  • As a method of measure the absorbing characteristics of microwave absorber, the various microwave measuring method can be used fundamentally. There is, however, a big problem in measuring errors, since the wavelength of microwave such as used for radar is very short. Therefore, this research aimed to design and fabricate a converting adaptor of $20mm^{\phi}$ coaxial tube from a Type-N connector to $20mm^{\phi}$ coaxial tube and to use it for evaluating absorption characteristics of microwave absorber. Furthermore, the measurements of absorbing characteristics and material constants have been performed and review, which were carried out by using the coaxial tube and by using rectangular waveguide, respective. As a result, the validity of the proposed measuring method has been confirmed.

  • In this paper, a numerical analysis algorithm of eddy current testing(ECT) for heat exchanger tube with axi-symmetric defects using finite element method(FEM) is presented. In the ECT FEM analysis, we used trianglular and rectangular elements for exact signal of ECT for variable shape of defects. This paper presents a systematic and efficient numerical analysis algorithm for ECT. We employ the LU decomposition and Cholesky method for solving the system matrix. This numerical analysis algorithm is effectively applied to heat exchanger tube with defects.

  • Fiber reinforced composite materials have outstanding specific strength and specific stiffness. So the use of composite materials increases in various kinds of industrial fields including sports goods such as bicycles. Composite materials are used to make structural parts with various kinds of shapes. Specially, rectangular composite tubes are used to make a few of composite bicycle frames, but there has been a few of research on this issue. Rectangular composite tubes are designed to have appropriate radius of curvature and endure bending and torsional loads. In this research, nine kinds of rectangular composite tubes having aspect ratios 1:1, 1:1.5, 1:2 and radius of curvatures R5, R10, R15 were fabricated. The carbon fiber reinforced composite material was used to make tubes having same cross sectional areas. The stacking sequence of tubes is $[0/90/{\pm}45]s$. Experimental evaluation was accomplished to apply bending and torsional load to the tubes. Experimental results show that bending and torsional characteristics depend on radius of curvature and aspect ratio of rectangular composite tubes.

  • The flow velocity distribution at inlet and exit of Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF) by fabricating L-shape connector with the DPF was measured using a Pitot-tube and 2-D transverse machine. An adaptor designed for making the Pitot tube probe access to the inlet and exit of the DPF was connected with the inlet and exit flange of the DPF, respectively. The Pitot tube which was mounted in the 2-D positioning machine could access to the inlet and exit of the DPF through the rectangular window of the adaptor. The L-shape connector in the DPF inlet has a flow guide which is a perforated steel pipe. The flow velocity distribution at the inlet of the DPF showed a chaotic velocity distribution which is different from that with a diffuser type connector. The velocity distribution at the exit of the DPF showed a crown shape which is similar to that of the diffuser type connector. The velocity distribution at the exit of DPF showed different patterns according to the air flow rate.

  • A heat transfer analysis for the two-dimensional (2-D) steady state using finite difference method (FDM) is performed to predict the thermal behavior of the primary first-wall (FW) system of fusion reactor under various geometric and thermo-hydraulic conditions, such as the beryllium (Be) armor thickness, pitch of cooling tube, and coolant velocity. The FW consists of authentic steel (type 316 stainless steel solution annealed) for cooling tubes, Cu for cooling tubes embedding material, and Be for a protective armor, based on the International Thermonuclear Experiment Reactor (ITER) report. The present 2-D analysis, the control volume discretized with hybrid grid (rectangular grid and polar grid) and Gauss-Seidel iteration method are adapted to solve the governing equations. In the present study, geometric and thermo-hydraulic parameters are optimized with consideration of several limitations. Consequently, it is suggested that the adequate pitch of cooling tube is 22-32mm, the beryllium armor thickness is 10-12mm, and that the coolant velocity is 4.5m/s-6m/s for $100^{\circ}C$ of inlet coolant temperature. The cooling tube should locate near beryllium armor. But, it would be better for locating the center of Cu wall, considering problems of material and manufacturing. Also, 2-D analysis neglecting the axial temperature distribution of cooling tube is appropriate, regarding the discretization error in axial direction.

  • The flow velocity distribution at inlet and exit of a DPF was measured using a Pitot tube and 2-D positioning equipment. An adaptor which was designed for accessing the Pitot tube probe into inlet of the DPF was fabricated with inlet flange of the DPF. The Pitot tube which was mounted in the 2-D positioning machine could access to the inlet of the DPF through the rectangular window of the adaptor. Automation of the velocity measurement at the inlet and exit of the DPF was effectively achieved and measuring time was reduced drastically. The flow velocity distribution at the inlet of the DPF showed parabola shape with maximum velocity near to the center of the DPF, as expected. The velocity distribution at the exit of the DPF showed crown shape, that is, the flow velocity distribution near to the center of the DPF is lower than that at surrounded peripheral region of the DPF.

  • Pure torsion loading conditions were not frequently occurred in practical engineering, but the torsional researches were important since it's the basis of mechanical property researches under complex loading. Then a 3D finite element model with precise material constitutive models was established, and the effectiveness was verified with test data. Parametric studies with varying factors as steel yield strength, concrete strength and sectional height-width ratio, were performed. Internal stress state and the interaction effect between encased steel tube and the core concrete were analyzed. Results indicated that due to the confinement effect between steel tube and core concrete, the torsional strength of CFT columns was greatly improved comparing to plain concrete columns. The steel ratio would greatly influence the torque share between the steel tube and the core concrete. Then the torsional strength calculation formulas for core concrete and the whole CFT column were proposed. The proposed formula could be simpler and easier to use with guaranteed accuracy. Related design codes were more conservative than the proposed formula, but the proposed formula presented more satisfactory agreement with experimental results.

  • The local heat transfer and total pressure drops of developed turbulent flows in the ribbed rectangular convergent/divergent channels with ${\Lambda}/V-shaped$ ribs have been investigated experimentally. The channels have the exit hydraulic diameter ($D_{ho}$) to inlet hydraulic diameter ($D_{hi}$) ratios of 0.67 for convergence and 1.49 for divergence, respectively. The ${\Lambda}/V-shaped$ ribs with three different flow attack angles of $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $60^{\circ}$ are manufactured with a fixed rib height (e) of 10 mm and the ratio of rib spacing (S) to height (e) of 10 on the walls. Thermal performances of the ribbed rectangular convergent/divergent channels are compared with the smooth straight tube under identical pumping power. The results show that the flow attack angle of $45^{\circ}$ with ${\Lambda}-shaped$ rib has the greatest thermal performance at all the Reynolds numbers studied in the convergent channel; whereas, the flow attack angle of $60^{\circ}$ with V-shaped rib has the greatest thermal performance over Reynolds number of 30,000 in the divergent channel.

  • Three-dimensional structures of unsteady detonation wave propagating through a square-shaped tube is studied using computational method and parallel processing. Inviscid fluid dynamics equations coupled with variable-${\gamma}$ formulation and simplified one-step Arrhenius chemical reaction model were analysed by a MUSCL-type TVD scheme and four stage Runge-Kutta time integration. Results in three dimension show the two unsteady detonation wave propagating mode, the Rectangular and diagonal mode of detonation wave instabilities. Two different modes of instability showed the same cell length but different cell width and the geometric similarities in smoked-foil record.
