In this study, an experimental method measuring the scroll under the temperature distribution similar to the operating condition is proposed and the results are presented. Direct measurement of the actual thermal stress is very difficult because of the rapid and complex motion of the orbiting scroll. Therefore, the experimental condition is provided on the stationary scroll heated in the electric furnace and, then, the mechanical stress and the effects of refrigerant are excluded from the resulting measurement. The experimental results are compared with these of FEM, both showing good agreement.

This paper concerns the study of a two-stage absorption heat pump cycle to utilize treated sewage. This two-stage cycle consists of coupling double-effect with parallel or series flow type and single effect cycle so that the first stage absorber and condenser produces hot water to evaporate refrigerant in the evaporator of the second stage. The effects of operating variables such as absorber temperature on the coefficient of performance have been studied for two-stage absorption heat pump cycle. The working fluid is lithium bromide and water solution. The efficiency of the two-stage absorption heat pump cycle has been studied and simulation results show that higher coefficient of performance could be obtained for the first stage with parallel flow type. The optimum ratio of solution distribution can be shown by considering the COP, the crystallization of solution and the generator temperature.

Prediction method for heat transfer coefficients in a horizontal smooth tube with forced convection condensation is proposed. In this paper, the analogy between momentum and heat transfer was applied to an annular flow regime and the logarithmic velocity distribution is applied to describe the velocity profile within the liquid film. Prediction results are compared with those of experimental ones. The test refrigerants are R113, R22, R134a, R407C(R33/R125/R134a, 23/25/52 wt%), R410A(R32/R125, 50/50 wt%) and R134a+R123(R134a/R123, 85.5/14.5 wt%) which are used under operating conditions in a condenser of air-conditioner. The proposed prediction method shows good agreement with experimental data within$\pm 30%$ for pure refrigerants. For the mixture refrigerants including the ternary mixture refrigerant R407C, condensation heat transfer from this study are higher than those from experiments. By correcting the constant in two-phase frictional multiplier, the predicated heat transfer coefficients become similar to the experimental results.

The flow and heat/mass transfer in the falling-film of a heat exchanger can be influenced by the motion of the surrounding refrigerant vapor. In this study, the effect of the vapor flow direction on the absorption heat transfer has been investigated for a falling-film helical coil which is frequently used as the absorber of ammonia/water absorption refrigerators. The experiments were carried out for different solution concentration. The heat and mass transfer performance was measured for both parallel and counter-current flow. The effect of vapor flow on the heat and mass transfer is found to be increased with decreasing solution concentration. In the experiments with low solution concentration, whose vapor specific volume is great, the counter-current flow of vapor resulted in uneven distribution of falling-film and reduced the heat transfer performance of the absorber. The direction of the vapor flow hardly affected the thermal performance as the solution concentration became stronger since the specific volume of the ammonia/water vapor was much smaller than that of the water vapor.

The effects of casing shapes on the performance and the interaction between an impeller and a casing in a small-sized centrifugal compressor are investigated. Especially, numerical analyses are conducted for the centrifugal compressor with both a circular casing and a volute one. The optimum design for each element (i.e., impeller, diffuser and casing) is important to develop an efficient and compact compressor using alternative refrigerant as working fluids. Typical rotating speed of the compressor is in the range of 40,000∼45,000 rpm. The impeller has backswept blades due to tip clearance and a vane diffuser has wedge type. In order to predict the flow pattern inside an entire impeller, vaneless diffuser and casing, calculations with multiple frames of reference method between the rotating and stationery parts of the domain are carried out. For computations of compressible turbulent flow fields, the continuity and time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are employed. To evaluate the performance of two types of casings, the static pressure recovery and loss coefficients are obtained for various flow rates. Also, static pressure distributions around casings are studied for different casing shapes, which are very important to predict the distribution of radial load. The static pressure around the casing and pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the compressor are measured for the circular casing.

This work analyzes the effects of the independent variation of different geometric dimensions of compressor valves on the effective flow and force areas using a circular valve plate, such as different geometry of the valve seat, and the valve reed is opened and closed by pressure pulsation, the flow characteristic of the refrigerant passing the valve is very important. In the present study, a circular disk with inclination is assumed to be the valve reed of a reciprocating compressor and numerical analysis of three dimensional velocity fields are performed for theradial flow through the valve model. The effective flow and force area which are required to predict the efficiency of the valve are required to predict the efficiency of the valve are measured and compared with the numerical analysis in this research.

An analytical model was developed using the lumped mass parameter method to estimate temperature distribution of metal parts and refrigerant of the hermetic reciprocating compressor, All of the lumped mass has been equated with the first law of thermodynamics. In the delivered equation, correlations of heat transfer coefficient in the heat transfer equation were taken from open literature. The equations are solved by Gauss-Jordan method simultaneously. To verify the developed numerical program, an experiment was conducted with a domestic refrigerator. The compressor which had been installed at the bottom of the experimental refrigerator was modified to measure internal temperature. Model verification test was conducted at $30^{\circ}C$ outdoor temperature with variation of compressor cooling conditions. As a result, there is a good consistency between calculated temperature and measured one.

An experimental investigation was made to study two-phase flow distribution in a T-type distributor of slit fin-and-tube heat exchanger using R-22. Experiments were carried out under the conditions of saturation temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ and mass flow rate varying from 0.6 to 1.2kg/min. The inlet air has dry bulb temperature of $27^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 50% and air velocity varying from 0.63 to 1.71m/s. A comparison was made between the predictions from the previously proposed tube-by-tube method and the present experimental data for the heat transfer rate of evaporator. Results show that $82.5\%$ increase of air velocity is needed for T-type distributor with four outlet branches than that of two outlet branches under the superheat of $5^{\circ}C$, which resulted in increasing of air-side pressure drop of $130\%$ for the former as compared to the latter.

The object of the present study is to develop a high performance evaporator for automotive air conditioner. The experiment has been conducted on evaporative heat transfer coefficient inside a plate type heat exchanger with a sharp 180-degree turn flow. The test plates have different formed surface, cross-ribbed channel and elliptical-ribbed channel. Also experimental study has been performed to determine optimal design in elliptical-ribbed plate heat exchanger with different turn clearance. In addition to the above experiments, refrigerant behavior and surface temperature distribution in the plate heat exchanger were observed using color thermoviewer(infrared thermometer). In this experiment, working fluid was used R-12 and test conditions were as follows : (1) saturation pressure of $2.116kg/cm^2$, (2) mass fluxes of 40 to $70kg/m^2s$, (3) heat fluxes of 4,500 to $7,300W/m^2$, (4) inlet quality of 0.1 to 0.7. The results indicated that the evaporative heat transfer coefficient of an elliptical-ribbed plate heat exchanger was higher than that of cross-ribbed plate heat exchanger. Also optimal turn clearance in an elliptical-ribbed plate heat exchanger was determined.

Fault detection has to be proceeded by steady state filtering to get rid of transient effect associated with thermal capacity. Coefficient of variance (COV), ratio of standard deviation devided by moving average, was employed as steady-state filter. Engine speed and refrigerant pressures were selected as parameters representing system dynamics. The filtered values were registered as members of steady-state DB. They were found to show good functional relationship with ambient temperature. The relationship was fitted with a second order polynomial and the distribution bounds of the data around the fitted curve were expressed by visual inspection because of varying average and random data interval. Fault data were compared with the steady-state data obtained during normal operation. The fault data were easily isolated from the fault-free one. To make such isolation reliable, tests to construct good DB should be designed in a systematic way.
