Survivability assessments and vulnerability reductions are required in warship design. A warship's survivability is assessed by its susceptibility, vulnerability, and recoverability. In this paper, an integrated survivability assessment for a warship subjected to multiple hits is introduced. The methodology aims at integrating a survivability assessment into an early stage of warship design. The hull surface is idealized using typical geometries for RCS (Radar Cross Section) detection probability and susceptibility. The Vulnerability is evaluated by using the shot-line. The recoverability is estimated using a survival time analysis. This enables the variation of survivability to be assessed. Several parameters may be varied to determine their effects on the survivability. The susceptibility is assessed by the probability of detecting the radar cross section of the subject and the probability of being hit based on a probability density function. The vulnerability is assessed by the kill probability based on the vulnerable area of critical components, according to the component's layout and redundancy. Recoverability is assessed by the recovery time for damaged critical components.
This paper examines government-supported university programs in South Korea over the last decade. To do this, we review the current status and issues of recent programs supported by the Ministry of Education. Thereafter, we draw some lessons and suggest policy implications for improving the effectiveness of government-supported university programs. The issues addressed include 1) low consensus amongst stakeholders in the higher education sector and top-down goal setting led by the government, 2) frequent reshuffling of the structures and contents of programs, 3) ineffectiveness due to redundancy of projects, 4) disparity between 'haves' and 'have-nots' in the higher education system, and 5) an inadequate evaluation system and assessment indicators. We suggest that government-supported programs should be realigned to stimulate the reform of higher education aimed at strengthening its publicness. The role of government needs to transit from 'leading' to 'supporting', while the universities should take initiatives in reforming the higher education system.

An innovative Hybrid Passive Resistive configuration for Truss Girder Frames (HPR-TGFs) is introduced in the present study. The proposed system is principally consisting of Fluid Viscous Dampers (FVDs) and Buckling Restrained Braces (BRBs) as its seismic resistive components. Concurrent utilization of these devices will develop an efficient energy dissipating mechanism which is able to mitigate lateral displacements as well as the base shear, simultaneously. However, under certain circumstances which the presence of FVDs might not be essential, the proposed configuration has the potential to incorporate double BRBs in order to achieve the redundancy of alternative load bearing paths. This study is extending the modern Direct Displacement Based Design (DDBD) procedure as the design methodology for HPR-TGF systems. Based on a series of nonlinear time history analysis, it is demonstrated that the design outcomes are almost identical to the pre-assumed design criteria. This implies that the ultimate characteristics of HPR-TGFs such as lateral stiffness and inter-story drifts are well-proportioned through the proposed design procedure.

Prestressed concrete girder(PSC girder) bridges have been used widely at the railway as well as highway because they are great in the functional and economical efficiency. Also they have the advantage of convenience of design and construction. However it could be easily verified that the section of PSC girder is excessive design, which has much redundancy against design loads. Thus, in this paper the formulation of the optimum design for PSC girder railway bridge is suggested and dominant design variables and constraints are inquired as performing the optimum design. In order to effective optimum design, design variables are formulated as PSC girder sectional dimension and girder space. The objective is adopted as total cost of PSC girder railway bridge. Also, constraints are formulated according to Korean railway design specification and considering construction-ability such as PS anchorage and girder space. Using the proposed optimum design system, optimum PSC girder railway bridge design has been performed. And from the results of analysis it is suggested to denote the optimum section which satisfies the structural safety and economical efficiency all together.

Non-volatile counter is a counter that maintains the value without external power supply. It has been used for the applications related to warranty issues to count and record certain events such as power cycles, operating time, hard resets, and timeouts. It has been conventionally implemented with volatile memory-based counter and battery backup or non-volatile memory such as EEPROM. Both of them have a lifetime issue due to the limited lifetime of the battery and the endurance of the non-volatile memory cells, which incurs significant redundancy in design. In this paper, we introduce a hybrid architecture of volatile (SRAM) and non-volatile memory (EEPROM) cells to achieve required lifetime of the non-volatile counter with smaller cost. We conduct a design space exploration of the proposed hybrid architecture with the parameters of various kinds of non-volatile memories. The analysis result shows that the proposed hybrid non-volatile counter can extend the lifetime up to 6 times compared to the battery-backup volatile memory-based implementation.
Purpose - The business model is a method of creating corporate value, in existing "classification of business model", limitations and redundancy phenomena are applied when a new type flows in, and as consumer's purchasing decision of consumer behavior 5 steps. The classification schemes can be used for more accurate data analysis by proposing a new mapping technique in the fourth industry. Research design, data, and methodology - It was far more classified on the business model (BMS by BDS), and so on. Designing the new horizons of logistics, marketing, methodology by reclassifying these existing data to new useful data with the old methods, in order to analyze the areas where the problem has been raised for the point that the existing methods are not suitable configured. This will be applicable to the system of quaternary industry from the perspective of the buyer. Results - The mapping results of the consumer purchase decision were as follows, the 1st stage (interest) was 23.73%, 2nd stages (publicity) 33.90%, 3rd stages (sales) 13.56%, 4th stages (decision) 11.86%, 5th stages (repurchaser) 16.95%. This verified that "the business model can be classified through "BMS by BDS". Conclusions - This structural classification is the basis of logistics marketing in the 4th industry, and proposes a innovative and effective model of constructing theory.

To overcome limitations of test scope, schedule and cost, M&S(Modeling & Simulation) technique has been applied for T&E(Test and Evaluation) of the state-of-art weapon systems. This paper proposes an air defense simulation software framework to reduce both redundancy an[1 programming errors in system simulator. The proposed framework consists of a 'model' and a 'middleware' The 'middleware' is a reliable communication service layer that supports not only HLA(High Level Architecture) which is an international standard in M&S but also TCP/IP, UDP and etc. The main role of 'model' is to schedule and to run the real-time distributed simulation. The proposed framework has been applied to M-SAM(Middle range Surface to Air Missile) system simulator. The proposed framework's scheduling and communication performance results are satisfactory and were measured by hardwired NTP(Network Timer Protocol) time-stamp with GPS(Global Positioning System) timer for better precision.

The technique of posttensioning has been used successfully to improve the performance of existing concrete structures. However, very few applications of this technique can be found in steel structures. Posttensioning by means of high strength cable or bar can be used to effectively increase the working load capacity of Truss Bridges. The benefits of posttensioning trusses can be achieved in strengthening of existing structures as well as in the design of new structures. In this paper, the elastic behavior of posttensioned trusses with straight and draped tendon profiles is examined. For the analysis of posttensioned trusses in the elastic range of behavior, two methods are presented, namely, the flexibility method and the mixed-method, i.e., a combination of the stiffness and flexibility methods. Using the presented methods, the effects of design variables such as the tendon profile, truss type, prestress force, and tendon eccentricity on the working load and deflection of trusses are studied. The results show that the allowable load of truss increases proportionally with increase in prestress force and eccentricity. Posttesioning enlarges the elastic range, increases redundancy, and reduces deflection and member stresses. Thus, the remaining life of a truss bridge can be increased relatively inexpensively.

Electronic equipment used in satellites are demanding extremely high reliability, so they should be designed to have immunity for some critical faults by using redundancy component. Generally, Communication satellites are assigned to meet the 15 years mission lifetime, of the analysis about faults must be performed to electronic equipments of satellite. This paper is a summary of the fault tolerance design research of command processor, the improvement of reliability and trade-off study of fault tolerance design result. The reliability prediction value of the satellite component used in this research was taken from Koreasat 3 and Kompsat 1. It is important to perform many trade-off studies for fault tolerance design, especially to choose the most proper fault tolerance method for the specified fault scenario.

Moving target defense, as a 'game-changing' security technique for network warfare, realizes proactive defense by increasing network dynamics, uncertainty and redundancy. How to select the best countermeasure from the candidate countermeasures to maximize defense payoff becomes one of the core issues. In order to improve the dynamic analysis for existing decision-making, a novel approach of selecting the optimal countermeasure using game theory is proposed. Based on the signal game theory, a multi-stage adversary model for dynamic defense is established. Afterwards, the payoffs of candidate attack-defense strategies are quantified from the viewpoint of attack surface transfer. Then the perfect Bayesian equilibrium is calculated. The inference of attacker type is presented through signal reception and recognition. Finally the countermeasure for selecting optimal defense strategy is designed on the tradeoff between defense cost and benefit for dynamic network. A case study of attack-defense confrontation in small-scale LAN shows that the proposed approach is correct and efficient.
