  • In order to provide basic information for the estimation of evapotranspiration in the ponded direct seeding paddy field, both field lysimeter experiment and model prediction were performed to estimate daily ET. Various methods were used to predict daily reference crop ET and crop coefficients. Measure4 mean daily ET during the 1995 growing season varied from 5.9 to 6.1 mm depending on the species, while it varied from 5.1 to 5.5 mm in 1996. Model predicted mean daily ET during the 1995 growing season varied from 3.9 to 4.9 mm depending on the prediction model, while it varied from 3.5 to 4.7 mm in 1996. The smaller ET values both measured and predicted in 1996 were caused by the low values of temperature, sunshine hours, and solar radiation. Crop coefficients varied from 1.20 to 1.50 in 1995 depending on the prediction model, while it varied from 1.10 to 1.47 in 1996. Comparison of the seven reference crop ET prediction methods used in this study shows that the Penman-Monteith method and the FAO-Radiation method gave the lowest ET while the corrected Penman method and the Hargreaves method gave the largest ET. Since crop coefficients vary to a large extent based on the prediction methods, reference crop ET prediction method should be carefully selected in irrigation planning.

  • In this study, the daily-based reference evapotranspiration was evaluated with Hargreaves equation at the 23 meteorological stations for the time period of 1997-2006. The Hargreaves coefficient was self-calibrated to give the best fit with Penman-Monteith evapotranspiration, being regarded as a reference. On the basis of the estimated parameter set, a generalized regression was conducted to estimate the Hargreaves evapotranspiration by just using temperature data. This study will contribute to water resources planning, irrigation schedule, and environmental management.

  • Direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of ignition of lean primary reference fuel (PRF)/air mixtures under homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) conditions are performed using 116-species reduced chemistry. The influence of variations in the initial temperature field, imposed by changing the variance of temperature, and the fuel composition on ignition of lean PRF/air mixtures is studied using the displacement speed analysis.

  • Recently, frost damage of storage tank for admixture agent caused by low temperature in winter and quality deterioration of admixture agent ofen happened. But, many problems are caused because of no applicable regulations of admixture agent facility and so on. Therefore, this study presents the reference data about using and quality control of admixture agent in practice and the judgement data about working out a counter plan of suitable heat insulation of injecion equipment of admixture agent exposed at outside in winter by measuring the freezing point of admixture agent for concrete.

  • The exterior ballistics of small rifles mist be analyzed for the shooter and coach who are seriously interested in attainment of maximum performance in the art of rifle marksmanship. It provides also a basic reference material for the designers of rifles having better hitting rates. The exterior ballistics are computed using a state vector analysis and presented to facilitate use by individuals according to the atmospheric conditions. The ballistics are changed by the pressure, temperature and humidity of the air.

  • A special steels have been developed for the possible applications of turbine blade in nuclear power plant. The compositions of developed alloy were selected by the reference of imported alloy. The various properties such as tensile property, impact energy, hardness, and microstructures were investigated. All the properties of optimum heat treated materials were satisfied with the present specifications of turbine blade materials in unclear power plant. Furthermore, FATT(Fracture appearance transition temperature), high temperature tensile properties, and transformation temperatures of developed alloy also have been studied.

  • We proposed a simple and yet effective way of wavelength stabilization for WDM transmission using a temperature compensated fiber grating. This scheme was successfully applied to both DFB LD and EMLD, locking them to their respective reference wavelengths notwithstanding temperature change and RF modulation.

  • A novel method for measuring hydrogen concentration is introduced, along with its working principle and a novel detection algorithm. This configuration requires no additional reference compartment for potentiometric electrochemical measurements; therefore, it is the most suitable for measuring dissolved hydrogen in the liquid phase. The sensor's electromotive force saturates at a certain point, depending on the hydrogen concentration during the heating process of the sensor operation. This dynamic temperature scanning method provides higher sensitivity than the constant temperature measurement method.

  • This paper presents temperature measurement of solar photovoltaic modules using the custom-made system composed of an infrared temperature sensor and a microcontroller. The obtained measurement results are processed, displayed and stored on a PC using the custom-made virtual instrument. The proposed system overcomes some of the problems related to the contact sensor application, and at the same time offers accurate readings and better flexibility. The proposed system is especially suitable for applications where the cost is a limiting factor in the choice of measuring system. The conducted analysis and the obtained results have shown an excellent accuracy of the proposed system in comparison to a high quality thermal imaging camera used as the reference instrument.

  • A number of R, G and B LEDs for reference color temperature mixing ratio of RGB was determined by the theory of RGB mixing as a baseline. Once the number of LEDs was determined the objective color temperature from baseline has been achieved by the control the RGB duty ratio. And a practical prototype of 50W floodlighting adjusted by the above algorithm. The micro controller was developed with control algorithm for RGB duty ratio to obtain the objective color temperature. Detailed experiments to optimize algorithm of duty ratio and color temperature will be discussed in this paper as well.
