Analytical Asymptotic Solutions for Rectangular Laminated Composite Plates

  • An analytical solution for rectangular laminated composite plates was obtained via a formal asymptotic method. From threedimensional static equilibrium equations, the microscopic one-dimensional and macroscopic two-dimensional equations were systematically derived by scaling of the thickness coordinate with respect to the characteristic length of the plate. The onedimensional through-the-thickness analysis was performed by applying a standard finite element method. The derived twodimensional plate equations, which take the form of recursive equations, were solved under sinusoidal loading with simplysupported boundary conditions. To demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the present method, various types of composite plates were studied, such as cross-ply, anti-symmetric angle-ply and sandwich plates. The results obtained were compared to those of the classical laminated plate theory, the first-order shear deformation theory and the three-dimensional elasticity. In the present analysis, the characteristic length of each composite was dependent upon the layup configurations, which affected the convergence rate of the method. The results shown herein are promising that it can serve as an efficient tool for the analysis and design of laminated composite plates.

Development of an Arc Segmentation Technique Based on Line Segment Expansion from Simple Drawing (단순한 도면으로부터 선분 확장을 이용한 아크 분할 기법 개발)

  • This paper presents a new arc segmentation method which extracts curves from simple drawing consisted of straight lines and curves and segments them into circular arcs. First, it finds center points and finds line segments and curve segments by tracing connected center points. Next, it expands the segment by searching neighbor segment at the two endpoints. Next, it removes straight lines and segments the extracted curves into circular arcs by using the recursive subdivision method. The proposed method has been compared with previous vectorization software and vector based arc segmentation method. Experimental results show that the proposed method produces more correct results for the curves which contain intersection with other lines or curves.

Efficient Solving Methods Exploiting Sparsity of Matrix in Real-Time Multibody Dynamic Simulation with Relative Coordinate Formulation

  • In this paper, new methods for efficiently solving linear acceleration equations of multibody dynamic simulation exploiting sparsity for real-time simulation are presented. The coefficient matrix of the equations tends to have a large number of zero entries according to the relative joint coordinate numbering. By adequate joint coordinate numbering, the matrix has minimum off-diagonal terms and a block pattern of non-zero entries and can be solved efficiently. The proposed methods, using sparse Cholesky method and recursive block mass matrix method, take advantages of both the special structure and the sparsity of the coefficient matrix to reduce computation time. The first method solves the η$\times$η sparse coefficient matrix for the accelerations, where η denotes the number of relative coordinates. In the second method, for vehicle dynamic simulation, simple manipulations bring the original problem of dimension η$\times$η to an equivalent problem of dimension 6$\times$6 to be solved for the accelerations of a vehicle chassis. For vehicle dynamic simulation, the proposed solution methods are proved to be more efficient than the classical approaches using reduced Lagrangian multiplier method. With the methods computation time for real-time vehicle dynamic simulation can be reduced up to 14 per cent compared to the classical approach.

Stochastic Error Compensation Method for RDOA Based Target Localization in Sensor Network (통계적 오차보상 기법을 이용한 센서 네트워크에서의 RDOA 측정치 기반의 표적측위)

  • A recursive linear stochastic error compensation algorithm is newly proposed for target localization in sensor network which provides range difference of arrival(RDOA) measurements. Target localization with RDOA is a well-known nonlinear estimation problem. Since it can not solve with a closed-form solution, the numerical methods sensitive to initial guess are often used before. As an alternative solution, a pseudo-linear estimation scheme has been used but the auto-correlation of measurement noise still causes unacceptable estimation errors under low SNR conditions. To overcome these problems, a stochastic error compensation method is applied for the target localization problem under the assumption that a priori stochastic information of RDOA measurement noise is available. Apart from the existing methods, the proposed linear target localization scheme can recursively compute the target position estimate which converges to true position in probability. In addition, it is remarked that the suggested algorithm has a structural reconciliation with the existing one such as linear correction least squares(LCLS) estimator. Through the computer simulations, it is demonstrated that the proposed method shows better performance than the LCLS method and guarantees fast and reliable convergence characteristic compared to the nonlinear method.

  • This paper describes a new method of calculating expected energy generation and loss of load probability (L.O.L.P) for electric power system operation and expansion planning. The method represents an equivalent load duration curve (E.L.D.C) as a mixture of cumulants approximation (M.O.C.A), which is the general case of mixture of normals approximation (M.O.N.A). By regarding a load distribution as many normal distributions-rather than one normal distribution-and representing each of them in terms of Gram-Charller expansion, we could improve the accuracy of results. We developed an algorithm which automatically determines the number of distribution and demarcation points. In modelling of a supply system, we made subsets of generators according to the number of generator outage: since the calculation of each subset's moment needs to be processed rapidly, we futher developed specific recursive formulae. The method is applied to the test systems and the results are compared with those of cumulant, M.O.N.A and Booth-Baleriaux method. It is verified that the M.O.C.A method is faster and more accurate than any other methods.

  • Estimating the mutual time delay between two acoustic sensors is used in various fields such as tracking and estimating the location of a target in room acoustics and sonar. In the time delay estimation methods, there are a non-parametric method, such as Generalized Cross Correlation (GCC), and a parametric method based on system identification. In this paper, we propose a time delay estimation method based on the parametric method. In particular, we propose a method that considers the noise in each receiving acoustic sensor. Simulation confirms that the proposed algorithm is superior to the existing generalized cross-correlation and adaptive eigenvalue analysis methods in white noise and reverberation environments.

Nonlinear System Modeling Using Genetic Algorithm and FCM-basd Fuzzy System (유전알고리즘과 FCM 기반 퍼지 시스템을 이용한 비선형 시스템 모델링)

  • In this paper, the scheme of an efficient fuzzy rule generation and fuzzy system construction using GA(genetic algorithm) and FCM(fuzzy c-means) clustering algorithm is proposed for TSK(Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) type fuzzy system. In the structure identification, input data is transformed by PCA(Principal Component Analysis) to reduce the correlation among input data components. And then, a set fuzzy rules are generated for a given criterion by FCM clustering algorithm . In the parameter identification premise parameters are optimally searched by GA. On the other hand, the consequent parameters are estimated by RLSE(Recursive Least Square Estimate) to reduce the search space. From this one can systematically obtain the valid number of fuzzy rules which shows satisfying performance for the given problem. Finally, we applied the proposed method to the Box-Jenkins data and rice taste data modeling problems and obtained a better performance than previous works.

  • This paper describes the technique for Radar Particle filter for TBD(Track Before Detect) processing. TBD technique is applied when target is difficult to detect due to low signal-to-noise ratio caused by strong clutter environments, small RCS targets and stealth targets. Particle filter is suitable for a recursive TBD algorithm and has improved estimation accuracy than Kalman filter. In this paper, we will present a new method of calculating particle weight, when observation values(including strong clutter) are received at the same time. Estimation error performance of the particle filter algorithm is analyzed by using the virtual radar observation scenario.

Distance Measurement of the Multi Moving Objects using Parallel Stereo Camera in the Video Monitoring System (영상감시 시스템에서 평행식 스테레오 카메라를 이용한 다중 이동물체의 거리측정)

  • In this paper, a new algorithm for the segmentation of the multi moving objects at the 3 dimension space and the method of measuring the distance from the camera to the moving object by using stereo video monitoring system is proposed. It get the input image of left and right from the stereo video monitoring system, and the area of the multi moving objects segmented by using adaptive threshold and PRA(pixel recursive algorithm). Each of the object segmented by window mask, then each coordinate value and stereo disparity of the multi moving objects obtained from the window masks. The distance of the multi moving objects can be calculated by this disparity, the feature of the stereo vision system and the trigonometric function. From the experimental results, the error rate of a distance measurement be existed within 7.28%, therefore, in case of implementation the proposed algorithm, the stereo security system, the automatic moving robot system and the stereo remote control system will be applied practical application.

  • Due to the merits that only a small amount of computation is needed for solutions and stochastic policies can be handled explicitly, the actor-critic algorithm, which is a class of reinforcement learning methods, has recently attracted a lot of interests in the area of artificial intelligence. The actor-critic network composes of tile actor network for selecting control inputs and the critic network for estimating value functions, and in its training stage, the actor and critic networks take the strategy, of changing their parameters adaptively in order to select excellent control inputs and yield accurate approximation for value functions as fast as possible. In this paper, we consider a new actor-critic algorithm employing an RLS(Recursive Least Square) method for critic learning, and policy gradients for actor learning. The applicability of the considered algorithm is illustrated with experiments on the two linked robot arm.
