  • A small air-conditioner or chiller for a constant temperature bath normally uses a constant speed compressor. The constant speed compressor is relatively inexpensive, but it uses on/off control for capacity modulation. The on/off control has several disadvantages, specifically energy loss and large temperature fluctuation. Continuous operation with a bypass system can be an alternative to on/off control, for capacity modulation. In this study, a heat pump system having a hot-gas bypass and a liquid bypass was adopted. The performance of the bypass-type heat pump was measured, by varying the bypass valve opening. The differences of the COP between the hot-gas bypass and the liquid bypass, in the cooling and heating operations, were within 2% and 1%, respectively. The liquid bypass showed a wider range of capacity control in the cooling operation but the hot-gas bypass showed a wider range of capacity control in the heating operation.

  • The air-side particulate fouling in the heat exchangers of HVAC applications degrades the performance of cooling capacity, pressure drop across a heat exchanger, and indoor air quality. Indoor and outdoor air contaminants foul heat exchangers. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cooling performance and pressure drop on the air-side particulate fouling of heat exchangers for air conditioners. Air conditioners being used in the field such as inn, restaurant, and office are collected in chronological used order. Test results show 15% decrease of the cooling capacity and 44% increase of the pressure drop for the 7 years air conditioners used in the seaside inn.

  • 충진농도, 냉매 팽창밸브 개도, 그리고 약용액의 유량 변화에 따른 벤치타입 암모니아-물 흡수식 열교환 사이클에 대한 실험을 수행한 결과 시스템의 충진농도가 증가할수록 냉방능력이 증가하였으며, 최적의 충진농도가 존재함을 알았다. 그리고 냉매 팽창 밸브의 개도는 응축기 출구의 직접적인 영향을 주고 있으며 최적의 과냉도가 0~4$^{\circ}C$임을 알았다. 또한 약용액의 유량이 증가시킬수록 증발압력과 강용액의 농도가 즐어들었으며, 냉방능력과 COP가 최대가 되는 최적의 약용액 유량이 존재하였다.

  • Generally, H.V.A.C load capacity in early planning phase can presume with maximum thermal load. Basic data can prove by air conditioning equipment system data analysis at existing building. There are poor and not reliable alternative presentation. In this paper, measured data after use H.V.A.C load calculation K-load program reply choosing standard building and variables simulation. And I founded peak load correlation graph and mode for several kinds of variable and contents of size. I wish that equipment designer is beaconed to produce optimum capacity at building as quantitative through this result.

  • Cycle simulation is peformed for two types of the desiccant cooling system incorporating a regenerative evaporative cooler. The cooling capacity and COP are evaluated at various effectiveness values of the regenerative evaporative cooler, the desiccant rotor and the sensible heat exchanger. As either of the effectiveness of the regenerative evaporative cooler or the humidity effectiveness of the desiccant rotor increases, both the cooling capacity and COP increase, but the enthalpy leak ratio gives the opposite effect on the system performance. It is found that COP of cycle A mainly depends on the humidity effectiveness of the desiccant rotor, while for cycle B enthalpy leak ratio of desiccant rotor has the major impact on COP. The effect of the sensible heat exchanger on the cooling capacity is small about 1/10 compared with those of other components.

자동차 흡기 에어필터의 여재 및 성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Filter Media and Performance of Intake Air Filter for Vehicular Engine)

  • Since the vehicle is regarded as the third living space, the comfortable conditions are required in the passenger compartment. For this reason, customers are concerned about the filtering performances and the importance of filter media has been greatly placed. Therefore the dust holding capacity, the efficiency of these filter media (dry paper, wet paper, non-woven) and the configuration of air filter for vehicle were measured in this study. The following results were obtained on the basis of air filter test. It shows that the thickness and poresize of filter media should be lower for the higher efficiency. The measurement result shows that the performance of round shape filters are higher than the square shape filters. The dust holding capacity of the wet paper and the non-woven paper is higher than the dry paper. As a result, this research can provide an important design parameter and product guidance of the intake air filter for vehicular engine.

  • Studies on the performance of a heat pump using non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures are done. In order to estimate the thermodynamic properties for the selected non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures including R22/R152a, R22/R142b, R22/R114 and R13B1/R152a, Peng-Robinson equation of state is adopted. The pressure-enthalpy diagram and the temperature-entropy diagram are plotted for each refrigerant mixture. Considerations on the capacity modulation for the heat pump system using refrigerant mixtures are taken into. Results show that when the heating load varies, the possibility for the capacity modulation is found in the heat pump system using a compressor with constant volume flow rate. Under a constant heating capacity condition in the heat pump system, the coefficient of performance increases when the refrigerant mixtures are used. The volume flow rate decreases as the mass fraction of lower boiler increases in this case.

해수냉각시스템 성능에 미치는 냉매배관길이의 영향 (Effect of Refrigerant Pipe Length on Sea Water Cooling System Performance)

  • The purpose of this study is analyzing the performance of sea water cooling system under various refrigerant pipe length. In sea water cooling system, the increase of refrigerant pipe length cause increases of pressure drops. These pressure drops cause fresh gas in liquid pipe and increase specific volume in gas pipe outlet, so sea water cooling system capacity is decreased by decrease of refrigerant mass flow rate. Sea water cooling system capacity in refrigerant pipe length 70m is decreased more than 30% when compared with pipe length 10m and the decrease of the coefficient of performance is nearly 20%.

  • In this paper, the effect of volute area distribution on the performance characteristic curve of a centrifugal pump were numerically studied using a commercial CFD code. To reduce the shutoff head, maintaining head and efficiency at a design flow rate, the flat head-capacity characteristic curves in which the head varies only slightly with capacity from shutoff to design capacity are frequency required. In order to control the shutoff head of a pump, several volute area distributions were proposed as a main parameter with the same impeller geometry. The calculation results show that the characteristic curve of a centrifugal pump can be controlled by modifying the area distribution with the same volute outlet area.

Revised VX흡수식 냉동사이클의수치 해석 (A Numerical Analysis of a Revised VX Absorption Cooling Cycle)

  • A revised VX cycle using ammonia/water as the working fluid is a cycle which is suitable to produce cooling utilizing low temperature hat sources. The cycle was analyzed numerically to investigate the effects of the design and operating conditions on the performance. It was shown that both COP and cooling capacity were significantly influenced by the performance of he rectifier. Insufficient UA of the rectifier reduced both ammonia mass fraction and mass flow rate of the vapor entering the condenser, which produced cooling effect in the evaporator. As the temperature and the mass flow rate of the heat source increased, both COP and exergetic efficiency decreased due to the irreversibilities produced in heat exchangers, but cooling capacity did not vary much. Cooling capacity increased significantly as the coolant temperature decreased, although COP and exergetic efficiency remained nearly constant.
