected a significant portion of Korea's EEX. Finally, from the results of the SDA, the effect of changes in final demand was the most important driving factor for the increase in Korea's EEX. Based on the results of this empirical analysis, this study discusses useful policy implications that could increase domestic employment in Korea.

  • Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the trauma volume and performance indicators during the first 5-year period of operation in a single regional trauma center. Methods: We analyzed prospectively collected data from the Korean Trauma Data Bank for a single regional trauma center between January 2014 and December 2018. More than 250 variables were analyzed. We calculated the predicted survival rates using the trauma and injury severity score (TRISS) method. Results: In total, there were 16,103 trauma admissions during the first 5 years; trauma activation was performed in 5,105 of these cases. Over 70% of the patients were men, and most of the admitted patients were within the age groups of 55-59 years for men and 75-79 years for women. Analyses were performed considering two patient groups: the total patient group and the group of those with severe trauma (injury severity score [ISS] >15). The median ISS, revised trauma score, and TRISS of the two groups were 5 (interquartile range [IQR] 4-10), 22 (IQR 17-27), and 7.6±0.99 and 6.74±1.9, 0.95±0.13, 0.81±2.67, respectively. Of the total patient group, 801 patients (5%) died in the hospital, whereas of the group of patients with ISS >15, 526 (19.5%) died. The direct transportation of patients to the regional trauma center increased year by year. The emergency room stay time and time to entering the operating room showed a decrease until 2017; however, these parameters increased again in 2018. Conclusions: The trauma volume in the regional trauma center is appropriate, and some improvements could be observed after its establishment. However, performance indicators reveal the prematurity of the trauma center and its potential for further improvements. Moreover, the development of a national trauma system, beyond regional trauma centers, is required.

  • The economic growth of China, an average of 9% as an external performance, has caused lots of side effects in the country. The social issues such as income gap, especially the wide gap between the rich and poor, and regional divide are the main cause of concerns that China's economic growth is not sustainable. It prompted the Chinese government to realize that institutional regulations on CSR are not optional but required to promote the sustainable development of corporations. In 2006, CSR was addressed for the first time in China, as the government established the November 5 Plan and revised "Company Law". The government garnered social attention by introducing CSR for the first time in November 5 Plan. Also, the government established December 5 Plan in 2011 to set a key goal as 'sustainable development' and reflect concrete measures for CSR in its corporate policy. In particular, Commercial Bank has a social responsibility to establish more concrete, forceful regulations than those of general corporations, as a financial intermediary. Thus, this study is aimed at exploring how the social responsibility of Commercial Bank is reflected in the Banking Act, the issues, and legislative directions on the social responsibility of Commercial Bank in China.

  • In this study, distribution of population with economic activities in ingress step to advanced-age society, the current status for the economic activities of old people and the necessity of economic activities through employment and inauguration for old people were investigated. The current status for the economic activities of old people and the changes of economic activities since IMF were also reviewed, and the activation of senior club in regional society and establishment of old man power bank were proposed. The speed of ingress to advanced-age society in Korea is so fast compared with other developed countries that the participation in economic activities of old people is urgent for international competitiveness and their economic independence. Up to now, due to the related regulations and institutional inertia, the practical support of employment and inauguration has not been achieved, but, the practical support should be achieved by solving the problems regarding the regulations and institution.

  • Present study deals with the development of a numerical model for the estimation of net annual recharge by coupling the Galerkin's finite element flow simulationl model with the Gauss-Newton-Marquardt optimization technique. The developed coupled numerical model is applied for estimating net annual recharge for Mahi Right Bank Canal (MRBC) project the norms of Groundwater Resources Estimation committee (1984, 1997) and Indian Agricultural research Institute(1983). It is observed that the estimated net recharge by inverse modeling is closer to the net recharge estimated using the water balance approach. Further it is observed that the computed head distribution from the estimated recharge agree closely with the observed head distribution. The study concludes that the developed model for inverse modeling can be successfully applied to large groundwater system involving regional aquifers where reliable recharge estimation always requires considerable time and financial resources.

  • We have done the input-output analysis to see the over all impact of flounder industry of Jeju region on the domestic economy of Korea. To do the input-output analysis, we have constructed the data set for the input-output table by using the existing data set in the "2003 input- output table of Jeju regional area" published by the joint work of Jeju branch of Korea bank and the Jeju Development Institute, together with some raw data provided by Jejudo Marine Fish-Culture Cooperative. We have also produced input coefficient of flounder industry by making flounder industrial sector exogenous, separated from intermediate demand. To summarize our empirical results, the inducement effect of production, value added, and employment of Jeju flounder aquaculture industry are 300 billion won, 116 billion won and 1,800 people respectively. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest flounder industry of Jeju region contributes powerfully to not only Jeju economy but also all over the Korea economy.

  • As Korea's water resources are dominated by intense summer rainfall and steep mountainous territory, it is inevitable for most of the rainfall in Korea to flow into sea immediately and directly. It cannot help having severe conditions which droughts and floods occur repeatedly due to the seasonal and geological conditions in Korea. Those kinds of disasters will be expected more frequently and seriously in the future because of the unexpected climate changes in the world. Therefore, Korean government will plan to develop small and medium-size dams environmentally friendly, multi-regional water supply system continuously and alternative water resources such as river bank filtrations, rainwater storages and underground dams, in order to prevent floods as well as to secure stable water supply.

  • This study was conducted to selected Korean black raspberry (Rubus coreanus Miq.) for high productivity. The eight major agronomic traits were investigated from 198 clones of the clone bank established in Korea Forest Research Institute, Suwon, Korea. The selection levels based on number of fruit per fructify lateral (NFFL) over 20, and fruit weight (FW) over 1.3g, and yield of individual per fructify lateral (YIFL) over 25g, were applied on 198 clones, resulted in 17 clones selected. The selected superior trees, 17 clones, appeared regional differences for amount of fruiting among 4 different test sites. When number of fruit per fruit petiole (NRFP), fruit weight (FW), yield of individual (YI) and sugar content were satisfied over 20, 1.4g, 6kg and 9.5 brix, respectively, as a select condition, 5 clones were reselected as the superior trees among 17 clones. for 3 years.
