Recently, as carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have increased overall and contributed to air pollution, and awareness of environmental degradation has grown. This study examines the impacts and causalities of economic globalization, economic growth, energy consumption, and capital formation on CO2 emissions in China over the period 1971-2014. The vector error correction model (VECM) and Granger causality test on time-series data are employed to observe the interactions between CO2 emission, economic globalization, and various economic factors, including economic growth, energy consumption, and capital formation, since China's early stage of globalization. The empirical results indicate the existence of bidirectional causalities from economic growth, gross capital formation, economic globalization, and CO2 emission to energy consumption, and bidirectional casualty from energy consumption to CO2 emission relationships in the short run. The findings of this study suggest that indirect bidirectional causalities from economic growth, economic globalization, and capital formation to CO2 emission through energy consumption are observed. Moreover, economic globalization accelerates CO2 emission in the short run but decreases it in the long run. To reduce CO2 emissions, and to ensure sustainable economic growth and economic globalization progress, some crucial energy-saving and energy-efficiency policies, regulatory rules, and laws are recommended.

The scenario of $CO_2$ disposal in the deep-sea are thought to be possible method to reduce atmospheric $CO_2$ concentrations. However, it is necessary to clarify the effects of elevated $CO_2$ concentrations on both marine organisms and marine ecosystems. In this paper the literatures on the biological impact of elevated $CO_2$ concentrations in seawater and recent studies on the effects of elevated $CO_2$ concentrations on marine animals are reviewed. Elevated $CO_2$ concentrations may affect the physiological functions of marine animals such as acid-base regulation, blood oxygen transport and respiratory system, and ultimately lead to the death of marine animals. Although the fish used in the early studies on $CO_2$ effects are temperate, shallow-water species, deep-sea species should be experimented for the future study on $CO_2$ sequestration in the deep ocean.
Spherical nanosized cobalt powder with an average size of 150-400 nm was successfully prepared at room temperature from cobalt sulfate heptahydrate ($CoSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$). Wet chemical reduction method was adopted to synthesize nano cobalt powder and hypophosphorous acid ($H_3PO_2$) was used as reduction agent. Both the HCP and the FCC Co phase were developed while $CoSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ concentration ranged from 0.7 M to 1.1 M. Secondary phase such as $Co(OH)_2$ and $CO_3O_4$ were also observed. Peaks for the crystalline Co phase having HCP and FCC structure crystallized as increasing the concentration of $H_3PO_2$, indicating that the amount of reduction agent was enough to reduce $Co(OH)_2$. Consequently, a homogeneous Co phase could be developed without second phase when the $H_3PO_2/CoSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ ratio exceeded 7.

A mathematical model was established for estimating changes in pressure and volume of permeable kimchi packages. The model comprises the CO2 gas production from kimchi and permeation of O2, CO2 and N2 through the permeable film or sheet. Using the developed model, the effects of various packaging variables on the pressure and volume changes were analyzed for rigid and flexible packag es of kimchi(3% salt content) at 15oC, and then effect of storage temperature was also looked into. In case of rigid pack of 400g, using the plastic sheet of high CO2 permeability and initial vacuumizing can help to relieve the problem of pressure build up. The lower fill weight can further reduce the pressure, but will result in higher packaging cost. For the flexible package of 3 kg, highly permeable films such as low density polyethylene(LDPE) and polypropylene can reduce the volume expansion. Higher ratio of CO2 permeability to O2 and N2 permeabilities are effective in reducing the volume expansion. Increased surface area cannot contribute to reduction of volume expansion for highly permeable flexible packages of kimchi. For the impermeable packages, pressure and volume at over ripening stage (acidity 1.0%) increase with decreased temperature, while those at optimum ripening stage(acidity 0.6%) change little with temperature. Pressure of permeable rigid LDPE package increases with tem perature at any ripening stage, and temperature affects the volume of flexible LDPE package very slightly. Experimental verification of the present results and package design with economical consid eration are needed as a next step for practical application.

The proprietary post-combustion CO2 solvent (KoSol) developed by the Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) was applied at the Shanghai Shidongkou CO2 Capture Pilot Plant (China Huaneng CERI, capacity: 120,000 ton CO2/yr) of the China Huaneng Group (CHNG) for performance evaluation. The key results of the pilot test and data on the South Korean/Chinese electric power market were used to calculate the predicted cost of CO2 avoided upon deployment of CO2 capture technology in commercial-scale coal-fired power plants. Sensitivity analysis was performed for the key factors. It is estimated that, in the case of South Korea, the calculated cost of CO2 avoided for an 960 MW ultra-supercritical (USC) coal-fired power plant is approximately 35~44 USD/tCO2 (excluding CO2 transportation and storage costs). Conversely, applying the same technology to a 1,000 MW USC coal-fired power plant in Shanghai, China, results in a slightly lower cost (32~42 USD/tCO2). This study confirms the importance of international cooperation that takes into consideration the geographical locations and the performance of CO2 capture technology for the involved countries in the process of advancing the economic efficiency of large-scale CCS technology aimed to reduce greenhouse gases

Effort to reduce energy consumptions or CO2 emissions is global trend. To follow this trend, spatial studies related to characteristics affecting energy consumptions or CO2 emissions have been conducted, but only with the focus on spatial dependence, not on spatial heterogeneity. The aim of this study is to investigate spatial heterogeneity patterns of CO2 emission based on socio-economic factors, land-use characteristics and traffic infrastructure of Seoul city. Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) analysis was performed with 423 administrative district data in Seoul. The results suggest that population and employment densities, road density and railway length in most districts are found to have positive impact on the CO2 emissions. Residential and green area densities also have the highest positive impact on CO2 emissions in most districts of Gangnam-gu. The resulting model can be used to identify the spatial patterns of CO2 emissions at district level in Seoul. Eventually it can contribute to local energy policy and planning of metropolitan area.
The generation of high purity hydrogen from reformed hydrocarbon fuels, or syngas, is essential for efficient operation of the fuel cell (PEMFC, Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell). Usually, major components of reformed gas are $H_2$, CO, $CO_2$ and $H_2O$. Especially a major component, CO poisons the electrode of fuel cells. The water gas shifter (WGS) that shifts CO to $CO_2$ and simultaneously produces $H_2$, was developed to a two stage catalytic conversion process involving a high temperature shifter (HTS) and a low temperature shifter (LTS). Also, experiments were carried out to reduce the carbon monoxide up to $3{\sim}4%$ in the HTS and lower than 5,000 ppm via the LTS.

Formation of protective iron carbonate films in $CO_2$ corrosion can reduce corrosion rate substantially and the effects have been incorporated in various prediction models. The $CO_2$ corrosion with the presence of free acetic acid is known to increase corrosion rate below scaling temperature. The possible interaction between the formation of iron acetate and iron carbonate films can affect the protectiveness of the film. The study is done using 3% NaCl solution under stagnant $CO_2$ -saturated condition at the scaling temperatures at various pH values and HAC concentrations. The result show that the presence of HAc does not affect the formation of protective iron carbonate film but delays the attainment of protective iron carbonate due to a possibility of solubilising of ferrous ions and thinning of the films.

To overcome the shortage of conventional TWC that is activated at high temperature, higher than 25$0^{\circ}C$, photocatalyst is considered as an new technology. Because the photocatalytic reaction of photocatalyst is not a thermo mechanical reaction, it is necessary to heat the system to start the reaction. It can be activated just by ultra violet light that includes wavelengths shorter than 400 nanometers even at ambient temperature. In this study photocatalytic reduction of hydrocarbon was investigated with a model gas test. To understand the effects of co-existence gases on the hydrocarbon reduction by photoreaction, CO and NO, $O_2, H_2O$ gases those are components of exhaust gases of gasoline engine are supplied with C3H8/N2 to a photoreactor. The photoreactor contains $TiO_2$ photocatalyst powders and a UV bulb. The results show that oxygen is the most important factor to reduce HC emission with photocatalyst. Photocatalyst seems to have a good probability for automotive application to reduce cold start HC emissions.

The aim in this study is to develop the combined EGR system with a non-thermal plasma reactor for reducing exhaust emissions and improving fuel economy in turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engines. In this study, the characteristics of soot, CO and $CO_2$ emissions under four kinds of engine loads are experimentally investigated by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, direct injection type, water-cooled turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engine with a combined plasma exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) system operating at three kinds of engine speeds. The EGR and non-thermal plasma reactor system are used to reduce $NO_x$ emissions, and the non-thermal plasma reactor and turbo intercooler system are used to reduce soot and THC emissions. The plasma system is a flat-to-flat type reactor operated by a plasma power supply. The fuel is sprayed by pilot and main injections at the variable injection timing between BTDC $15^{\circ}$ and ATDC $1^{\circ}$ according to experimental conditions. It is found that soot emissions with increasing EGR rate are increased, but are decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated at the same engine speed and load. Results also show that CO and $CO_2$ emissions are increased as EGR rate is elevated, and CO emissions are increased, but $CO_2$ emissions are decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated at the same engine speed and load.
