In this paper, we propose a watermarking method for protecting the ownership of three-dimensional (3D) content generated from depth and texture images. After selecting the target areas to preserve the watermark by depth-image-based rendering, the reference viewpoint image is moved right and left in the depth map until the maximum viewpoint change is obtained and the overlapped region is generated for marking space. The region is divided into four subparts and scanned. After applying discrete cosine transform, the watermarks are inserted. To extract the watermark, the viewpoint can be changed by referring to the viewpoint image and the corresponding depth image initially, before returning to the original viewpoint. The watermark embedding and extracting algorithm are based on quantization. The watermarked image is attacked by the methods of JPEG compression, blurring, sharpening, and salt-pepper noise.

In this paper, I propose a method which can enhance the visual quality of IRST images based on a loaded location in ship and an AOS. The IRST adjusts an AOS to detect targets with various altitudes because of its narrow vertical field of view and offers various functions to enhance images with its low contrast. In the proposed method, images are divided into two regions of sea and sky on the basis of the horizon after establishing relation between an AOS and a horizon location within an image. As a result, image enhancement of the proposed method is performed adaptively according to the divided region while that of conventional method is performed for entire image without the region division. Simulation results show that the proposed method represents higher visibility compared with conventional one.

In this study, we introduce a new image gradient computation based on understanding of image generation. Most images consist of groups of pixels with similar color information because the images are generally obtained by taking a picture of the real world. The general gradient operator for an image compares only the neighboring pixels and cannot obtain information about a wide area, and there is a risk of falling into a local minimum problem. Therefore, it is necessary to attempt to introduce the gradient operator of the interval concept. We present a bow-tie gradient by color values of pixels on bow-tie region of a given pixel. To confirm the superiority of our study, we applied our bow-tie gradient to image segmentation algorithms for various images.
Image Guided Surgery (IGS) system which has variously tried in medical engineering fields is able to give a surgeon objective information of operation process like decision making and surgical planning. This information is displayed through 3D images which are acquired from image modalities like CT and MRI for pre-operation. The technique of image registration is necessary to construct IGS system. Image registration means that 3D model and the object operated by a surgeon are matched on the common frame. Major techniques of registration in IGS system have been used by recognizing fiducial markers placed on the object. However, this method has been criticized due to additional trauma, its invasive protocol inserting fiducial markers in patient's bone and generating noise data when 2D slice images are acquired by image modality because many markers are made of metal. Therefore, this paper developed shape-based registration technique to improve the limitation of fiducial marker based IGS system. Iterative Closest Points (ICP) algorithm was used to match corresponding points and quaternion based rotation and translation transformation using closed form solution applied to find the optimized cost function of transformation. we assumed that this algorithm were used in Total Knee replacement (TKR) operation. Accordingly, we have developed region-based 3D registration technique based on anatomical landmarks and this registration algorithm was evaluated in a femur model. It was found that region-based algorithm can improve the accuracy in 3D registration.

In fingerprint verification and identification, fingerprint and background region should be segmented. For this purpose, most systems obtain variance of brightness of X and Y direction using Sobel mask. To decide given local region is background or not, the variance is compared with a certain threshold. Although this method is simple, most fingerprint image does not separated with two region of fingerprint and background region. In this paper, we presented a new segmentation algorithm based on run-length connectivity analysis. For a given binary image after thresholding, suggested algorithm calculates RL of X and Y direction. Until the given image is segmented to two regions, small run region is successively inverted. Experimental result show that this algorithm effectively separates fingerprint region and background region.

In this paper, we propose an image enhancement algorithm to improve license plate extraction rate in various environments (Day Street, Night Street, Underground parking lot, etc.). The proposed algorithm is composed of image enhancement algorithm and license plate extraction algorithm. The image enhancement method can improve an image quality of the degraded image, which utilizes a histogram information and overall gray level distribution of an image. The proposed algorithm employs an interpolated probability distribution value (PDV) in order to control a sudden change in image brightness. Probability distribution value can be calculated using cumulative distribution function (CDF) and probability density function (PDF) of the captured image, whose values are achieved by brightness distribution of the captured image. Also, by adjusting the image enhancement factor of each part region based on image pixel information, it provides a function that can adjust the gradation of the image in more details. This processed gray image is converted into a binary image, which fuses narrow breaks and long thin gulfs, eliminates small holes, and fills gaps in the contour by using morphology operations. Then license plate region is detected based on aspect ratio and license plate size of the bound box drawn on connected license plate areas. The images have been captured by using a video camera or a personal image recorder installed in front of the cars. The captured images have included several license plates on multilane roads. Simulation has been executed using OpenCV and MATLAB. The results show that the extraction success rate is more improved than the conventional algorithms.

Feature identification is one of the largest issue in high spatial resolution satellite imagery. A popular method associated with this feature identification is image segmentation to produce image segments that are more likely to features interested. Here, it is, proposed that combination of edge extraction and region growing methods for image segments were used to improve the result of image segmentation. At the intial step, an image was segmented by edge detection method. The segments were assigned IDs, and polygon topology of segments were built. Based on the topology, the segments were tested their similarities with adjacent segments using multivariate analysis. The segments that have similar spectral characteristics were merged into a region. The test application shows that the segments composed of individual large, spectrally homogeneous structures, such as buildings and roads, were merged into more similar shape of structures.
This study presents a method to segment an image, employing the statistics observed at each pixel location across sequential frame images. In the acquisition and analysis of spatial information, utilization of digital image processing technique has very important implications. Various image segmentation techniques have been presented to distinguish the area of digital images. In this study, based on the analysis of the spectroscopic characteristics of sequential frame images that had been previously researched, an image segmentation method was proposed by using the randomness occurring among a sequence of frame images for a same scene. First of all, we computed the mean and standard deviation values at each pixel and found reliable pixels to determine seed points using their standard deviation value. For segmenting an image into individual regions, we conducted region growing based on a T-test between reference and candidate sample sets. A comparative analysis was conducted to assure the performance of the proposed method with reference to a previous method. From a set of experimental results, it is confirmed that the proposed method using a sequence of frame images segments a scene better than a method using a single frame image.

In this paper, we proposed a method of content-based image retrieval using variable region. Content-based image retrieval uses color histogram for the most part. But the existing color histogram methods have a disadvantage that it reduces accuracy because of quantization error and absence of spatial information. In order to overcome this, we convert color information to HSV space, quantize hue factor being pure color information, and calculate histogram of the factor. On the other hand, to solve the problem of the absence of spatial information, we select object region in consideration of color feature and region correlation. It maintains the size of region in the selected object region. But non-object region is integrated in one region. After of selection variable region, we retrieve using color feature. As the result of experimentation, the proposed method improves 10$\%$ in average of precision.

In this paper, a range image segmentation method is proposed. This method consists of an initial segmentation stage by discontinuous edge detection and surface type labeling based on the sign of the principal curvatures. Initially type labeled image is oversegmented, this image is merged via stepwise optimal region merging stage based on polynomial function approxiamtion. The successful segmentation results are presented for two synthetic range images with noise and a real-world ERIM range image.
