To protect the ozone layer depeletion the CFC (chlorofluorocarbon). HCFC(hydrochlorofluorocarbon) refrigerants will be replaced with HFCs (hydro-fluorocarbon) as an alternative refrigerant. In recent years a good deal of effort has been made to develop new compressors which are compatible to the new referigent. This paper focused on developing accelerated screening test for predicting tribological characteristics of the rotary compressor in atmosphere of R407C as an alternative refrigerant with polyolester lubricant. Falex wear test machine with high pressure chamber has been used to simulate friction and wear behavior of the common contact geometries found in rotary compressors.

A few commonly used correlation equations of the enthalpy of vaporization are reviewed and a new three-parameter correlation equation is proposed. Performance of the proposed equation is examined using the data listed in the ASHRAE table for 22 pure substance refrigerants. The new equation yields an average absolute deviation of $0.14\%$ for 22 refrigerants, which is better than those of other equations, such as Xiang $(0.18\%),$ Majer-SvobodaPick $(0.18\%),$ and Somayajulu equation $(0.23\%)$.

The saturated vapor density correlation proposed here relates logarithmic density to the inverse of temperature. Its performance is examined correlating the date listed in the ASHTAE tables for 40 refrigerants. The correlation equation is valid over the entire range where data point exist and gives better results than a conventional equation with the same number of adjustable coefficients. Number of terms in the equation is a variable so that great flexibility can be given to the representation of data.

In this paper, the cycle performance characteristics of a cascade refrigeration system with internal heat exchanger using natural refrigerants is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. This system considered in this study is consisted of a high temperature cycle using a carbon dioxide(R744) and low temperature cycle using refrigerants such as R290, R1270, R600a and Ethane. The main results were summarized as follows : The COP of the cascade refrigeration system of R600a with internal heat exchanger is the highest grade in low temperature cycle using refrigerants such as R290, R1270, R600a and Ethane. The COP of the cascade refrigeration system with internal heat exchanger only in high temperature cycle is the highest value among three type cycle, such as only low temperature cycle, only high temperature cycle and all the cycle.

This paper attempted to estimate the emissions of HFC-134a from scrap truck as a result of measuring the residual quantities of HFC-134a in air conditioner of scrap truck. We measured the residual amounts in the scrap truck of 138 by applying commercial recover for refrigerants. The average residual rate(disposal-phase emission factor) is reported to be $44.3{\pm}3.3%$ within a confidence interval of 95%. Recent year model trucks exhibit the higher residual rates. Little variation, however, is observed in regard to vehicle size. The HFC-134a emission quantity from scrap truck in 2011 is estimated to be 55,908 $tCO_2$-eq that demonstrates 21.4% increase to compare with that in 2007. As the numbers of truck have increased dramatically during the last two decades, the emissions of HFC-134a from scrap truck would increase sharply in the next coming years. HFC-134a is a very high GWP greenhouse gas. therefore have to reduce the emissions from the scrap truck and need to find ways to recycle. The chemical compositions of refrigerants from scrap truck are quite similar to those of new refrigerants, suggesting that the refrigerants from scrap truck could be reused as refrigerant.

Condensation heat transfer experiments were conducted with the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger without oil in a refrigerant loop using R-l34a, R-407C and R-410A. An experimental refrigerant loop has been developed to measure the condensation heat transfer coefficient h$_{r}$ and frictional pressure drop $\Delta$p$_{f}$ of the various refrigerants in a vertical oblong shell and plate heat exchanger. The effects of the refrigerant mass flux(40∼80kg/$m^2$s), average heat flux(4∼8kW/$m^2$), refrigerant saturation temperature(30∼4$0^{\circ}C$) and vapor quality of refrigerants on the measured data were explored in detail. Similar to the case of a plate heat exchanger, even at a very low Reynolds number, the flow in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger remains turbulent. A comparison of the performance of the various refrigerants revealed that R-410A had the highest heat transfer performance followed by R-l34a, and R-407C had the lowest performance of the refrigerants tested. The pressure drops were also reported in this paper. The pressure drops for R-410A were approximately 45% lower than those of R-l34a. R-407C had 30% lower pressure drops than R-l34a. Experimental results were compared with several correlations which predicted condensation heat transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drops. Comparison with the experimental data showed that the previously proposed correlations gave unsatisfactory results. Based on the present data, empirical correlations of the condensation heat transfer coefficient and the friction factor were proposed.tor were proposed.sed.
This paper presents a pressure drop correlation for evaporation and condensation of alternative refrigerant with oil in micro-fin tubes. The correlation was developed from a data base consisting of oil-free pure and mixed refrigerants in micro-fin tube; Rl25 R134a. R32 R410a(R32/R125 50/50% mass), R22, R407c(R32/R125/R134a, 23/25/52% mass) and R32/R134a(25/75% mass). The micro-fin tube used in this paper had 60 0.2mm high fins with a 18 helix angle. The cross sectional flow area $(A_c)$ was $60.8 mm^2$ giving an equivalent smooth diameter$(D_e)$ of 8.8mm. The hydraulic diameter $(D_h)$ was estimated to the 5.45mm. The new correlation was obtained by replacing the friction factor and the tube-diameter in Bo Pierre correlation by a friction factor derived from pressure drop data for a micro-fin tube and the hydraulic diameter, respectively. This correlation was also used to predict some pressure data with a lubricant after using a mixing viscosity rule of lubricants and refrigerants. As a result, the new correlation was also well predicted to the measured data within a mean deviation of 19.0%.
In this paper, cycle performance analysis of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system applied various refrigerants is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include degree of superheating and subcooling, compressor efficiency, evaporation temperature, condensing temperature, mass flow rate ration into inter-cooler, effectiveness of internal heat exchanger. The main results were summarized as follows : The COP of two-stage compression and 1-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing subcooling, mass flow rate ration of inter-cooler, evaporation temperature, but decreases with the increasing condensing temperature and superheating degree. Therefore, subcooling degree, mass flow rate ratio of inter-cooler of two-stage compression and 1-stage expansion using substitute refrigerant have an effect on COP of this system. The COP of alternative refrigerants was higher than the COP of R22 in this study, although the COP of some mixed refrigerants were lower than COP of R22.

The evaporation heat transfer coefficient for R-l34a, R-407C (a mixture of 23wt% R-32, 25 wt% R-125, and 52 wt% R-l34a) and R-410A (a mixture of 50 wt% R-32 and 50 wt% R-125) flowing in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger were investigated experimentally in this study. Four vertical counterflow channels were formed in the exchanger by four plates of commercial geometry with a corrugated sinusoid shape of a chevron angle of 45 degree. The effects of the mean vapor quality, mass flux, heat flux, and saturation temperature of different refrigerants on the evaporation heat transfer were explored in detail. Similar to the case of a Plate heat exchanger, even at a very low Reynolds number, the flow in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger remains turbulent. It is found that the evaporation heat transfer coefficient in the plates is much higher than that in circular pipes. The present data show that the evaporation heat transfer coefficients of all refrigerants increase with the vapor quality. At a higher mass flux h, is higher than for the entire range of the vapor quality. Raising the imposed wall heat flux was found to slightly improve h$_{r}$, while h$_{r}$ is found to be lower at a higher refrigerant saturation temperature. A comparison of the performance of the various refrigerants reveals that R-410A has the highest heat transfer performance followed by R-l34a, and R-407C had the lowest performance of the refrigerants tested. Based on the present data, empirical correlations of the evaporation heat transfer coefficient were proposed.sed.

In this work, nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of 5 refrigerants of differing vapor pressure are measured on horizontal low fin and Turbo-B square surfaces of 9.53 mm length. Tested refrigerants are R32, R22, R134a, R152a and R245fa and HTCs are taken from 10 $kW/m^2$ to critical heat fluxes for all refrigerant at $7^{\circ}C$. Wall and fluid temperatures are measured directly by thermocouples located underneath the test surface and in the liquid pool. Test results show that Critical heat fluxes(CHFs) of all enhanced surfaces are greatly improved as compared to that of a plain surface in all tested refrigerants. CHFs of all refrigerants on the 26 fpi low fin surface are increased up to 240% as compared to that of the plain surface. HTCs on both low fin and Turbo-B surfaces increase with heat flux. After certain heat flux, however, they decrease. CHFs of the Turbo-B enhanced surface are lower than that of the 26 fpi low fin surface. This phenomenon is due to the difference in surface structure of the low fin and Turbo-B surface.
