  • All of area we live in has its own geographic names. Even small size of rock under the water has its own name. They are called "marine geographic names". Marine geographic names can be classified two categories. One is a proper name; the other is an attribute name. Rocks, reefs and banks referred in the introduction, belong to the category of the attribute name. And there are certain standards to name marine geographic things. In this study, we conducted a case research with the aims to figure out how we name and use those three features that we consider dangerous factors for marine navigation. This study also focused on differences between the methods used to classify attributes of marine geographic names in the past and today. In addition, it reviewed and analyzed marine geographic names used by Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration (KHOA) on its own Nautical charts and conducted a case research on marine geographic names notified by Korean Committee on Marine Geographic Names. Based on research and analysis, this study presents future methods regarding marine geographic names standardization.

  • Artificial reef refers to various structures that facility to construction field format and spawning of marine organisms, sea ranch, forest of the sea, and sea jungle artificially in water, Build a production stable base of marine products, thereby contributing to an increase in the income of fishermen. In the management of an artificial reef, the calculation of the number of square reefs may be that it is a method to perform the submersible is an important part of maintenance is correct. However, cost and diving personnel, depending on the diving situation, there is a difficult thing to implement to coast across the country. Therefore, In this study, We calculated the volume using the multi-beam Echo Sounder and side scan sonar for the reefs of the rectangle are the existing installation. And proposes the improvement of the estimation in accordance with the volume coefficient reef.

  • The effectiveness of fishery resources enhancement of artificial reef settled in the coast of Cheju Island was determined by using the samples collected by scuaba and caught by the trammel net. The obtained results are summarized as follows; 1. Six types of shellfish were found in the artificial reef area, and the amount of shellfish living in that area was $490{\sim}3,483g/m^2$ according to our research. This shows a high density of shellfish in that area. 2. Ten types of seaweeds were found in the artificial reef area, and the reef living in that area was abundant, with $3,556{\sim}10,550g/m^2$. 3. The amount of a catch of fish in the artificial reef area was 3.5~21.4 times more than in the control area. This result shows the high productivity in that area.

  • Side scan sonar using acoustic wave plays a very important role in the underwater, sea floor, and shallow marine geologic survey. In this study, we have acquired side scan sonar data for the underwater man-made structures, artificial reefs and fishing grounds, installed and distributed in the survey area. We applied digital image processing techniques to side scan sonar data in order to improve and enhance an image quality. We carried out digital image processing with various kinds of filtering in spatial domain and frequency domain. We tested filtering parameters such as kernel size, differential operator, and statistical value. We could easily estimate the conditions, distribution and environment of artificial structures through the interpretation of side scan sonar.

  • A modeling program was developed in Part I which represents the 3-D geometry, produces bill of material, automatically draws drawings and produces input data for structural analysis of Very High-rise Steel Artificial Reefs(VEHSAR). Model tests were carried out to measure drag forces acted on VEHSAR in the Ocean Engineering Wide Tank, the University of Ulsan and structural analyses were made to simulate structural behaviors of VEHSAR. The integrated package system is suggested to design VEHSAR with different geometries.

  • The 3-D modeling of ocean finite element method(OFEM) using $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model and tetrahedron grids has been used to investigate the internal wave generation during the expansion of the deep water from the open sea to the shelf with a simple shape, which can be widely used in the fields of submarine development, ocean environment and meteorology, etc. In this paper, the detailed configuration of internal wave with its length and height and also the distribution of salinity and turbulent kinematic energy, etc. were derived. It is hoped that this OFEM method can be successfully applied to the numerical calculation of internal wave for and the oceanographic problems (tidal flows around underwater hill, plateau, Georges Bank, etc.) and ocean engineering problems(flow past artificial sea reefs) in future.

  • This paper deals with static tension analysis method for Floating Tire Breakwater(FTB). FTB can be used for the limited wave height. It is especially focused on Goodyear type FTB easily applied to the breakwater for the fisheries cultivating region. The numerical examples for FTB design procedure was reviewed. It is also studied the static analysis method of offshore catenary spread mooring system. The general calculation procedure for the tension versus excursion curves for the multi-line system using the basic catenary relationship was studied. Calculation results showed good agreement with some existing mooring results. To extend this mooring force calculating method to the floating fisheries caitivating cages, the strength of synthetic fiber was considered. This analysis method can be used to the estimation of the mooring force for the floating structures such as floating breakwaters and floating artificial reefs.

  • The Government is managing "The Comprehensive Development Plan of Fishing Villages" which is a national program to ensure the effective use of the coast and reasonable management of fisheries resources. The Chuja-do was selected as an area for "The Comprehensive Development of Fishing Villages" because it has the characteristics of local independence and an advanced fishery using boats. The study covered the environment of the local fishing grounds, all aspects of the coast fishing and residents' thinking. The results of the study led to the following proposals : development of the coastal fishing grounds farmining industry, establishing the fishing grounds industry by dropping arcificial fish reefs, developing the tourist industry, improving the quality of fishery using boats, and establishing high quality fishing specialties.

  • This study was analyzed and assessed the environmental factors on small marine ranching sites around Gunsan Coast, West Sea of Korea. Standards of assessment are followed in the reports on the choice of marine ranching sites and regulation factors of proper site on marine artificial reefs of MOMAF. Max. current speed around Gunsan were ranged between 25.52 ~ 57.49cm/sec. These values were satisfied by comparing assessment factor such as current speed.. Factors of temperature, salinity, transparency and pH were evaluated as the proper extent. DO was not distributed as the proper extent due to different criterion. between the same assessment factor. COD, SS and nutrients were partly suited to the criteria. Especially, SS was almost higher than that of criterion. So, we are proposed to be reflected in environment characteristics of West Coast such as SS. Moreover, the extent of pollution load factors have to be specified clearly in the regulations of assessment criteria.
