  • The pure crystalline $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ powder has been prepared by a simple solid state reaction of $Li_2CO_3$ and $V_2O_3$ precursors under nitrogen gas containing 10 mol % hydrogen gas flow. The structure of $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ powder was analyzed using Xray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The stoichiometric $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ powder was used as anode active material for lithium secondary batteries. Its electrochemical properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and constant current methods using lithium foil electrode. The observed specific discharge capacity and charge capacity were 360 mAh/g and 260 mAh/g during the first cycle, respectively. In addition, the cyclic efficiency of this cell was 72.2% in the first cycle. The specific capacity of $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ anode rapidly declines as the current rate increases and retains only 30 % of the capacity of 0.1C rate at 1C rate. The crystallinity of the $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ anode decrease as discharge reaction proceeds. However, the relative intensity of main peaks was almost recovered when the cell was charged up to 1.5 V.

  • As the meaning of dictionary terminology, scum refers to a layer of impurities that accumulates at the surface of a liquid. In papermaking process, scum indicates the floated solid waste generated by a flotation process during the primary wastewater treatment. In this study, different kinds of stocks and scums collected from newspaper, liner, tissue and fine paper were analysed in details. The purpose of this study was firstly to demonstrate the composition characteristics of different sources of scum, secondly the analysis of environmental hazardous materials, and thirdly the evaluation of reutilization ability of fibrous materials from collected scum. As mentioned the meaning of solid waste, scum was actually differ from the waste sludge in sources, compositions and recycling abilities. In the same manner of waste paper, the sludge which is generated within onsite of papermaking processes would be reused as a raw material. The general compositions of scum from waste water were mainly inorganic ash materials, fine fibre fractions, recycled fibre debries, and ink particles. If the scum is able to reuse as fibrous additives in papermaking process, it could contribute to the savings of running costs in both the subsidiaries of fibrous material and the solid waste treatment with even small quantity.

  • In order to provide the mechanism of nozzle clogging, recovered nozzles for high strength steel grade were examined carefully after continuous casting. The thickness of clogged material in SEN is increased in the following order: from the bottom to the top of the nozzle, upper part of slag line, and the pouring hole. Nozzle clogging material begins to form due the adhesion of metal to nozzle wall, the decarburization, and reduction of oxide in the refractory by Al and Ti in the melt. The reduction of oxide in the refractory by Al and Ti improves the wettability of the melt on the refractory and forms a thin Al-Ti-O layer. Metal containing micro alumina inclusions is solidified on the Al-Ti-O layer, and the solid layer grows due to the heat evolution through the nozzle wall. Thermodynamic calculation has been made for the related reactions. The effect of superheat to the nozzle clogging is discussed on ultra low carbon steel and low carbon steel.

  • It is commonly known that water repellency of the fabric treated with fluorocarbon resin brings about a decrease by the washing and recovers by the subsequent heat treatment. In this article, effect of the water repellency was investigated on the nylon 6, triacetate and silk fabrics treated with hydrocarbon and silicon resins. Hydrocarbon and silicon resins have been widely used in the textile finishing as the softening and water proofing agents. The fabrics were treated with hydrocarbon resins, Paragium JQ and RC (Ohara Paragium Chemical Co.) and a silicon resin, Poron MR (Shinetsu Chemical Co.), and then washed and subsequently heat treated. Although the water repellency increased by the resin treatment, it decreased by the washing apparently and recovered a little by the heat treatment. The effect of the heat treatment was small comparing with that of the fluorocarbon resin. Furthermore, as a mechanical property of the treated fabric, KES shearing and bending hysteresis parameters, modulus and hysteresis width of the hydrocarbon resin-treated nylon 6, triacetate and silk fabrics decreased by the heat treatment after washing. Therefore, the treatment is effective at improving the softening of the fabric in water repellent finish.

  • $SrBi_2Ta_2O_9$ thin films were etched in $Cl_2/CF_4/Ar$ inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The maximum etch rate was 1300 ${\AA}/min$ at 900 W ICP power in Cl$_2$(20%)/$CF_4$(20%)/Ar(60%). As RF source power increased, radicals (F, Cl) and ion ($Ar^+$) increased. The influence of plasma induced damage during etching process was investigated in terms of P-E hysteresis loops, chemical states on the surface, surface morphology and phase of X-ray diffraction. The chemical states on the etched surface were investigated with X-ray spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry. After annealing $700^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in $O_2$ atmosphere, the decreased P-E hysteresises of the etched SBT thin films in Ar and $Cl_2/CF_4/Ar$ plasma were recovered.

  • The barium strontium titannate ((Ba,Sr)TiO$_3$:BST) thin films were etched in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) as a function of CF$_4$/Ar gas mixing ratio. Under CF$_4$(20%)/Ar(80%), the maximum etch rate of the BST films was 400 $\AA$/min. Etching products were redeposited on the surface of BST and then the nature of crystallinity were varied. Therefore, we investigated the etched surface of BST by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The plasma damages were evaluated in terms of leakage current density by Agilent 4145C and dielectric constant by HP 4192 impedance analyzer. After the BST thin films exposed in the plasma, the leakage current density and roughness increases. After annealing at 600 $^{\circ}C$ for 10 min in $O_2$ ambient, the leakage current density, roughness and nonvolatile etch byproducts reduced. From this results, the plasma induced damages were recovered by annealing process owing to the relaxation of lattice mismatches by Ar ions and the desorption of metal fluorides in high temperature.

  • In this paper we investigated the characteristics of surface degradation in silicone rubber due to corona exposure and recovery mechanism. It was shown that surface free energy was 22.42 mJ/$m^2$ on initial sample but surface free energy was approximately increased to 71.14 mJ/$m^2$ after 45 minutes. However, surface free energy on silicone rubber after corona discharge treatment was completely recovered within a short time due to diffusion of low molecular weight(LMW) silicone fluid. It was shown that corona discharge insured the increase of diffusible LMW chains, which could lead to recover the surface hydrophobicity. 200~370 g/mol distribution of LMW silicone fluid which was extracted by solvent-extraction with gel permeation chromatography (GPC) was contributed to recovery. The surface degradation characteristics on silicone rubbers and the recovery mechanism based on our results were discussed.

  • This paper presents a theory related to a two-dimensional linear cross-sectional analysis, recovery relationship and a one-dimensional nonlinear beam analysis for composite wing structure with initial twist. Using VABS including a related theory, the design process of the composite rotor blade has been described. Cross-sectional analysis was performed at cutting point including all the details of geometry and material. Stiffness matrix and mass matrix were linked to each section to make 1D beam model. The 3D strain distributions within the structure were recovered based on the global behavior of the 1D beam analysis and visualize numerical results.

  • Clean Technology goes beyond Clean-UP (or "End of PiPe) Technologies to include Pollution prevention, waste minimisation, and cleaner production. However, the concept of Clean Technology goes deeper than changes in technology, to ways in which human needs can be satisfied sustainably. In other words, Clean Technology, concentrates on delivering a human benefit rather than making a product. Introducing cleaner technology may therefore involve new commercial relationships as well as new technological practices. In some economic sectors, this involves leasing or providing a service rather than selling a product. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an important tool in Clean Technology. LCA involves determining all the resources used and all the wastes and emissions produced in providing the human benefit. Use of LCA ensures that improved environmental performance in one part of the Life Cycle is not achieved merely at the expense of more environmental damage elsewhere. Going beyond LCA, the concepts of Life Cycle Design and "metabolised" use of materials are approaches to obtain maximum benefit from materials as they pass through the human economy. "Closed-loop" use can be a component of clean technology. Looking beyond simple re-use and recycling, a material may pass through a "cascade of uses". typically a series of applications with progressively lower performance specifications. Closed-loop use necessarily involves a change in commercial practice, because the material or product must be recovered after use.

  • The critical current degradation behaviors of multifilamentary Bi-2223 superconducting tapes under pressurized liquid nitrogen were investigated using a r-shaped sample holder which gives a series of bending strains to tape. Three kinds of externally-reinforced Bi-2223 tapes with different hermeticity were used as samples. The tape with the thicker reinforcement layer had a better bending strain tolerance of $I_c$, but when the bending strain was calculated at the outermost filament, the $I_c$ degradation behavior became identical. For all samples, $I_{c0}$ decreased with the increase of applied pressure, but the $I_c$ degradation behavior with bending strain at each pressure level was similar. Furthermore, after depressurization from 1 MPa to atmospheric pressure, $I_c$ was completely recovered to its initial values. When the samples were warmed up to room temperature after pressurization tests, the ballooning damage occurred at lower bending strain regions. The region where ballooning was observed was identical to the one where the significant $I_c$ degradation occurred.
