The Effect of HCl Gas on Selective Catalytic Reduction of Nitrogen Oxide (질소산화물의 선택적 환원 제거시 염화수소기체가 촉매에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is aimed at investigating an effect of HCl gas on selective reduction of NOx over a CuHM and $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ catalyst. SCR process is the most effective method to remove NOx, but catalyst can be deactivated by the acidic gas such as HCl gas which is also included in flue gas from the incinerator. In dry condition of flue gas, the CuHM catalyst treated by HCl gas has shown higher NO removal activity than the fresh catalyst. The activity of the catalyst can be restored by treating at $500^{\circ}C$. On the contrary. $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ catalyst is obviously deactivated by HCl and the deactivation increases in proportion to the concentration of HCl gas. The deactivated catalyst is not restored to it's original activity by heat treatment for regeneration. In wet flue gas stream, the CuHM catalyst has shown lower activity than fresh catalyst and $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ catalyst was severely deactivated by HCl treatment. The activity loss of catalysts are mainly due to the decrease of Br$\ddot{o}$nsted acid site on the catalyst surface by $NH_3$ TPD. The change of BET surface area of CuHM catalyst after the reaction isn't observed but $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ catalyst is observed. The amount of $Cu^{{+}{+}}$ and $V_2O_5$ is decreased after the reaction. From these results, it is expected that CuHM catalyst should be better than $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ catalyst for its application to the incineration of flue gas.

Influence of Driving Pattern on Regeneration Performance of Continuously Regenerating Diesel Particulate Filter (연속재생 DPF의 재생 성능에 미치는 차량 운행패턴의 영향)

  • This paper is to investigate the influence of driving patterns of slow and high speed vehicles on the performance of continuously regenerating diesel particulate filter(DPF) system matched with operating conditions in field application. The DPF performance test for field application was carried out for two identical DPFs installed to slow and high speed vehicles. A slow speed vehicle was selected among local buses which have driving patterns to repeat running and stop frequently, while a high speed vehicle was prepared to have long route of high speed over 60km/h like inter-city buses. In this test, the regeneration performance on the DPF of slow speed vehicle deteriorated because of high soot load index(SLI) in spite of same balance point temperature(BPT) distribution for high speed vehicle. The DPF of slow speed vehicle melted in the end because the rapid increase of back pressure caused high temperature over $1200^{\circ}C$ in the ceramic wall of DPF. The PM components like ash collected to the filter in the DPF were analyzed in order to investigate the cause of the defect and provide an operation performance of DPF system. In the result of the analysis, high levels of lubrication oil ash(Ca, Mg, P, Zn) were detected.

New insights about coke deposition in methanol-to-DME reaction over MOR-, MFI- and FER-type zeolites

  • The effect of channel-system of zeolite on methanol-to-DME reaction was studied. Results revealed that channels size and topology affect catalyst lifetime, type and location of coke precursors. FER and MFI showed the best resistance towards coke deposition, whilst fast deactivation was observed on MOR. Although the higher concentration and strength of acid sites, FER structure formed a lower coke amount, preferably located within the pores, while coke cluster deposited on the external surface of MOR. Analysis of acid sites distribution and strength was performed during deactivation-regeneration process. Coke location assessment was also supported by molecular simulations.

  • Diesel PM can be controlled using Diesel Particulate Filter, which can effectively reduce the level of soot emissions to ambient background levels. In the Heavy Duty Diesel area, the Continuously Regeneration trap has been widely applied in the retrofit market. As the Special act for the improvement of air quality in the capital area, the retrofit program for DPF to used diesel vehicle has progressed favorably and there are currently over 1,000 of these DPF in use in retrofit applications in korea. These DPF comprise a specially formulated Diesel Oxidation Catalyst upstream of a DPF. The $NO_2$ generated by the DOC is used to combust the carbon collected in the DPF at low temperature. To certificate DPF device that is suitable to domestic circumstances, it is necessary to evaluate exactly the DPF devices according to the regulation of DPF certificate test procedure for retrofit(ministry of environment(MOE) announcement NO. 2005-16). To do so the understand of that regulation like the standard of PM reduction rate is needed. In this study the test procedure including test cycle and BPT test condition was examined and also the test result for specific DPF was analyzed. In every test like field test, PM reduction efficiency test and seoul-10 mode test, no defect could be showed.

  • In this study, a process model and optimization design direction for a hydrogen production plant through ammonia decomposition are presented. If the reactor decomposition rate is designed to approach 100%, the amount of catalyst increases and the devices that make up the entire system also have a large design capacity. However, if the characteristics of the hydrogen regeneration process are reflected in the design of the reactor, it becomes possible to satisfy the total flow rate of fuel gas with the discharged tail gas flow rate. Analyzing the plant process simulation results, it was confirmed that when an appropriate decomposition rate is maintained in the reactor, the phenomenon of excess or shortage of fuel gas disappears. In addition, it became possible to reduce the amount of catalyst required and design the optimized capacity of the relevant processes.

  • Flue gas control systems for small-scale combustors must be designed to provide highly effective removal of three criteria pollutants (S $O_{2}$, N $O_{x}$ and particulate matter), and must be safe, reliable and small. These requirements make dry, regenerative clean-up process particularly attractive and this paper describes a new concept for integrated pollutant control : a filter comprised of layered, gas permeable membranes that act as an S $O_{2}$ sorbant, a N $O_{x}$ reduction catalyst and a particulate filter. A mixed metal oxide sorbent, Cu-Ce was used as a sorbent/catalyst and the activity was compared with Cu-7Al. The S $O_{2}$ removal eficiency of Cu-Ce was increased with temperature increase up to 500$^{\circ}$C and the catalytic activity for NO was higher than that of Cu-7Al. By the sulfation of Cu-Ce, the reduction activity was increased at the temperature higher than 350$^{\circ}$C. The regeneration of Cu-Ce was very fast and some amount of elemental sulfar was found.

Hydrogen Generation Characteristics of SMART System with Inherent $CO_2/H_2$ Separation ($CO_2/H_2$ 원천분리 SMART 시스템의 수소생산특성)

  • To check the feasibility of SMART(Steam Methane Advanced Reforming Technology) system, an experimental investigation was performed. A fluidized bed reactor of diameter 0.052m was operated cyclically up to 10th cycle, alternating between reforming and regeneration conditions. FCR-4 catalyst was used as the reforming catalyst and calcined limestone(domestic, from Danyang) was used as the $CO_2$ absorbent. Hydrogen concentration of 98.2% on a dry basis was reached at $650^{\circ}C$ for the first cycle. This value is much higher than $H_2$ concentration of 73.6% in the reformer of conventional SMR (steam methane reforming) condition. The hydrogen concentration decreased because the $CO_2$ capture capacity decreased as the number of cycles increased. However, the average hydrogen concentration at 10th cycle was 82.5% and this value is also higher than that of SMR. Based on these results, we could conclude that the SMART system can replace SMR system to generate pure hydrogen without HTS (high tempeature shift), LTS (low temperature shift) and $CO_2$ separation process.

  • PEM 연료전지에 있어서 수분의 균형이 연료전지의 시스템 성능에 현저한 영향을 미친다. 그래서 수분 균형은 가장 중요한 요소 중의 일부가 되었으며, 이에 관한 연구가 광범위하게 이루어지고 있다. 적절한 수분 균형을 유지하기 위해서는 적당한 멤브레인 수화작용(membrane hydration)이 필요하며, 반대로 촉매층(catalyst layer)에서의 익수(water flooding)현상이 없어져야 한다. 따라서 이와 같은 동적 상태에서 PEM 연료전지 내의 수분 균형을 유지하기 위해서는, 고도의 동적 수분 조정 기술이 확보되어야 한다. 현재의 연구는 이러한 특성을 고려하여 PEM 연료전지에서 동적부하 상태에서의 수분 이동에 관한 일차원 해석 모델에 관한 것이다. 금번 모델링의 결과, 양극촉매층(CCL, cathode catalystlayer)에서의 수분 상태는 거의 포화 단계에 이르고 있음을 보여주고 있으며, 이 모델링은 연료전지가 작동되는 동안의 CCL에 나타나는 수분의 양상을 예측하는데 활용될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 수분 이동 모델이 국제규격에 따라 다양한 수송기관이 가동될 때, 동적부하 상태에서 서로 다른 차이점을 발견하기 위한 시뮬레이션 결과에 초점이 맞추어져 있다. 이 모델링을 적용한 결과, 수분 포화도가 상태에 따라 상이하게 나타남을 알 수 있었고, 또한 정적 수분 조절 요소에 따라 최적 상태가 모든 동적 분포에 따라 달라짐을 알 수 있었다.

Hydroxylation of Phenol over (Fe, Co)/Zeolite Catalysts for the Selective Synthesis of Catechol (카테콜의 선택적 합성을 위한(Fe, Co)/Zeolites 촉매상에서 페놀의 수산화 반응)

  • (Fe, Co)/zeolite catalysts such as (Fe, Co)/NaY, (Fe, Co)/NaBeta and (Fe, Co)/HUSY were prepared by ion-exchange method and their catalytic performance was examined in the hydroxylation of phenol with $H_2O_2$ for the production of catechol. The (Fe, Co)/NaBeta catalyst showed its best performance at reaction temperature=$70^{\circ}C$, molar ratio of phenol/$H_2O_2=3$, weight ratio of phenol/catalyst=50 and weight ratio of solvent (water)/phenol=6 as 20% of phenol conversion, 77% of the selectivity for the hydroxylation, 70% of the selectivity for catechol, and 2.5 of the formation ratio of catechol/hydroquinone. The (Fe, Co)/zeolite catalysts showed the reproducible activities without deactivation after repeated regeneration. The fresh and used(Fe, Co)/zeolites were characterized by XRD, UV-VIS DRS, and XPS and their catalytic performance was discussed based on these characterization results.

Simultaneous Application of Platinum-Supported Alumina Catalyst and Ozone Oxidant for Low-temperature Oxidation of Soot (백금담지 알루미나 촉매와 오존 산화제 동시 적용에 의한 탄소 입자상 물질의 저온 산화반응)

  • The lowering of temperature for combustion of diesel particulate matters (or diesel soot) is one of the important tasks in automotive industry that is searching for a way to meet up "high-fuel efficiency, low-emission" standard. In this study, it was discussed how the use of ozone over platinum-based catalyst promotes a low-temperature soot oxidation occurred at $150^{\circ}C$. The use of platinum catalyst did not increase oxidation rate largely but was very effective in improving the selectivity of carbon dioxide. The pre-oxidation of NO into $NO_2$ using ozone was rather crucial in improving the oxidation rate of soot at $150^{\circ}C$.
