  • There are more than five dozen different RP(rapid prototyping) systems in the world and they are fairly expensive. All those systems have different capabilities and requirements in that each of them gives different tolerance, application field and part strength, etc. This situation may cause a problem of selecting an appropriate RP system. This paper presents an expert system, utilizing an algorithm that is composed up of rules to derive recommendations and answers to queries of the RP users. The expert system incorporates RP machines commercially available and adopts multi-selection criteria, namely, machine price, accuracy, build size, adopted process, etc. In the expert system, forward reasoning method is adopted and external spreadsheet for sub-data of the RP systems is used. The rules and knowledge are obtained from interviews and discussions with RP vendors and users, appropriate research publications and other reference materials.

  • The STELLA-2 is a large-scale sodium thermal-hydraulic integral effect test facility and supports the development of PGSFR. The facility adopted Pump Simulation Loop System (PSLS) concept for the mechanical sodium pump in the reference reactor to control and to measure the primary sodium flow. Since the component (mechanical pump) is replaced by the loop, it is very important to evaluate the similarity between the pump and the loop. In this paper, to simulate the characteristic of the mechanical sodium pump, the pressure loss along the various options of the loop was evaluated and the comprehensive validity of each design options was analyzed. Using the similarity criteria based on the Richardson number and Euler number conservation, the PSLS design was finalized and the result was within the acceptable error range. Finally, the result of this study was used for construction of the overall facility, STELLA-2.

  • During extreme ionospheric storms, anomalous ionospheric delays and gradients could cause potential integrity threats to users of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) augmentation systems. GNSS augmentation ground facilities must monitor these ionospheric anomalies defined by a threat model and alarm the users of safely-of-life applications within time-to-alerts. Because the ionospheric anomaly threat model is developed using data collected from GNSS reference stations, the use of poor-quality data can degrade the performance of the threat model. As the total number of stations increases, the number of station with poor GNSS data quality also increases. This paper analyzes the quality of data collected from Korean GPS reference stations using comprehensive GNSS data quality check algorithms. The results show that the range of good and poor qualities varies noticeably for each quality parameter. Especially erroneous ionospheric delay and gradients estimates are produced due to poor quality data. The results obtained in this study should be a basis for determining GPS data quality criteria in the development of ionospheric threat models.

  • Since provisions on the technical criteria for personnel dosimetry was amended three years ago, several improvements in the technique of monitoring personnel doses by TLD have taken place, but for the photograpfic film as a personnel monitor, additional investigations should be carried out for its accuracy of dose estimates because of its wide use in the radiation involved industries. So, this paper describes the methods to develope dose evaluation algorithm for photographic film using ISO reference radiations by i) empirical formula, ii) degree-of-fit method, and iii) matrix approximation. These methods show a good agreement between irradiated and calculated dose within tolerance level represented in ANSI N13. 11, and can be used for the dose evaluation of X, ${\gamma}$ and/or radiation fields.

  • Plant engineering industry is considered as a key industry which will drive the future of Korea. However, Korean plant engineering companies have recently made huge losses in overseas businesses and the lack of engineering capability is pointed out as a main cause of this situation. Unlike Korean plant engineering companies, world leading engineering companies such as Flour and Bechtel have their own systems Engineering Standards/Guides ensuring successful fulfillments of the concept and basic design processes. An engineering standard for an organization is an essential means to shorten the time for engineering design, to maintain the engineering quality and to secure the engineering efficiency in the development of the complex system. Korean plant engineering companies'lack of engineering capability comes from the absence of the engineering standard. In the paper, we have developed a steel-making plant engineering standard based on a systems engineering standard. We chose both ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and NASA SE Handbook as main reference standards. First, we have introduced a life-cycle definition and a physical hierarchy of a general steel-making plant. Then we have introduced detailed engineering processes of each life-cycle stage. The full scope of the study was from the feasibility study to the basic design but in the paper, we have only introduced detailed engineering processes and exit criteria for the feasibility study and the concept design.

  • In this study, a method for evaluating the performance of speed measurements was developed to assess the qualities of a vehicle detector. The evaluation method considers measurement errors that are reflected in a reference speed. For this, the concept of uncertainty in measurement was applied to the development method. Other factors such as precedent study, statistical processing techniques, and speed measurement performance method of traffic enforcement equipment and vehicle detection systems were also reviewed. Through this process, the problems of the existing evaluation methods were derived and developed for the new performance evaluation method. Vehicle detectors that are installed in the field were evaluated using the traditional assessment methods and the developed method. As a result, for traditional assessment methods, it was found that evaluation criteria are acceptable, while developed method's criteria are not acceptable. This means that traditional assessment methods do not sufficiently consider errors in measurement, so it has potential to over-estimate for performance of evaluation equipment. On the other hand, it was represented that the developed method should include variable factor such as errors in measurement and more precise compared to traditional assessment methods.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to find out the effects od Sahyangsohapwon on learning and memory of rats.Method: In the experiment, rats were divided two groups. One was control group which was adminstered Sahyangsohapwon and the other was sample group administered placebo. Numbers of each group were 13 rats. 8-arm radial maze task was used in it, and working memory test and retention(reference memory) test were done. Before the beginning of the test, the rats were deprived of water for 24hrs.In the frist test, each of eight arm was baited with water and a rat was permitted to remain on the maze until all eight arms were entered. A working memory error was defined as revisit of any previously entered arm. When a rat made an error not exceeding one time in consecutive 3 days-performance, it was regarded as learning criteria and the test was ended. The reference memory was evaluated with total days which it took rats to pass the learning crtirtia. The second test was performed after 24 hours when the first test was over. When a rat entered 4 arms, the entrance of arm was cut off during 30 seconds. Here the number if errors which was produced during a rat find remaining 4 tracks was regarded as the index of memory. This experiment compared the number of error at the control group with that of the sample group.Result: 1. In the first test, it was shown that the sample group took 7.69${\pm}$1.11 days and the control group 9.31${\pm}$1.97 days to pass the learning criteria. There was statistically significant reference mernory development at the sample group.2. In the second test, the frequency of errors made by the two groups were 0.92${\pm}$1.32 times for the control group and 1.23${\pm}$1.59 times for the Sahyangsohapwon group. There was no difference between the groups in frequency of errors. Conclusion: It is suggested that Sahyangsohapwon has effects on the improvement of learning and memory.
