In this paper, it was attempted to analyze the optimal design of light emitting diode (LED), a source of back light unit (BLU). LED is beginning with commercialized red LED which is made by GaAsP compound semiconductor, and has been developed focusing on liquid crystal panel. In order to get the optimal design, optical simulation was made by analyzing luminosity shape, reflector angle, chip depth, and chip position of LED lighting. Final results show that the proposed LED characteristics were useful to increase light efficiency and it has been proven by distribution chart for actual exposed light on the light guide panel (LGP).

This paper is concerned with the studies on the effective components of anti-oxidant activity, with a view to demonstrate the anti-aging activity of Korean ginseng. Feeding the extract of Korean ginseng or its effective component to mice inhibited strongly the induction of lipid peroxidation produced by ethanol intoxication. From the extract of Korean red ginseng, one effective component Compound A, mp.143, $C_6H_6O_3$ was isolated by chromatographic purification and its chemical structure was determined as 2-meth-y1-3-hydroxy-${\gamma}-pyrone(maltol).$
Aminolysis, hydrazinolysis and alkylation of 4-methoxy and 4,9-dimethoxy-6-cyano-7-thione-5-methyl-7H furo [3,2-g] [1] benzopyridine (1 a-b) yielded 7N-substituted furobenzopyridine derivatives (2 a-e or the possible isomers 3 a-e and 4 a-b), (5 a,b and 6 a,b) and the ester (8 a,b). Hydrolysis of (la) with acetic acid gave the corresponding pyridone derivatives (7). Furobenzopyridinyl-7-thioacetyl hydrazide (9 a,b) have been prepared via alkylation of furobenzopyridine thione (1 a-b) with ethyl chloroacetate followed by condensation with hydrazine hydrate. Schiff base (11) was prepared by reacting (9a) with p. N,N-dimethyl aminobenzaldehyde in boiling ethanol. Treatment of (8a) with anthranilic acid gave the corresponding 7-substituted-4H-3,1-benzoxazine-4-one (10). We found that compound (11) increased bleeding, coagulating time, the total count of white blood cells, blood glucose level (cause hyperglycemia), enzymes (GOT, GPT) activities, concentration of urea and creatinine. On the other hand it decreased red blood cells number, haemoglobin content and haematocrite value.
This study was carried out in order to develop a compound fertilizer for raising rice seedling in trays. A compound fertilizer, a trail product, was manufactured using the major fertilizer sources of ammonium sulfate, diammonium phosphate and potassium chloride in combination with zeolite and glutamic acid fermentation waste. Besides, polyacrylamide for slow release control of the fertilzer and Tachigaren and sulfuric acid for reducing the occurrence of seedling rot were used. The component ratios of N, $P_2O_5$ and $K_2O$ of trial product were 4.19, 5.41 and 4.05 percent respectively. The dissolution rate of nitrogen component in water for the trial product with polyacrylamide was lower about fifteen percents than the product without polyacylamide in six hours. Hymexazole, main component of Thachigaren, from the product was released about 86.2 percents in forty eight hours. When the product with polyacylamide applied on red earth soil and paddy soil, the pH of soil ranged from 4.6 to 5.4 for 25 days experiment.
This study will evaluate the effect of fermented Morinda citrifolia L. extracts and its marker compounds to provide baseline data for utilizing Morinda citrifolia L. as functional health products. Morinda citrifolia L. and six marker compounds were processed on RAW 246.7 macrophage to test for XTT Cytotoxicity, measure Nitric Oxide and Cyokine formation, and analyze the expression of immune marker genes. Furthermore, LPS and fermented red ginseng extract, a common functional ingredient, are used as positive controls. Our results showed that fermented Morinda citrifolia L and six bioactive compounds did not have any cytotoxic effect in all treatment concentrations and groups. Among six bioactive compounds, SCP and ASE confirmed the formation of NO. In addition, the ASE treatment group showed increased formation of IL-6 and IL-1β and the expression of iNOS and TNF-α. Also, fermented Morinda citrifolia L extract activated the macrophage by enhancing the production of nitric oxide (NO), interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β, and the expression of COX2 compared to Morinda citrifolia L. extracts. The result of the study showed that Fermented Morinda citrifolia L. (Noni) and marker compound enhance the innate immunity activity and suggested that the bioactive compound could be applied as a marker compound. Thus, Fermented Morinda citrifolia L. (Noni) could be used as functional food material to develop immunity-enhancing products, and highly functional marker compounds can be utilized as the effective components.

This study was conducted to compare the aromatic compounds and the internal quality such as total phenolic contents, DPPH activity, and vitamin C contents in two new forma (red type and dalgom) and gom-chwi (Ligularia fischeri). Total phenolic contents were indicated 137.29mg/100g fresh wt. in gom-chwi, 158.40mg/100g fresh wt. in red type, and 180.82mg/100g fresh wt. in dalgom, red type and dalgom had higher contents than gom-chwi. DPPH activities were appeared similar result in gom-chwi (74.45%) and red type (75.59%), and dalgom (86.26%) had better than others. In vitamin C contents, gom-chwi and red variety had shown very closed results but dalgom had best result (1.81mg/100g fresh wt.). Essential oil contents of red type (0.164% of fresh wt.) and dalgom (0.290% of fresh wt.) had higher contents than gom-chwi (0.060%). Analysis of major components of essential oil by GC/MSD, identified 43 compounds in gom-chwi, 44 compounds in red type, and 31 compounds in dalgom. N-containing compound only detected in dalgom. Comparison of six aromatic compounds for fragrance (a-pinene, ${\beta}$-pinene, ${\beta}$-phellandrene, a-phellandrene, 3-carene, and limonene) was indicated red type had higher contents and dalgom had lower contents than gom-chwi. Dalgom had higher contents of total phenolic, DPPH activity, vitamin C, and essential oil than red type and gom-chwi. This result had shown the dalgom had better characters for new cultivar.

The present study was designed to explore the immunotoxic effects of orally administered aluminum (AI) on pregnant rats (n = 60) and their growing fetuses and consequently on the animal wealth. The animals were randomly allocated into three equal groups of 20 rats each. The first group has no treatment and kept as a control (G1). The second and third groups of pregnant rats were treated orally with aluminum chloride at 345 mg/Kg b.wt. The second group (G2) received the tested compound from the $6^{th}$ day of gestation to the end of weaning, whereas the third group (G3) received the tested compound from the $15^{th}$h day of gestation to the end of weaning. Control and treated animals (dams and offspring) were immunized ip with (0.5 ml) 20% sheep red blood cell (SRBC) suspension seven days before the end of experiments. At the end of exposure, ten dams and ten offspring from each group were used for assessment of cell-mediated immunity and a similar number of animals were sacrificed for evaluating the humoral immune response and serum protein profile. Aluminum chloride exposure of dams ($G_2&G_3$) caused significant suppression of both cell mediated and humoral immune responses in the obtained offsprings compared to the control group ($G_1$) without any significant effect on the immune responses of these dams. Moreover, the serum total globulins, albumin/ globulin (A/G) ratio and gamma globulin fraction were significantly decreased in the treated dam's offsprings compared to the corresponding controls while the serum total protein and all serum protein fractions showed non significant difference between the control and treated dams and between the two treated dam groups themselves. There were no histopathological changes observed in thymus, spleen and liver of the control and treated dams. Thymus of treated dam's offsprings (G2) showed lymphoid depletion in both cortex and medulla. Their spleens showed lymphoid depletion in the white pulps and congestion with hemosiderosis in the red pulps. Liver of treated dam's offsprings showed dilation and congestion of its central vein with degenerative changes in the hepatocytes. These histopathological changes were more severe in G2 than in G3 offsprings. It can be concluded that gestational and/ or lactation exposure of pregnant dams to AI chloride caused suppression of both cellular and humoral immune responses of their offsprings.
Lithospermum erythrorhizon has long been used as a traditional oriental medicine. In this study, the acute and 28-day subacute oral dose toxicity studies of hexane extracts of the roots of L. erythrorhizon (LEH) were performed in Sprague-Dawley rats. In the acute toxicity study, LEH was administered once orally to 5 male and 5 female rats at dose levels of 500, 1,000, and 2,000 mg/kg. Mortality, clinical signs, and body weight changes were monitored for 14 days. Salivation, soft stool, soiled perineal region, compound-colored stool, chromaturia and a decrease in body weight were observed in the extract-treated groups, and no deaths occurred during the study. Therefore, the approximate lethal dose (ALD) of LEH in male and female rats was higher than 2,000 mg/kg. In the subacute toxicity study, LEH was administered orally to male and female rats for 28 days at dose levels of 25, 100, and 400 mg/kg/day. There was no LEH-related toxic effect in the body weight, food consumption, ophthalmology, hematology, clinical chemistry and organ weights. Compound-colored (black) stool, chromaturia and increased protein, ketone bodies, bilirubin and occult blood in urine were observed in the male and female rats treated with the test substance. In addition, the necropsy revealed dark red discoloration of the kidneys, and the histopathological examination showed presence of red brown pigment or increased hyaline droplets in the renal tubules of the renal cortex. However, there were no test substance-related toxic effects in the hematology and clinical chemistry, and no morphological changes were observed in the histopathological examination of the kidneys. Therefore, it was determined that there was no significant toxicity because the changes observed were caused by the intrinsic color of the test substance. These results suggest that the no-observed-adverse-effect Level (NOAEL) of LEH is greater than 400 mg/kg/day in both sexes.

Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) is an oriental herbal preparation obtained from Panax ginseng Meyer (Araliaceae). To expand our understanding of the action of KRG on central nervous system (CNS) function, we examined the effects of KRG on tissue plasminogen activator (tPA)/plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) expression in rat primary astrocytes. KRG extract was treated in cultured rat primary astrocytes and neuron in a concentration range of 0.1 to 1.0 mg/mL and the expression of functional tPA/PAI-1 was examined by casein zymography, Western blot and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. KRG extracts increased PAI-1 expression in rat primary astrocytes in a concentration dependent manner (0.1 to 1.0 mg/mL) without affecting the expression of tPA itself. Treatment of 1.0 mg/mL KRG increased PAI-1 protein expression in rat primary astrocytes to $319.3{\pm}65.9%$ as compared with control. The increased PAI-1 expression mediated the overall decrease in tPA activity in rat primary astrocytes. Due to the lack of PAI-1 expression in neuron, KRG did not affect tPA activity in neuron. KRG treatment induced a concentration dependent activation of PI3K, p38, ERK1/2, and JNK in rat primary astrocytes and treatment of PI3K or MAPK inhibitors such as LY294002, U0126, SB203580, and SP600125 (10 ${\mu}M$ each), significantly inhibited 1.0 mg/mL KRG-induced expression of PAI-1 and down-regulation of tPA activity in rat primary astrocytes. Furthermore, compound K but not other ginsenosides such as Rb1 and Rg1 induced PAI-1 expression. KRG-induced up-regulation of PAI-1 in astrocytes may play important role in the regulation of overall tPA activity in brain, which might underlie some of the beneficial effects of KRG on CNS such as neuroprotection in ischemia and brain damaging condition as well as prevention or recovery from addiction.

The demand of ginseng which has attracted many people for a long time has expanded further with great spotlight ; but it has caused anxiety of some safety-sensitive customers due to unavoidable pesticides and its weakness for disease and insect pest. On the other hand, sluggish studies on effective doses of ginseng and red ginseng which is produced and processed after hardship have worsened confusion of customers. Against this backdrop, this study is about to find out measures for safe ginseng cultivation and effective dose of white or red ginseng which are safely produced and reaches meaningful conclusions as follows ; As for a study to minimize the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides or to change them into environmentally-friendly products, ginseng cultivation utilizing Lime Sulfur complex might be an alternative. The effects of Lime Sulfur complex are great on ginseng seeding with under 200 times compound KHCO3 and five-year-old ginseng with over 200 times compound using NaHCO3. When using with green materials like Bordeaux mixture, there would be great potential to realize ginseng without pesticide use.
