An electroplating on the lead frame fabricated from domestic copper plate was studied experimentally. In this study, nickel was plated on the thin copper lead frame and silver layer was coated on the nickel film in the cyanide electrolyte. The effect of process variables such as current density, plating time, coating thickness and flow rate of electrolytic solution on the properties of coating was investigated. Some samples on each step were fabricated during electroplating. The results obtained from polarization measurement, observation of SEM photograph, adhesion test of coating and microhardness test are as follows. On silver plating, polarization resistance of potentiostatic cathodic polarization curve is reduced as the flow rate of Ag electrolytic solution increases. And above resistance is also reduced when the minor chemicals of sodium cyanide and sodium carbonate are added in potassium silver cyanide bath. The reduced polarization resistance makes silver deposition on the cathode easy. An increase in the current density and the coating thickness causes the particle size of deposit to coarsen, and consequently the Knoop microhardness of the coating decreases. On selective plating an increase in the flow rate of plating solution lead to do high speed plating with high current density. In this case, the surface morphology of deposit is of fine microstructure with high Knoop hardness. An increasing trend of the adhesion of coating was shown with increasing the current density and flow rate of electrolytic solution.
The main objectives of this research program were to study the ozonation characteristics of phenol wastewater in the continuous packed colamn reactor(PCR) and the bubble column reactor (BCR) using ozone and to provide the fundamentals of ozonizing the phenol wastewater. Among various influencing factors that affect on phenol decomposition through the oxidation by ozone, contacting method, and ozone flow rate were chosen as reaction parameters. The results were obtained from two different types of contacting methods where the countercurrent flow was more efficient than the cocurrent flow in both the phenol removal efficiency and the ozone utilization efficiency. Furthermore, PCR showed the phenol removal efficiency 1.6 to 3% higher than that of BCR in both contacting methods, as well as the ozone utilization efficiency, suggesting that the countercurrent flow is more efficient than the cocurrent flow. The phenol removal efficiency and the ozone utilization efficiency were reduced in both reactors as the influent ozone flow rate increased. Upon varing flow rate from 0.5l/min to 2.0 l/min by 0.5 l/min, the phenol removal efficiency was reduced approximately from 8.5% to 10.5% and the ozone utilization efficiency was reduced approximately from 6% to 8% in both reactors. The performance of PCR was superior to that of BCR in the aspects of phenol removal and ozone utilization efficiency.
Venturi has long been an attractive method of measuring flow rate in a variety of engineering applications since pressure loss is relatively small compared with other measuring methods. The current study focuses on making detailed uncertainty estimations as the upstream flow disturbance affects uncertainty levels of the flow rate measurement. Upstream flow disturbance can be determined by 9 different swirl generators. Measurement uncertainty of flow rate has been estimated by a quantitative uncertainty analysis which is based on the ANSI/ASME PTC 19.1-2005 standard. The results of flow rate uncertainty analysis show that the case with systematic error has higher than that without systematic error. Especially the result with systematic error exhibits that the uncertainty of flow rate was gradually increased by swirl flow disturbance. The uncertainty of flow rate measurement can be mainly affected by differential pressure and discharge coefficient. Flow disturbance can be also reduced by increasing of the upstream straight length of Venturi.
Characteristics of flow rate control has been studied for a cavitating venturi adopted in a liquid rocket propellant feed system. Numerical simulation has been peformed to give about $10\%$ discrepancy of mass flow rate to the experimental data for cavitating flow regime. Mass flow rate is confirmed to be saturated for pressure difference higher than $3\times10^5$pa when the upstream pressure is fixed to $22.8\times10^5$pa and the downstream pressure is varied. The evaporation amount depends substantially to non-condensable gas concentration. However the mass flow rate characteristic is relatively insensitive to the mass fraction of non-condensable gas. So it is reduced by only $2\%$ when the non- condensable gas concentration is increased from 1.5PPM to 150PPM. From the previous comparison the expansions of the non-condensable gas and the evaporation of liquid are verified to have same effect to pressure recovery.
The analysis has been performed on the blockage effect at the propellant flow passage in a liquid rocket engine. This simulates an example of emergency situation where flow passage is partially blocked. The analysis method has been validated by predicting the pump head and flow rate within 1% precision against the measured data of turbopump-gas generator coupled test. When the oxidizer passage is reduced it is predicted that the mixture ratio decreases, the oxidizer pump head increases and the gas generator pressure increases. When the fuel passage is reduced it is predicted that the mixture ratio increases, fuel flow rate decreases and the fuel pump head increases.
The vaneless diffusers are widely used in industrial centrifugal compressors which are required to operate within a wide flow range. When very high pressure gases are handled by centrifugal compressor. rotating stall is a serious problem because of the occurance of large aerodynamic exciting forces. Rotating stall mostly often occurs in the impellers but it can occur in vaneless diffusers as well. In this experimental study, the rotating stall in vaneless diffuser with radial type centrifugal impeller was measured by changing the flow rate with I-type, X-type hotwire. As the result, it was cleared which type of rotating stall of the impeller stall would occur and how many stall cells would appear relating with the flow rate. As the flow rate reduced, the propagation speed of rotating stall was reduced. But the stall cell number unchanged with respect to the flow rate.
Shunt valves used to treat patients with hydrocephalus were tested to investigate influence of intracranial pressure pulsation on their flow control characteristics. Five commercial shunt valves were tested in the flow loop that simulates pulsed flow under pressure pulsation. As 20cc/hr of flow rate was adjusted at a constant pressure, application of $40mmH_2O$ of pressure pulse increased the flow rate by $67.9\%.$ As a 90cm length catheter was connected to the valve outlet, increase in the flow rate was substantially reduced to $17.5\%.$ As the flow rate was adjusted to 40cc/hr at a constant pressure, increase in the flow rate was $51.1\%$ with the same pressure pulsation of $40mmH_2O$. The results indicated that pressure-flow control characteristics of shunt valves implanted above human brain ventricle is quite different from those obtained by syringe pump test at constant pressures right after manufacture. The influence of pressure pulsation was observed to be more significant at low flow rate and the flexibility of the outlet silicone catheter was estimated to significantly reduce flow increase due to pressure pulsation.
This study is investigated on flow analysis according to grill configuration of radiator. The stream of flow which pass through radiator grill in car body and the contour of pressure distribution are estimated by the basis. As the magnitude of resistance force which flow affects the car body is investigated so that the power reduction can be reduced. As the pressure inside radiator grill is assessed, more efficiency can be investigated in order that the flow rate inside car body can be increased. Model 2 has the most air resistance and model 1 has the least among model 1, 2 and 3. Model 1 has the most air flow rate at inside. There are model 3 and 2 simulated according to flow rate. As the curved surface at radiator grill configuration increases in number, air flow rate becomes distributed uniformly. By considering the effect on air resistance and air flow rate at radiator grill, model 3 becomes the most effective configuration.
Flow control butterfly valve(FCBV) is known to have difficulty in controlling flow rate along valve opening due to its high flow rate. In low opening condition, the butterfly valve also has some shortcomings such as noise, vibration and erosion which are mostly caused by cavitation effects. Therefore, the FCBV requires proper remedies to reduce cavitation effects and to improve flow control performance. Numerical analysis is applied to FCBV flow to find effects of design factors such as seat diameter and valve opening rate. Cases with 3 different sizes of seat diameter and various valve opening rate are selected for the numerical analysis. From the analysis results, it is found that the FCBV with small seat diameter shows better pressure loss performance and reduced cavitation effects.
