Current State and Future of Refrigerants for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

  • Refrigeration and air-conditioning equipments are indispensable products in this civilized society. However, discharged refrigerants used in the equipments and exhausted carbon dioxide to drive the refrigeration and air-conditioning equipments are related to serious environmental problems and energy problems. Especially, the destroyed ozonosphere by the discharged refrigerants and the increased normal temperature by carbon dioxide and fluorocarbon refrigerants (green house gases) are sounded as serious global problems. For alleviating these problems, environmental-friendly refrigeration and air-conditioning equipments must be developed and will spread soon. To develop new equipment, a suitable refrigerant for each usage must be presented. In this paper, the current state of refrigerants was introduced. And, thermophysical properties of the refrigerants were introduced briefly. From the properties, the refrigerants and refrigeration cycles are promising to be used in the future, were proposed

프로판 냉매를 활용한 단일 및 다단 냉동 사이클의 전산모사 비교 연구 (A comparative study on the simulation of single-stage and multi-stage refrigeration cycle using propane as a refrigerant)

  • 본 연구에서는 천연가스의 냉각을 위한 프로판을 냉매로 사용한 단일 및 다단 냉동 사이클에 대한 소요 에너지를 비교하였다. 이를 위해서 천연가스의 온도를$ -37.00^{\circ}C$까지 냉각시키기 위해서 프로판을 냉매로 사용하여 1단 압축 및 2단, 3단, 4단 압축을 이용한 냉동 사이클에 대한 비교 연구를 수행하였다. 전산모사를 위해 한국가스공사로부터 제공받은 천연가스 조성을 적용하였으며, 열역학 모델식으로는 Peng-Robinson 상태방정식을 적용하였다. 냉동기 압축 단수가 증가할수록 응축기의 heatduty는 점점 줄어드는 것을 알 수 있었다. 4단 압축공정의 경우 1단 압축공정에 비해 응축기의 heatduty는 약 20.36% 정도 감소하였으며 냉매의 총 순환 유량은 약 14.53% 감소하였다. 또한 4단 압축공정의 경우 1단 압축공정에 비해 압축기의 총 소요 동력은 약 41.61% 감소함을 알 수 있었다.

회전수 상승폭 변화에 따른 인버터열펌프의 비정상 운전특성 (A study on the transient characteristics during speed up of inverter heat pump)

  • The transient characteristics of a 4.0㎾ inverter driven heat pump was investigated by theoretical and experimental studies. The heat pump used in this study consists of a high side scroll compressor and $\Phi$7 compact heat exchangers with two capillary tubes. A series of tests was peformed to examine the transient characteristics of heat pump in heating and cooling mode when the operating speed was varied from 30Hz to 102Hz. One of the major issues that has not been addressed so far is transient characteristics during speed modulation. A cycle simulation model has been developed to predict the cycle performance under frequency rise-up conditions, and the results of theoretical study were compared with the results of experimental study. The theoretical model was driven from mass conservation and energy conservation equations to predict the operation points of refrigerant cycle and the performances at various operating speeds. For transient conditions, the simulated results are in good agreement with the experimental results within 10%. The transient cycle migration of the liquid state refrigerant causes a significant dynamic change in system. Thus, the migration of refrigerant is the most important factor whenever An experimental analysis is performed or A simulation model is developed.

  • The cooling performance of a transcritical $CO_2$ cycle varies significantly with a variation of refrigerant charge amount. In this study, the performance of the $CO_2$ system was measured and analyzed by varying refrigerant charge amount with a change of cycle option. The applied cycle options are the single-stage compression system, two-stage compression with 1-EEV system, and two-stage compression with 2- EEV system. The optimum normalized charge were 0.363, 0.297, and 0.282 for the two-stage compression with 2-EEV system, two-stage compression with 1-EEV system, and single-stage compression system, respectively.

C3-MR 공정의 프로판 사이클 압력 레벨에 따른 에너지효율 최적화를 위한 사례연구 (Case Studies for Optimizing Energy Efficiency of Propane Cycle Pressure Levels on C3-MR Process)

  • 천연가스 액화공정은 극저온에서 운전되며 에너지 소비가 매우 크기 때문에 압축기의 에너지 소모를 최소화하는 것이 공정의 효율 측면에서 중요하다. 여러 가지 천연가스 액화공정 중 C3-MR(Propane Pre-cooled Mixed Refrigerant) 공정의 경우 순수냉매인 프로판과 혼합냉매를 사용하는 두 개의 냉각 사이클로 구성되어있다. 본 연구에서는 C3-MR 공정에서 최적의 프로판 압력 레벨을 찾기 위해 프로판 사이클을 별개로 구성하여 모사하였다. 또한, 압력 레벨에 따른 조건을 변화시켜가며 사례 연구를 수행하고 이를 통해 압축기에서 소모되는 에너지양을 비교하였다. 그 결과 압력 레벨이 높을수록 총 에너지 소모량이 감소하는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 압력 레벨이 3일때 보다 압력 레벨이 5일 때 에너지 소모는 약 23.7% 감소하는 값을 얻을 수 있었다.

R32/R152a 혼합냉매를 적용한 해양온도차발전의 기초성능해석 (Basic performance analysis of ocean thermal energy conversion using the refrigerant mixture R32/R152a)

  • 본 논문에서는 혼합작동유체를 해양온도차발전에 적용하였을 때에 그에 따른 사이클의 성능특성에 대해 연구를 수행하였다. 다양한 혼합작동유체 중 본 논문에서는 R32/R152a를 해양온도차발전에 적용하였다. 사이클로는 기존의 밀폐형사이클, 암모니아/물 혼합물에 적용하고 있는 칼리나 사이클에 대해 시뮬레이션 해석을 수행하였고, 온열원의 온도는 $26^{\circ}C$, 냉열원의 온도는 $5^{\circ}C$를 적용하였다. R32를 적용한 밀폐사이클의 출력은 22kW, 사이클의 효율은 2.02%를 보였다. 혼합작동유체를 적용하였을 때에 R32/R152a(90%:10%)의 출력은 29.93kW, 사이클 효율은 2.78%로 기존의 단일 냉매보다 36%, 사이클효율은 37%상승함을 확인 하였다. 칼리나 사이클 또한 위와 같은 방법으로 연구를 수행하였다.

  • For the air-conditioner, refrigerant induced noise and vibration should be the problem when it reduced airflow rate in order to reduce the noise at low mode. With the test, it could be verified that one of the main reason for refrigerant induced noise were the velocity and flowing induced force of the refrigerant at the inlet of evaporator. So in order to reduce this velocity with same mass flow rate of refrigerant, quality at the evaporator inlet should be minimized. And in order to reduce flowing induced force of the refrigerant, flowing direction change should be eliminated. So in this paper, it would like to review the characteristics of refrigerating cycle at first and find how the quality and flowing induced force can be minimized.

축열조를 이용한 냉매과냉각 시스템의 전력수요관리 효과에 대한 연구 (A Study on the DSM Effect of a Refrigerant-Subcooling Refrigeration System with an Ice Storage Tank)

  • This study was experimentally performed to find the effects of refrigerant subcooling in the refrigeration system and to propose how to get the efficient use of energy. A refrigerant-subcooling refrigeration system consisted of a typical single vapor-compression refrigeration cycle, a subcooler, and an ice storage tank. The degree of subcooling at the exit of the condenser can be increased by the heat transfer between the subcooler and the ice storage tank. The cold heat in the ice storage tank was stored by using the refrigeration cycle during night time and then used to absorb the heat from the subcooler during daytime. The cooling capacity and COP of this system were higher than those of the conventional system due to the increase in the degree of subcooling. Typically, the refrigerant-subcooling system showed superior performance to the conventional refrigeration system and would also contribute to load leveling.

2-사이클 열펌프 건조기에서 건조과정에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Drying Process in the Two-Cycle Heat Pump Dryer)

  • Heat pump drying has a great potential for energy saving due to its high energy efficiency in comparison to conventional air drying. The heat pump dryer is usually operated at the temperature less than $50^{\circ}C$ and the drying temperature is limited to the operating temperature of the heat pump system. In order to increase the drying temperature, the special box-type heat pump dryer has been developed. The dryer uses the two-cycle heat pump system which has the two heat pump cycles for high and low temperature heating. The high temperature cycle uses the refrigerant 124 to get the temperature greater than $80^{\circ}C$ and the low temperature cycle uses the refrigerant 134a. The drying experiment has been carried out to figure out the performance of the dryer with the selected drying material.
