Consumer prosocialness and the attitude-intention relations in fashion product recycling (소비자 친사회성과 패션 제품 재활용에 대한 태도-의도 관계)

  • The objectives of this study were: (1) to identify differences in consumer attitudes and intentions to recycle fashion products using three types of recycling (including resale, reform, and donation), and (2) to examine the moderating effects of consumer prosocialness on the relationships between attitude and intention for each type of fashion product recycling. Men and women aged 20 years and over were recruited from a marketing research firm panel. Participants completed an online questionnaire incorporating measures for attitudes and intentions to resale, reform, and donate fashion products, prosocialness, frequency of purchasing fashion products, monthly amount of spending on fashion products, and demographic information. Data from 224 participants were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and PROCESS macro. The results demonstrated that consumers had significantly different attitudes and intentions depending on type of fashion product recycling. Consumers had more positive attitudes toward donation compared to resale and reform types of recycling. Consumer intentions toward resale and donation were significantly higher than their intention to reform. Furthermore, this study confirmed that the attitude-intention gap in fashion product recycling can be explained by individual prosocialness. The moderating effects of prosocialness on the associations between attitude and intention to recycle were significant. The implications of increasing consumers' behavior intention to recycle fashion products was discussed and future research suggestions are provided.

  • This study investigates two-stage return policy and recycling issues in an e-marketplace supply chain consisting of consumers, a retailer and a manufacturer. The manufacturer, a focal company in the e-marketplace supply chain, considers the recycling of commercial returns so offers the retailer a buy-back contract of which transfer payment consists of a wholesale price and a buy-back price. Then, under the given contract offer, the retailer determines a selling price and a return policy to control consumers' demand and return requests. We consider the retailer's opportunistic behavior and supply chain coordination issues based on the principal-agent paradigm. We compare the first-best and second-best optima and conduct comparative static analyses to evaluate the performance results of the buy-back contract and provide important managerial implications.

  • Due to recent demolition works of aged concrete bridges and buildings, a considerable amount of waste concrete material have been reclaimed without crushing works. It is well believed that waste concrete could be used for recycling good coarse aggregate, which could contribute to partly reduce environmental pollutions due to noise and dust by demolition works, and also to solve the shortage of natural aggregate for new concrete works. This experimental study is to investigate the flexural and shear behaviour of recycling RC beams with pertinent amount of recycling coarse aggregate, such as 30%, 50% and 100% of total aggregate volume. It is concluded from the test that structural behaviour of recycled concrete is determined to have similar behaviour of normal concrete.

The effects of fashion consumers' moral identity and empathy propensity on ethical consumption attitude and donation behavior (패션 소비자의 도덕적 정체성과 공감성향이 윤리적 소비태도 및 기부행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study analyzed the effects of fashion consumers' moral identity and empathy propensity on ethical consumption attitude and donation behavior, and the effect of ethical consumption attitude on donation behavior. The survey was conducted on consumers over the 20s who experienced the donation of fashion products, 384 responses were used for data analysis. The result showed that the internality and symbolism of moral identity had a positive effect on ethical consumption attitudes. The all factors of empathy propensity positively affected eco-friendly oriented consumption, and cognitive empathy and social empathy positively affected boycott oriented consumption. The cognitive empathy, social empathy and relational empathy positively affected community oriented consumption and practice oriented consumption. Furthermore, social empathy and relational empathy positively affected recycling oriented consumption. The eco-friendly, boycott, community, and recycling oriented consumption positively affected temporal donation. The all factors of ethical consumption attitude positively affected emotional donation, and eco-friendly, community, recycling, and practice oriented consumption positively affected material donations. The internality and symbolism of moral identity positively affected temporal and emotional donation, and the symbolism except internality positively affected material donation. The cognitive empathy, social empathy and relational empathy positively affected the temporal donation and material donation. In addition, the all factors of empathy propensity positively affected emotional donation. The results of this study will contribute to the ethical product strategy, marketing, and sustainable development of the fashion industry.

Effect of Oxidation Behavior of (Nd,Dy)-Fe-B Magnet on Heavy Rare Earth Extraction Process

  • Rare earth magnets with excellent magnetic properties are indispensable in the electric device, wind turbine, and e-mobility industries. The demand for the development of eco-friendly recycling techniques has increased to realize sustainable green technology, and the supply of rare earth resources, which are critical for the production of permanent magnets, are limited. Liquid metal extraction (LME), which is a type of pyrometallurgical recycling, is known to selectively extract the metal forms of rare earth elements. Although several studies have been carried out on the formation of intermetallic compounds and oxides, the effect of oxide formation on the extraction efficiency in the LME process remains unknown. In this study, microstructural and phase analyses are conducted to confirm the oxidation behavior of magnets pulverized by a jaw crusher. The LME process is performed with pulverized scrap, and extraction percentages are calculated to confirm the effect of the oxide phases on the extraction of Dy during the reaction. During the L ME process, Nd is completely extracted after 6 h, while Dy remains as Dy2Fe17 and Dy-oxide. Because the decomposition rate of Dy2Fe17 is faster than the reduction rate of Dy-oxide, the importance of controlling Dy-oxide on Dy extraction is confirmed.

  • Recently, since the demand of rare earth permanent magnet for high temperature applications such as an electric motor has increased, dysprosium (Dy), a heavy rare earth element, is becoming important due to severe bias in its production. To fulfill the increasing need of Dy, recycling offers as a promising alternative. In recycling of rare earths, Hydro-metallurgical extraction method is mainly used however it has adverse environmental effects. Liquid metal extraction on the other hand, is an eco-friendly and simple method as far as the reduction of rare earth metal oxide is concerned. Therefore, liquid metal extraction was studied in this research as an alternative to the hydro-metallurgical recycling method. Magnesium (Mg) is selected as solvent metal because it doesn't form intermetallic compounds with Fe, B and has a low melting and low boiling point. Extraction behavior of Dy in (Nd,Dy)-Fe-B magnet is observed and effect of Mg ratio on extraction of Dy is confirmed.

Comparative Analysis of Consumer Attitudes and Ethical Purchasing Behavior on RUR Knitted Fashion Products According to Environmental Consciousnessof Female Consumers in Their 30s and 40s (30~40대 여성 소비자의 환경의식에 따른 RUR 니트 패션 제품에 대한 소비자 태도, 윤리적 구매 행동 비교 분석)

  • This study examined how middle-aged female consumers' environmental consciousness influences their attitudes and ethical purchasing behavior toward RUR (recycling, upcycling, and reuse) knit products. The research employs a survey method, targeting 30-40 year old women residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province. On-line and off-line data collection were conducted. The following conclusions emerged through statistical analyses, including factor analysis, cluster analysis, t-test, and regression analysis. Firstly, respondents' environmental consciousness variables were classified into two factors, delineating high and low environmental consciousness clusters, demonstrating significant differences between them. Secondly, the high environmental consciousness cluster exhibited more positive consumer attitudes and ethical purchasing behavior towards RUR knit products. Moreover, it was established that environmental pollution consciousness and eco-friendly product purchase consciousness influenced environmental consciousness on consumer attitudes and ethical purchasing behavior. Lastly, the study confirmed that consumer attitudes mediated environmental consciousness and ethical purchasing behavior. In conclusion, this research establishes a meaningful link between environmental consciousness, consumer attitudes, and ethical purchasing behavior in 30-40 year old women. Environmentally conscious groups positively influence attitudes toward RUR knitted fashion and promote ethical purchasing behavior. Consequently, it is recommended that knit fashion companies prioritize environmental consciousness and eco-friendly products in their marketing strategies. Furthermore, diversifying the application of RUR knit products, coupled with eco-friendly production techniques, can amplify their appeal and utility, ensuring a positive impact on consumer behavior.

An Analysis of the Curriculum for School Uniform Recycling Education and the Need for School Uniform Recycling (교복 재활용 필요성과 교복 재활용 교육을 위한 교과과정 분석)

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the need for school uniform recycling and to review the school uniform recycling-related education. 231 female high school students were asked to answer regarding the wearing state of school uniform and their satisfaction level. 10 subjects in middle school technology/home economy were evaluated. As the result, the students wore 1~2 pieces of school uniform, which showed that it was hard to keep them clean by washing them often. The satisfaction level of school uniform was not high, The lowest item was the price. Therefore, to increase the satisfaction level of the school uniforms and also to increase the sanitary level of the school uniforms, it was advisable to purchase a recycled school uniform at cheaper prices to have an extra set. For a vitalization of the recycled school uniforms, the middle school technology/home economy subjects were reviewed. In the topic of "clothing acquisition plan and purchase", the themes of planned purchase, overconsumption of clothing and environmental pollution were discussed and included preferable behaviors for disposal. The topic of "clothing manufacturing and recycling" listed recycling the clothes that are not worn or exchanging them with neighbors as well as suggesting methods to illicit environment-friendly behaviors and carrying them out. However, some textbooks only briefly explained the methods of recycling and more detailed and practical methods need to be suggested in the curriculum. In addition, the contents regarding the environment in the clothing topic need to be supplemented more and more changes, such as related education plans or data development, are required.
