Vortex-induced oscillation is a type of aeroelastic phenomenon, to which extended structures such as long-span bridges are most susceptible. The vortex-induced vibration (VIV) behaviors of a concerned bridge were investigated conventionally in virtue of wind tunnel tests on string-mounted sectional models. This necessitates the building of a linkage between the response of the sectional model and that of the prototype structure. Although many released literatures have related to this issue and provided suggestions, there is a lack of consistency among them. In this study, some theoretical models describing the vortex-induced structural motion, including the linear empirical model, the nonlinear empirical model and the modified (or generalized) nonlinear empirical model, are firstly reviewed. Then, the concept of equivalent mass density is introduced based on the principle that an equal input of energy should result in identical structural amplitudes. Based on these, the theoretical linkages between the amplitude of a section model and that corresponding to the prototype bridge are discussed with different analytical models. Theoretical derivation indicates that such connections are dependent mainly on two factors, one is the presupposed shape of deformation, and the other is the theoretical VIV model employed. The theoretical analysis in this study shows that, in comparison to the nonlinear empirical models, the linear one can result in obvious larger estimations of the full bridges' responses, especially in cases of cable-stayed bridges.

There are many types of speed reducer for industrial uses. However the cycloid speed reducer is widely used in manipulators based on excellent performance of low backlash, high reduction ratio and compact size. It is essential to use precision speed reducer for accuracy of position controls on robot systems and electric vehicles. The cycloid speed reducer has a eccentric rotating motion and offset to avoid some problem of assembly, so it has a disadvantage for vibration. In this paper, a multi-body dynamic model is developed for a cycloid speed reducer and the dynamic behaviors of the reducer are investigated. The cycloid speed reducer consists of cycloidal plate gears, housing gear, input shaft, output pin and shaft, and eccentric bearings. Using a CAD program, each component of cycloid reducer is modeled based on the offset and eccentric. Multi-body simulations using Recurdyn and test using a rig tester are performed. As a result, the pin reaction force and the amplitude of housing displacement are increased by the larger offset and smaller eccentric value of cycloid reducer.

For nondestructive inspection of electron beam (EB) welding part in automotive power transmission assembly, a pulse-echo ultrasonic testing apparatus in water immersion has been applied using the ultrasonic waves with a frequency of 10MHz. However various problems have appeared during the ultrasonic inspection, which led to some significant mistakes in automatic quality evaluation of the welding parts. Experimental study showed that the state of water couplant medium containing some amount of contaminants, rusts and anti-corrosion agents had considerable influences on the reduction of ultrasonic amplitudes during wave propagation. The amplitude reduction depending on the coupling medium state could bring about some mis-diagnoses for defects in the welding parts. The results proposed that for a reliable inspection of defects in welds the state of water medium should be kept in about 15 volume fractions (vol.%) of anti-corrosion agents and in minimized contaminants.

TMED(Transmission Mounted Electric Device) parallel hybrid configuration can realize EV(Electric Vehicle) mode by disengaging the clutch between an engine and a transmission-mounted motor to improve efficiencies of low load driving and regenerative braking. In the EV mode, however, jerk can be induced since there are insufficient damping elements in the drive-train. Though the jerk gives demoralizing influence upon driving comport, adding a physical damper is not applicable due to constraints of the layout. This study suggests the jerk reduction control, composed of active damping method and torque profiling method, to suppress the jerk without hardware modification. The former method creates a virtual damper by generating absorbing torque in the opposite direction of the oscillation. The latter method reduces impulse on the mated gear teeth of the drive-train by limiting the gradient of traction torque when the direction of the torque is reversed. To validate the effectiveness of the suggested strategy, a series of vehicle tests are carried out and it is observed that the amplitude of the oscillation can be reduced by up to 83%.

Floor Impact Noise is a structure-borne noise which is mainly caused by vibration of concrete slabs. The majority of previous studies have focused on investigating performance of absorbing sheets on the reduction of floor impact noise. But absorbing sheets do not efficiently reduce heavy-weight floor impact noise level because it cannot absorb slab vibration, which is the fundamental noise source. In this study, double-floor system was developed in order to reduce floor impact noise level in residual buildings. This floor system reduces heavy-weight impact noise level by reducing vibration response at the center of slab, which has maximum amplitude in the 1st vibration mode. In order to identify the performance of the double-floor system, experiments were planned. Primary test parameters are span of double floor, arrangement and types of absorbing sheets.
An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effect of periodic blowing and suction on a turbulent boundary layer. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) was used to probe the characteristics of the flow. The local forcing was introduced to the boundary layer via a sinusoidally-oscillating jet issuing from a thin spanwise slot. Three forcing frequencies (f$^{+}$=0.044, 0.066 and 0.088) with a fixed forcing amplitude (A$^{+}$=0.6) were employed at $Re_{=690. The effect of the forcing angles ($\alpha$=60$^{\circ}$ , 90$^{\circ}$ and 120$^{\circ}$ ) was investigated under the fixed forcing frequency (f$^{+}$=0.088). The PIV results showed that the wall region velocity decreases on imposition of the local forcing. Inspection of phase-averaged velocity profiles revealed that spanwise large-scale vortices were generated in the downstream of the slot and persist further downstream. The highest reduction in skin friction was achieved at highest forcing frequency (f$^{+}$=0.088) and a forcing angle of $\alpha$=120$^{\circ}$. The spatial fraction of the vortices was examined to analyze the skin friction reduction.

This study produced a design curve and fatigue limit for a variation in volume ratio and reduction ratio of TiNi/Al composites. In many cases, stress-life curve does not indicate fatigue limit, so it was presented by probabilistic-stress-life curve. Goodman diagram was used to analyze the fatigue strength of materials with a finite life determined by repeated load and the fatigue strength of endurance limit with an infinite life. The fatigue experiment was conducted using the scenk-type plane bending specimen in same shape. The result of the fatigue test, which had been conducted under consistent stress amplitude, was examined. (i) The optimal condition for TiNi/Al in accordance with hot pressing (ii) Impacts of fatigue limit caused by a variation in reduction ratio and volume ratio of TiNi/Al composites (iii) Probability distribution for fatigue limit of TiNi/Al2024 and TiNi/Al6061.
In this paper, considering PAR of transmitter which is pointed out OFDM system's problem, we designed Coded OFDM (COFDM) system and estimated BER and SNR using PAR reduction method In order to evaluate performance, we compared M-ary PSK (M-ary Phase Shift Keying) with M-ary QAM (M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation). In result, performance of 16-PSK and 16-QAM came to good Moreover, 16-QAM showed better performance of about 2 dB in 10-3 error probability and performance of about 5 dB in Peak power clipping than that of 16-PSK.

An active modal-fuzzy control method using hydraulic actuators is presented for seismic response reduction. In the proposed control system, a new fuzzy controller designed in the modal space produces the desired active control force. This type controller has all advantages of the fuzzy control algorithm and modal approach. Since it is very difficult to select input variables used in fuzzy controller among an amount of state variables in the active fuzzy control system, the presented algorithm adopts the modal control algorithm which is able to consider more easily information of all state variables in civil structures that are usually dominated by first few modes. In other words, all information of the whole structure can be considered in the control algorithm evaluated to reduce seismic responses and it can be efficient for especially civil structures. In addition, the presented algorithm is expected to magnify utility and performance caused by efficiency that the fuzzy algorithm can handle complex model more easily. An active modal-fuzzy control scheme is applied together with a Kalman filter and a low-pass filter to be applicable to real civil structures. A Kalman filter is considered to estimate modal states and a low-pass filter was used to eliminate spillover problem. The results of the numerical simulations for a wide amplitude range of loading conditions show that the proposed active modal-fuzzy control system can be beneficial in reducing seismic responses of civil structures.
An experimental study is performed to analyze flow structures behind a local suction/blowing in a flat-plate turbulent boundary layer, The local forcing is given to the boundary layer flow by means of a sinusoidally oscillating jet issuing from a thin spanwise slot at the wall. The Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness is about $Re_{\theta}=1700$. The effects of local forcing are scrutinized by altering the forcing frequency $(0.011{\leq}f^+{\leq}0.044)$. The forcing amplitude is fixed at $A_0=0.4$. It is found that a small local forcing reduces the skin friction, and this reduction increases with the forcing frequency. A phase-averaging technique is employed to capture the coherent structures. Velocity signals are decomposed into a periodic part and a fluctuating part. An organized spanwise vortical structure is generated by the local forcing. The larger reduction of skin friction for the higher forcing frequencies is attributed to the diminished adverse effect of the secondary vortex. An investigation of the random fluctuation components reveals that turbulent energy is concentrated near the center of vortical structures.
