  • In this paper, a proposed approach to improve the power factor of three-phase rectifiers and to stabilize the output voltage against load change is presented. The elements of the given control strategy are small size, low cost, high performance, and simplicity. The proposed control strategy of switches is based on a prototype of three bi-directional switched consisting of four diodes and one IGBT. A control technique and operational procedure are also developed, both theoretically and experimentally. The experimental results clearly verify the theoretical analysis from the prototype connected to grid unity.

  • A pulse width modulation(PWM) method for single-phase Sepic-type rectifier is introduced in this paper. The characteristics of the proposed PWM system are high performance high power factor with low input current harmonic distortion. The proposed control method is based on the average-current-mode using the dedicated integrated circuit UC3854 this technique it is possible to implement a very simple control circuit for unitary power-factor in CCM operation and also to provide over-current protection.

  • This paper deals with a new and improved control technique for shunt active filters (AF) used for compensating unwanted harmonic currents injected in the mains due to nonlinear varying loads. This work is motivated by the need to find a permanent solution to the rigorous hit and trial method for evaluating system parameters in an indirect control of AF. A fuzzy pre-compensated PI (Proportional-Integral) controller is used to fuzzify the reference DC voltage of AF to the controller input so that the overshoots and undershoots in its DC link voltage are minimized and the settling time is improved. A three-phase diode rectifier with R-L (Resistive-Inductive) load is used as a non-linear load to study the effectiveness of the proposed controller of the AF. Robustness to filter parameter variations, insensitivity to controller parameter variations, and transient response has been taken as performance evaluation parameters. The results are shown through simulations in Matlab using power system block sets to demonstrate the capability of the proposed controller of the AF.

  • This paper presents a new space vector modulation (SVM) method for indirect matrix converters (IMCs) to reduce commonmode voltage as well as minimize output current ripple in a high voltage transfer ratio. In the proposed SVM, the three-vector modulation scheme is used in the rectifier stage, while the nonzero state modulation technique, where the three nearest active vectors are selected to synthesize the desired output voltage, is applied to inverter stage to reduce the CMV. The proposed SVM method can significantly reduce the output current ripple and common-mode voltage of the IMC without any extra hardware. Simulated results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SVM method.

  • This paper proposes a model predictive control based on the discrete Lyapunov function to improve the performance of power electronic converters. The proposed control technique, based on the finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC), defines a cost function for the control law which is determined under the Lyapunov stability theorem with a control error compensation. The steady state and dynamic performance of the proposed control strategy has been tested under a single phase AC/DC voltage source rectifier (S-VSR). Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed control strategy not only offers global stability and good robustness but also leads to a high quality sinusoidal current with a reasonably low total harmonic distortion (THD) and a fast dynamic response under linear loads.

  • This study applies the selective harmonic elimination (SHE) technique to design and operate a regulated AC/DC/AC power supply suitable for maritime military applications and underground trains. The input is a single 50/60 Hz AC voltage, and the output is a 400 Hz regulated voltage. The switching angles for a multi-level inverter and transformer turns ratio are determined to operate with special connected transformers with equal power ratings and produce an almost sinusoidal current. As a result of its capability of directly controlling harmonics, the SHE technique is applicable to apparatus with congenital immunity to specific harmonics, such as series-connected transformers, which are specially designed to equally share the total load power. In the present work, a single-phase 50/60 Hz input source is rectified via a semi-controlled bridge rectifier to control DC voltage levels and thereby regulate the output load voltage at a constant level. The DC-rectified voltage then supplies six single-phase quazi-square H-bridge inverters, each of which supplies the primary of a single-phase transformer. The secondaries of the six transformers are connected in series. Through off-line calculation, the switching angles of the six inverters and the turns ratios of the six transformers are designed to ensure equal power distribution for the transformers. The SHE technique is also employed to eliminate the higher-order harmonics of the output voltage. A digital implementation is carried out to determine the switching angles. Theoretical results are demonstrated, and a scaled-down experimental 600 VA prototype is built to verify the validity of the proposed system.

  • In this paper a low-voltage vibration energy harvesting circuit with MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) control is proposed. By employing bulk-driven technique, the minimum operating voltage of the proposed circuit is as low as 0.8V. The designed MPPT control circuit traces the maximum power point by periodically sampling the open circuit voltage of a full-wave rectifier circuit connected to the piezoelectric device output and delivers the maximum available power to load. The proposed circuit is designed using a $0.35{\mu}m\;CMOS$ process, and the chip area including pads is $1.33mm{\times}1.31mm$. Simulation results show that the maximum power efficiency of the designed circuit is 85.49%.

  • In this paper, a deadbeat controller design technique is developed for the recently introduced PFC(Power Factor Correction) circuit named as a QBSRR(Quantum Boost Series Resonant Rectifier) to achieve the fast dynamic responses of the output voltage in the presense of any load variations. And, in order to monitor the load information without employing the current sensor, the load estimation method is also derived. By using the information of the load estimation method, the proposed controller gain is automatically adjusted to have the system always keep the very fast dynamic responses. To verify these superior performances, the simulation and the experiment are carried out.

  • In this study, we define the measuring method of crank angle precisely using an event and perform a study on the hardware structure and software algorithms which is applicable for the commercial engine. Also we developed a Computer-ECU(Personal computer based electronic control unit) using a computer and a microprocessor, for performing the ignition at a desire position(angle) and for controlling a duty ratio a pulse for ISC(Idle speed control). We applied these algorithms to the modeling which is induced a concept of event and got a better result than a conventional ECU in the state of transient as a result of performing air fuel ratio control in a commercial engine. This technique can be used for the back to improve ECU performance. It the present type of Hybrid I. C voltage regulator is altered to the new type of regulator, we will be surely able to reduce the production cost as well as simplify the design of alternator\`s rear bracket and rectifier part because of the removal of trio diode.
